No I took issue with people criticising 5SOS for donating money to a worthy cause because it *might* stop Dua Lipa from being number 1.

Wanting your favourite to be number 1 is cool, who doesn't want that? Criticising another artist doing a good deed (that I'm sure Dua Lipa would be getting praised for if she was doing it) is just low.

I'm not over or under myself.

those 5-10% will surely change everyone's lives... come on!

it's obvious they want to cash out from all of this and it's fine but let's not pretend they are doing it for altruistic reasons only

At least 5SOS desperation might end up paying for some PPE for NHS workers and maybe save a life. But hey what scum as they might deny Dua Lipa a number 1, let people die as long as Dua gets number 1 hey.

My comment had absolutely nothing to do with Dua Lipa or her album. It is solely to do with the 5SOS's tactic of using the pandemic to bolster sales. That's all. Do not fabricate a narrative, pretend that is what I'm talking about and act like a child. Nobody is interested.

Drama in a thread and me not being at the centre of it is a moment!

I will add my piece and say that I don’t think Dua is underperforming it’s more 5SOS are doing better than expected. I like it when people try and fight for a #1 though it makes things exciting and I for sure like it when I see major effort involved into trying to get a good debut.

Dua moved her release so she’d have probably been easy no competition #1 had it stayed as next week but I always had Dua down as being a slow and steady kind of seller much like how her debut performed. In the long run though she will easily outsell 5SOS. I’m actually gonna say that aside from Adele I think she’ll have the biggest selling female album of the year here in the UK but that will due to do consistently and streaming.

As of yesterday's [Tuesday] midweeks, these were the overall sales for 5 Seconds of Summer and Dua Lipa albums:

5 Seconds of Summer - CALM

19,842 Overall

8,190 Cassette [41.28%]

7,886 CD [39.74%]

1,153 Vinyl [5.81%]

787 Download [3.97%]

1,826 Streaming [9.20%]

Dua Lipa - Future Nostalgia

16,859 Overall

2,848 Cassette [16.89%]

2,177 CD [12.91%]

1,437 Vinyl [8.52%]

3,136 Download [18.60%]

7,261 Streaming [43.07%]

The increase per format from Monday's mids to Tuesday's mids:

5 Seconds of Summer - CALM

+645 Overall

±0 Cassette

+149 CD

+4 Vinyl

+48 Download

+444 Streaming

Dua Lipa - Future Nostalgia

+4,631 Overall

+1,432 Cassette

+724 CD

+290 Vinyl

+238 Download

+1,947 Streaming

Evidently some cassette data was late to be added for Dua (50% of them!). None of her cassettes are available to buy any more, so that figure should remain static, unless there's still missing Dua cassette data to be reported.

On the other hand 5SOS still have four different cassettes available (albeit showing as "more stock coming soon") which explains why they had 0 cassette sales in yesterday's mids. Their CD and Vinyl sales strike me as looking a bit low for yesterday too. Perhaps we'll see a late surge of physical data added for them... but of course Dua should see a big boost in CDs herself, with her £4.99 price + signed card + competitions deal.

It's an exciting battle, but I don't think a surge of physicals for 5SOS would be enough to overcome Dua's very strong streaming!

Are we still waiting on HMV info? Hard to know who that will give an advantage to, I would say 5 Seconds of Summer.

I think Dua deserves No1 simply because she is an artist with the most impact at the moment. I think 5 Seconds are mainly fanbase support at this stage of their career, bar a 1 week top 40 single again on fanbase sales.

Those cassette sales for both (but especially 5SOS) show what an important format/tool it has become in chart battles - a cheap, easily produced format that they can bundle up. The Dua bundle was 3 cassettes and a signed photo for £11.

8000 cassettes already for 5sos is crazy!!! even if it's 2000 fans buying 4 cassettes each, that's a lot

but for me that's fair game, the label is not forcing anyone to buy but just putting a lot of different options out there for hardcore fans and collectors

This shows what artists/labels can do with a bit of effort - 5SOS had individual band members on each cassette giving fans a reason to buy an obsolete format rather than just throwing out a big standard cassette.

Regardless of the act I’m just pleased labels are still committed to physical format and see the benefits.

I wonder how many of those cassettes will ever actually get played though. I imagine most of them will just sit on a shelf for decorative purposes.

TBH I’d say 0 along with a lot of vinyls (Not just for 5SOS but in general).

Even CDs are becoming redundant for a lot of fans. I've read more than one comment like "I don't have a CD player but I've bought Dua's CD". Some people don't even have the option to rip the CD to a computer any more because they don't have a CD drive. A lot of fans just like the feeling of owning the album physically, even if they're most likely going to listen to it via streaming platforms.

1 CALM (20,53k)*

2 FUTURE NOSTALGIA (20,33k)*

BYE BYE 5SOS!!!

That includes HMV reports till Tuesday BTW.

With streams missing for Yesterday and she did way more than 200 copies in streaming I'm sure so she's basically number 1 already!

That increase for 5SOS suggests another day of very few physical sales for them. Every format on their official store says "Buy Now: More Stock Coming Soon". They might have achieved a lot of physical sales in the past couple of days that haven't been registered yet.

(Edit: Just double checked and their CD is back in stock, it wasn't earlier this morning)

I'll be gutted if Dua misses with just 5 copies lol :( -_-

5SOS have reacted  :cheer:

Signed Standard CD £4.99

Signed Deluxe CD £6.99

Black Vinyl & Signed Card £18.99

Deluxe Boxset & Signed Card £55

I'll be gutted if Dua misses with just 5 copies lol :( -_-

With around 1500 sales from Streaming yesterday she's already ahead of them.
