But their intent was for chart purposes.

It's like 'If you want us to donate to NHS and save lives then you better buy our CD's and cassettes'

Dear god you do know people are capable of donating to the NHS without buying a CD it isn't the only way of doing it you know

No one is sat at home going I want to donate to the NHS oh I'll buy this CD then. It is the other way round, oh I want this CD oh nice bonus part of my money will go to the NHS.

That's not quite how it was worded to be fair, in fact, it wasn't even publicised massively. All it says is "A PORTION OF THIS SIGNED BUNDLE SALE WILL BE DONATED TO SUPPORT THE NHS CHARITIES COVID-19 APPEAL" in the middle of a pretty lengthy description on each product. They're saying "if you buy this bundle, some of your money will be used to help others" rather than "buy our album or people will DIE!!!", and imo there's a big difference!

Where’s Harry in both singles and album??

Adore You #16, Falling #21, Fine Line #9

Okay mister Patronising.

Everyone understands how percentages work. The timing to use this tactic is shady as hell. Especially as they are not disclosing what exact percentage will be donated. I doubt it's more than 5% in all honesty.

Well they couldn't have timed it until the album was released and now is when the NHS needs the money the most. Again do people even think before posting these things. When on earth did you want them to do it? Last year before the album release, in 6 months when the album is selling 5 copies a week?

I'm sure if Dua was doing the same, then there would be no argument from the vocal posters on here-other than that Dua is such a Queen for helping/ supporting the NHS charity.

Basically people are just p!ssed on here because the lauded Dua is struggling, when it should be an easy win for her. The fact she is reducing formats to 3.99 isn't great in a first week considering how huge she has been and how big a hit her lead in singles have been compared to 5SOS. Who really barring Youngblood haven't had a massive song here for a while (Who Do You Love.... semi hit)

I'd agree that I think there have been double standards in this thread, but I don't think it's fair to say Dua's struggling. She's performing as expected really, considering she's got a wider appeal and is likely the biggest loser of supermarkets not focusing on entertainment / HMV being shut as she can't pick up those casual CD purchases! 5SOS however would have far less of those, so they're comparatively overperforming compared to expectations. That's all it is, Dua's not struggling, and the album's obviously going to be big long-term. All they're doing is trying to secure the cherry on top - a #1 album - and who can blame them?

I know dear it wasn't like that, just exaggerating a bit just as sammy does when he tries to prove his point.

Oh I agree in some respects; however I think this week should have been an easy win for her regardless - and agreed they want her to have a number 1, just like 5SOS' team want them to have a number 1. Its just double standards on here. But then that's the same with alot of releases/ chart battles on here :D Lest we forgot every time the Saturday's released a single until they get a Number 1

i'm bored now can we talk about nicolas jaar and how he's flopping instead

Thank you.

Just because she was behind 5SOS doesn't make her struggle IMO.

And clearly 5SOS were waaaay fronted due to their fanbase bulk buying.

Dua just managed to catch up with them thanks to word of mouth out there and positive reviews = which translated to BIG streaming numbers for her album!!!

nobody in this thread is going to tell me that 5sos + their team care so much about giving to the nhs. they could just.. donate? they could make it all of their songs that they’ll give the proceeds to.. they wouldn’t be baiting their brand new album, in a battle for #1 this very week, as a tool to provide a percentage of only those sales going towards an nhs fund if they actually cared.

tactics like that can affect the charts in an unfair way + then, to some people, makes it less about the artist + more about donating to the nhs. for example: sandra from facebook may not give a toss about 5sos but hears that they’re donating a percentage of the funds to the campaign + wants to help provide more for the nhs. she’ll probably bin the cd + think she’s done good.

it has cheapened their campaign. both acts were fighting fair by offering bundles, signed cards etc but it’s a cheap tactic to pull on the heartstrings in the middle of the week because the gap is closing in - cause that’s all it is.

Oh my god... Do we really need pages and pages of this? People have their opinions and it doesn’t look like you’re going to change them. That’s life. Let’s move on!

This lockdown is getting to us all. We all just need to have a piece of chocolate and chill.

Tbh I'm just gonna say my controversial opinion...

Dua Lipa's album is pretty good.

Even if Dua isn't #1 this week the tone of some of these posts makes it out like it's her only chance. Why does it specifically have to be a #1 debut. Its better if both acts make #1 and obviously 5SOS are realistically only gonna have one shot so let them both have their turn at the top I say.
Well, no. It’s not about ‘having their turn’... they’re not entitled to the #1... neither is she. Whoever sells more this week, sells more... I don’t get all this fuss
Just listened to Dua’s album. It is really good , it will be a consistent stellar for sure.

Well yes I do agree with that standpoint. My point was more drawing on why this particular week is made out to be "do or die" for Dua Lipa. I'm no expert on the Album Chart so have no idea of the upcoming competition but I really can't believe she won't get a week at #1 just randomly in the future on a very low selling week (which I expect there'll be many of due to the current situation).

So it more of a prediction that if 5SOS are indeed #1 this week ultimately they both will be which is all that matters in the history books.
