"River" by Joni Mitchell is one of those rare songs with a Christmas theme that you can play at any time of the year without sounding out of season. Like "Everybody's Gone to War" by Nerina Pallot.

It's weird how culture affects the song, I find it weird hearing Stay Another Day outside of December now.

Me too. It's so associated with Christmas now. :)

I did not know that.

Yes, we know.

She is actually performing better this year compared to last year if we look at the exact same chart updates. At this stage last year she was entered at #64 compared to #57 this time around and she was the 12th most popular Christmas song then compared to 10th now.

You also have to bare in mind that the main playlist being pushed on Spotify this time around, and its by far the biggest playlist with over 2 million listeners, has Leona as track 83/90 whereas songs like Kelly's are at 13/90 or Justin Bieber at 11/90 or Brenda Lee's at 6/90 and despite that advantage to the other tracks she is still charting higher than them.

And a quick look at Apple Music reveals she is the 6th most streamed Christmas song on there.

Yeah I saw her way down that list. Was one more sleep higher up on the playlist Xmas week? Maybe she’ll reach higher and I’m being impatient. Good to read she is doing better than last year. Thanks for the info.

lol Nerina's Everybodys gone to War is not a Xmas song at all, not in a million years,

just become randomly uses the word Xmas once in a completely different context doesn't make it a xmas song

she says "he'll be dead by xmas" but could have said "dead by December"

A bit like saying Lover by Taylor Swift is a Christmas track.

Liam will be so lucky to debut in Top 10... he's not doing good on iTunes pre-orders, no hit single, nothing is charting on Spotify or playing on radios and also there's no tv promo booked so far for him.

I doubt they will move her higher, they rarely update the Christmas playlists.

This is the three main playlists on Spotify that appear first for UK listeners:

1. Christmas Hits (2.2million)

2. Christmas Pop (1.4million)

3. Christmas Is Coming (850,000)

Compare them to roughly this time last year:

1. Christmas Pop (1.2million)

2. Christmas Hits (852,000)

3. Christmas Is Coming (750,000)

Her playlist positions haven't really changed compared to last year, it is just that the Christmas Pop playlist exploded and has amassed tonnes of followers, the other two have barely grown in comparison. So with that being the main playlist now it will have some sort of impact on One More Sleep's performance on Spotify, thankfully it's strong performance on iTunes, Amazon, Apple Music etc are still helping it improve on last year at least at this stage.

Both will be beneath Robbie imo.

Would be great to reach another milestone to him - it would be his 5th Christmas album No1 (only The Beatles has more - 7).

But I think it's too early to say: it's just Monday and he hasn't reach the top yet. Let's see on Friday.

Omfg do we HAVE TO HAVE ONE OF THESE EVERY SINGLE YEAR?!

EVERYONE'S GOING TO WAR IS NOT A CHRISTMAS SONG. IT IS A TREATSIE ON MODERN DAY SOCIETY AND THE DESENSITISATION TO THE HORRORS OF WAR VIEWED THROUGH THE LENSE OF A DISTANT CAPITALIST CULTURE FAR REMOVED FROM ANY ILL EFFECTS!!!!!! IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CHRISTMAS EXCEPT FOR ONE WORD, WHICH IS JUST AN ANCHOR POINT FOR TIME, JUST LIKE HEAR THE BELLS OMFG!!!!

Funnily enough, you've also just described "Stop The Calvary".

Meant to ask this on Friday's chart thread but does anyone know why the Bohemian Rhapsody soundtrack seems to have vanished from the top 100 album charts altogether after being in the 20 virtually every week up until about a week ago

Its streaming has been transferred to Queen - Greatest Hits, so the soundtrack now has 0 sales for streaming. It fell from #19 to #199!

I see Rod Stewart Christmas has reentered the top 50 in the mids, wonder if it's together with his new effort in the shops?

I saw the Bo Rhap soundtrack actually climbed the sales chart but obviously it wasn't enough to make up for the absence of streams.

The only bit I don't understand is why the streams weren't transferred to Platinum Collection when that's their highest compilation on pure sales?

Why did they do that then? Is it a rule that after so long they transfer or did they make a mistake when it first charted?

What a great seasonal track that is 😜

Yes it would be odd too to hear that too say in the summer but it wasn't originally intended as a Christmas song.
