What a shitshow. This presidency is drowning in lies.
they have a vested interest in downplaying the seriousness of the situation (as they have downplayed the pandemic in general) so I definitely lean more towards "it's more serious than they're letting on" vs "he's not sick and it's a ploy to gain empathy and/or show that covid is no big deal" (which, if that was the case, he could have stayed safely in the White House w "mild symptoms" and carried on his "duties")

More From CNN

Three sources now say that Trump argued with his doctors on Friday after they told him he needed to be moved to Walter Reed. “He didn’t want to go to the hospital a month before the election,” a Republican close to Trump told me. Two sources said doctors gave Trump an ultimatum: he could go to the hospital while he could still walk, or doctors would be forced to take him in a wheelchair or on a stretcher at a later point if his health deteriorated. “They told him, ‘You can go now or we’re taking you later and it’s non negotiable,’” a second source close to the White House said. Trump waited to leave for the hospital until the stock market closed on Friday, a source said.

After spending months denying the dangers of COVID-19, Trump is expressing an emotion aides have rarely seen: fear. On Friday, Trump grew visibly anxious as his fever spiked to 103 fahrenheit and he was administered oxygen at the White House, according to three Republicans close to the White House. Two sources told me Trump experienced heart palpitations on Friday night—possible side effects of the experimental antibody treatment he received. Trump has wondered aloud if he could defeat the disease. “Am I going out like Stan Chera?” Trump has asked aides, referring to his friend, New York real-estate developer Stan Chera, who died of COVID in April.

On Saturday, two sources said Trump was feeling better. But it is difficult to assess the information given the White House's history of lying. According to a source, Chief of Staff Mark Meadows has told Republicans that the next few days will be critical to determine the virus’s outcome. “Meadows has said if Trump can get out of the hospital by Tuesday, then he’s gone through the worst of it. But if he’s still there after Tuesday, the worst is yet to come,” the source told me.

I'd an idea he wouldn't have calmly gone to hospital without a fight as he hates hospitals and treatment.

Sounds like he's not out of the woods yet then.

Hope you have enough sleeping pills for this week Chris.
I’d have felt worse if Trump hadn’t brought this on himself by totally ignoring facts, logic and common sense regarding the virus.

Chris is one of his aides? That explains a lot.

The longer your in hospital usually the worse it is!

Her on GMB, who's name I've forgotten, has had her husband in 6 months exactly now and still in induced coma.

Yeh I seen someone in NI was in one for 56 days - you’d wonder why they keep them in it that long!?

So they don't die? There have been quite a few cases of people who have been on ventillators for 40-50+ days and made a recovery. Although after beating the virus, the next step is building up muscle mass, as you lose a lot when lying in bed for such a prolonged period of time.

Keeping someone in a coma gives the body a chance to recover while machines take care of some of the vital functions.

Headlines from new NBC/WSJ poll (conducted after the debate, 9/30-10/1)

1. Biden's national lead among registered voters expands from 8pts to 14pts

Biden 53%

Trump 39%

Was Biden 51%, Trump 43% in Sept poll before debate https://twitter.com/mmurraypolitics/status/...1130376192?s=20

What will be more interesting will be the polling after Trump was hospitalised - the debate and his tax returns seem to be a long time ago already!

Something doesn't seem right to me at all. He's done another video and has also been driven around the perimeter of the facility to see his fans and supposedly met soldiers today and lots of other staff too. HELLO. I thought you were supposed to isolate with it. Same clothes in the vid as yesterday. Are we all being told lies? Has he never had it? Very quick recovery after 2 days? Very odd indeed and a lot of puzzled angry people on Twitter tonight.

I doubt it'll change things, although if he ends up having long-term significant side effects (like Boris Johnson who was breathless and quite frail trying to read out a statement when he returned to defend Cummings) it will be apparent in the future debates how less bombastic he performs and therefore starts to lose on the one area where he looked strong relative to Biden, his health.

If Trump loses (and admits losing), what are the chances of him trying to win the Republican nomination in 2024?

I think there's more chance of Ivanka trying for it.
