January 3, 20206 yr Future hit? Ava Max On Somebody 4th single from The Exhibitionist Released: 30th December 2019 Label: Atlantic Records Video DaaS2nYCFxw Biography Channeling the imaginations and aesthetics of forebears like Sia and Lady Gaga, Albanian-American pop singer/songwriter Ava Max delivers empowering, dance-friendly anthems similar to contemporaries such as Bebe Rexha, Sigrid, and Dua Lipa. Emerging in the late 2010s, she appeared on collaborations with Le Youth, Witt Lowry, and David Guetta while also releasing her own singles, including the hit "Sweet But Psycho," which topped the charts in Sweden. Born Amanda Ava Koci in Wisconsin, she was raised by Albanian immigrant parents in Virginia. She started singing at a young age and was already active in singing competitions by the time she reached high school. After moving to Los Angeles to pursue music full-time, she joined local disco revival producer Le Youth on his bright dance track "Clap Your Hands," which became a summer hit in 2017. The next year, she showcased her Sia-esque vocals with debut solo single "My Way" (Atlantic) before following with "Slippin" and "Not Your Barbie Girl," which interpolated Aqua's '90s classic. That year, she also joined rapper Witt Lowry on his track "Into Your Arms" and David Guetta on "Let It Be Me" from his album 7. Koci scored her biggest hit to date that summer with "Sweet But Psycho," an addictive pop gem produced by Cirkut (the Weeknd, Katy Perry, Rihanna). Charting across Europe, it hit number one in Sweden and topped 30 million streams. That fall, she signed with Full Stop Management, home to Charli XCX, Harry Styles, HAIM, and others. - iTunes Top 100 Chart History 2018 01 Sweet But Psycho -1- MILLIONAIRE 2019 13 So Am I -2- 2019 87 Torn -3- 2020 __ On Somebody -4- 1 x #1 | 1 x Top 5 | 1 x Top 10 | 2 x Top 20 | 2 x Top 40 | 3 x Top 100 Social Media Ava Max http://i.imgur.com/1SERq1f.png
January 3, 20206 yr I expected this a tad higher.MIKEY. NEVER CHANGE! (But I'm curious as to why you expected Dua to be higher when the battle has always been Stormzy vs Lewis?) She hasn't released an album, and the nominations are always artists who have that year (or at the end of the previous year). She has released an album!
January 3, 20206 yr That's pretty annoying about Tones & I missing out slightly on a reset. Would much rather see that get another couple weeks at the top than the pretty boring Stormzy track or even worse the Bieber track...
January 3, 20206 yr She has released an album! Well it's an EP, not sure where the Brits stand on that.
January 3, 20206 yr Embarrassing for Lewis to miss out after all that campaigning! :lol:Stormzy was campaigning just as hard though tbf :o
January 3, 20206 yr My thoughts: Well I'm pleased we have Stormzy at #1 this week out of the two contenders, even if it gives Ed Sheeran yet another #1 too, 'Own It' is another great song of his. I quite like 'Before You Go' as well particularly in the new piano version so I'd not mind that making #1 in the near future if the Justin Bieber song ends up underperforming. Although the real #1 this week was clearly 'Dance Monkey', big ugh at it just missing out on getting a reset. Could've given Bieber a real challenge for #1 this week if it had one. Very pleased to see Endor and Jax Jones reach the top 10 this week anyhow, we do love a good January dance hit and having 2 of them is most welcome. Hopefully The Weeknd can manage to make top 10 with 'Blinding Lights' next week too although that may be too much to ask with SYL getting a reset amongst others. 'My Oh My' and 'Falling' are also great rising hits that should also make top 10. 'Gangsta' getting a new peak is also great to see as one of my fave UK rap hits of the moment. Not as keen on the new J Hus track as 'Must Be', and especially not keen on the new DBE one (good to see it falling well short of the top 20). 'River' not even matching the 1-29 drop of 'A Bridge Over You' is quite something too. Definitely not here for Tom Walker re-peaking, let's just hope the track doesn't get any bigger. The Don Toliver track didn't do much for me on a first listen but Roddy Ricch's is great, I fully expect that will eventually go top 10, it's already huge in America.
January 3, 20206 yr MIKEY. NEVER CHANGE! (But I'm curious as to why you expected Dua to be higher when the battle has always been Stormzy vs Lewis?) I was actually refering to Arizona Zervas. I blame Joseph for been too quick to post Dua Lipa :drama:
January 6, 20206 yr Late thoughts ~ I remain not really a fan of 'Own It' but it's at least a hell of a lot better first #1 of the decade than the ones the 00s and 10s had lol. Glad to see it bolstering Stormzy's #1 count even if it's far from his best. Ed already locking in his first #1 of the 20s as well :P 9 of them already, genuinely wonder if he might eventually give Elvis and The Beatles a run for their money. Poor 'Before You Go' it is then that's stuck with (at least) 3 weeks at #2. Would love if we could still see him rise to #1 on the singles and Stormzy to swap over with him on the albums. Jax Jones' consistency in getting January top 10 hits is really quite spooky, I think 3 of the 4 have been in the very first chart of the year as well? :o cool to see that and Endor providing this year's obligatory new year dance hits, I don't love either of them but they're both decent enough. A bit surprised to see Selena sneaking back to the top 10 but not complaining, argh at how close 'Blinding Lights' was though, I hope its chance isn't gone now! Good to see new peaks for Trevor Daniel, Harry Styles 'Watermelon Sugar', Idina Menzel/AURORA, Young T & Bugsey and Darkoo (even if I have already tired of that a little oops) as well, though we really didn't need that Tom Walker song climbing any further. Very solid set of new entries this week imo, it was great to hear the show start out with Roddy Ricch and Don Toliver both just making it in back-to-back, posting some late love for 'No Idea' since it didn't seem to go down well with anyone else here :P I love that song, sounds exactly like Akon doing a Travis Scott song. Then I'm liking the new J Hus song a lot more than 'Must Be' (love the pretty unique blend of brass instrumentation and a drill beat) and 'My Oh My' is maybe my favourite single from the Camila album (or possibly close 2nd to 'Shameless'), which isn't really saying much... but it is a good song. Notably leaving out any comment on D-Block Europe since they didn't actually play it and so I haven't heard it yet, I will give it a begrudging listen soon ~
January 6, 20206 yr Jax Jones' consistency in getting January top 10 hits is really quite spooky, I think 3 of the 4 have been in the very first chart of the year as well? :oThe previous three all entered the top 40 on the first chart of the year. 'You Don't Know Me' climbed in the top 10 the following week, while 'Breathe' and 'Play' both went top 10 in the third chart of the year. (I'd just looked this up myself after noticing the same thing!)
January 6, 20206 yr Ahh ok, that is what I was thinking of then - 'This Is Real' is a top 40 entry this week as well technically as it fell out of the top 40 last week amongst the Christmas spam :magic: but of course it's a re-entry on this occasion.
