it's like the people who buy music in December is completely different from the one buying music the rest of the year :D
Yea by far the worst album chart this year... I wouldn't listen to any of the albums in top ten even if I was forced to. Tried Lewis Capaldi but it was just no. Why on earth people choose to buy Bublé's album year after year just baffles me.

The albums top 10 looks like a sausage fest in that update.

You're right though, and actually the Top 13 albums are all by male artists. In fact there are only two females in the entire Top 20 albums! That can't happen often.

It's because of the "crooner" overload... Just look at the artists, there are not any/only a few female acts that try to sell this cheap (Xmas) recycling. The biggest female acts in the industry are true artists :P

Because it's still on sale and only 3m out of a 65m population have purchased it.

It's possibly also doing well on streaming so I'd imagine streaming sales make up a good % of its overall chart sales.

Gaga is a true artist but Lewis is not :D sure 1000% :D

Well let's have a think now. They maybe like his music?

Won't be the same people buying it and yes the streaming will play a part too.

It was a joke, hence the :P

But it IS true that there are not any female superstars cashing in with the RPO and cover albums right now.

Ah sorry

Some of the comments here are actually like that so I couldn't tell!

Dont get why everybody hates Lewis Capaldi

For once the Uk has a great singer songwriter that writes great meaningful lyrics

as opposed to others writing about making millions in his Divide tour (Ed) or about eating asparragus (Dave)

Lewis is not as innovative as Billie eilish but

Hes not on the same group as Westlife or Ball/Boe and their karaoke songs

If you wanna use isolated examples then it's easy to flip the script:

Dave - top 40 hit dealing with self-reflection over racial inequity, unity

Lewis - 'wah I'm sad about a break up' set to the most basic/overused chord sequence in all of popular music.

Anyone can be made to look like a hack lyricist with isolated examples.

And a "true artist" is...?

Someone who writes their own music and has a big hand in directing their sound/ image.

Sounds like your describing Lewis Capaldi.

but you didn't use any isolated example, saying "I'm sad" just shows how much attention you've paid to his lyrics

and I used 2 examples cos I didn't wanna write a PhD thesis but I could use any Ed Sheeran song, if you think that he does good songwriting, theres no point discussing with you

It's isolated to the whole song. I can't really make a claim for his entire discography because I don't have the patience or motivation, but his biggest song severely lacks any musical moment or lyrical turn of phrase that strikes me as being inspired. If you get something out of it, that's great but I'm not seeing it. I'm not an Ed Sheeran fan by any stretch but the least I can say is that he's formed his own identity in his music that sounds idiosyncratic and distinctly him (for better or worse). Lewis doesn't seem to expand a personality beyond his social media presence and into his actual music yet.
