Artists will lose a lot of money because of gigs cancelations on the other hand, the prices of physical versions will go down and I hope they will cut the shipping prices to make music more available to the masses.

It's the tour cancellations that I'm most gutted about personally. I've got two gigs lined up next month and I'm pretty sure that both will be cancelled/postponed :(
I really think this will be the end of HMV and other physical music-focused retailers. Golden Discs are the Irish equivalent, in a much better financial position, and they've temporarily closed here. I'd be shocked if HMV has enough liquidity to stay afloat if they've to close their doors.

I'm genuinely so glad I got to go see Embrace even if it wasn't the best gig just because if it had been a few days later it would almost definitely have been cancelled. Caribou will almost definitely be cancelled though which is a shame :(

yeah I bought tickets for gigs this summer and Alanis' concert this Autumn - I hope at least her gig won't be canceled and world will cope with the virus till Autumn
if gigs are postponed instead of just cancelled, it's ok
HMVs only hope is if its business rates are cut completely, that might actually help them out right now as they can make a bit of profit without having to pay huge amounts of business rates. I guess it really depends if we go into full lockdown or not.
A lot of brits stream on the commute to work and their night out playlists. With people being inside all the time, those streams start thinning out. Sunday’s are normally the weakest day of the weak streaming wise so I expect more streams following those levels. Even then, not everyone looks for new music. As that article Bjork posted suggests, expect the top 100 to get more older tracks coming back *waits for Mr Brightside, Perfect and Shotgun to re-enter the top 40*
I predict that a charity single is coming.

I hope The Knack let them use My Sharona

Sorry I know it's dark humour which won't appeal to everyone, and my thoughts are very much with every person and family affected, but I've found myself singing these alterntive lyrics I made up to this song during my last week in self-isolation (precautionary at this stage, due to a cough, no other symptoms and no diagnosis or anything).

I use to sing that "version" as well back in uni days cos one of my flatmates absolutely loved the stuff.

The fizzy drinks that were popular in the 70s and 80s, or the unpleasant Mexican lager that, to make it half palatable, you have to drink through half a lime wedged on the neck of the bottle?

This seems accurate as streaming was down a lot too this week.

You don't need to justify your self-isolation to anyone!

HMV closed as of today so anyone wanting physicals need to order online.

Not a huge shock and I don’t really know what affect it’ll have but we will see over the next few weeks.

Imagine if we were still in the people buying physical cds / albums age though of like

Early 00s and late 90s. Wtf would’ve happened then.

At least we still have charts to be announced now thanks to streaming. One good thing for me

To look forward too each week.
