We could almost call this a United Kingdom for real now. Just not united with the government.

I’ve defended the Government on many occasions during this, but honestly f*** them. I’ll do what I want now.

Cummings must have some serious dirt on Johnson as I can’t see a way they survive this. They’ve got him being in Durham numerous times. Tbh even though it’s annoying Cummings stays I just can’t see how this holds up, the Government have lost all credibility now.

Omg he’s even lost the unhinged bigots in the daily mail comment section

I think he's lost about everyone. I am guessing he must have some serious dirt on the Government. There's no way Boris would go to these lengths even to save a trusted allie. All you can be thankful for is Twitter is glorious and it has thrown the Tory party in to chaos. If you live in a Tory consitituency make sure you email your MP.

It is honestly shameful how they have asked us all to make sacrafices for the greater good, yet Cummings seems to do whatever the hell he wants. Seems like when he inevitably goes down, the PM is going down with him.

Seen some tory journos turning now, even some of the rabid ones like Tim Montgomerie and Hartley-Brewer fuming.

The whole conference was so embarrassing and made me so angry, but also I was in part delighted, because I just can't see it going away and anything that turns this shower of c**ts inside out is welcome.

All they needed to was acknowledge he made a mistake and got him to apologise and it could have all gone away. Instead they've backed themselves into a corner and made them look more and more stupid.

I can only assume they think as the next general election is 4 years away they think they can get away with it.

We've all just been taken for mugs by the Government. Nothing we can do about it, but like you say, this isn't going away.

Early on in this nightmare, I read an article speculating on how different things would have been if this had happened 20 years ago. The main focus of the article was not on who was in power but on the advances in technology in the last two decades. Many of the things we are able to do now would not have been possible in 2000.

My initial thoughts were rather more personal. If it had happened exactly 20 years earlier, my first nephew would have been born about a week into lockdown. Almost two months on, I still wouldn't have been able to see him. My parents still wouldn't have seen their first grandchild. If a senior government figure (Alastair Campbell would be the obvious equivalent) had flouted the rules in the way Cummings has, I would be even more angry than I am now and I'm sure my Labour-supporting Dad would have felt the same.

As the Observer pointed out today, one of the earliest heart-breaking stories was about the 13-year-old boy who died of Covid-19 with none of his family by his side. As other family members showed symptoms, none of them were even able to attend the boy's funeral. Explain yourself to them Johnson and Cummings.

Cummings' actions are shocking and Johnson's defence of him is ridiculous, but I really hope people stay sensible and don't flout the rules as a result of these revelations. We could be in a very similar comfortable position to Germany in a few weeks time if people just follow the rules - Cummings breaking the rules does NOT give anyone an excuse to follow in his footsteps and the people using Cummings to justify having family gatherings are just as bad as him and should be ashamed.

Although this story has now ballooned out of proportion, it is worth recognising that the retired teacher who thought he had spotted Cummings in Barnard Castle on 12 April and noted down the registration plate, has had the registration number confirmed as a match. So we do now know that his car (driven by someone who looks remarkably like Dominic Cummings) was 30 miles away from his 'lockdown residence' before the 14 days self-isolation was over.

This negates the whole very thin and easily punctured 'protecting children' argument that was wheeled out on here (and by government) endlessly over the past 24 hours.

No doubt there will be ANPR data and CCTV footage that confirms this, which is why Boris Johnson WON'T call for an enquiry.

Can't wait for Peacemob to try and explain to us all that it was Larry the Cat just taking his Range Rover out for spin.

There's an article in the Spectator with Cumming's parents where it's pratically implied by them that Cummings was up in Durham to be nearer to his family because his Uncle was dying.

I suppose when childcare doesn’t wash with the public, a dying relative is the next go to.

Such a shame so many people died unable to see anyone because their loved ones were busy following the rules.

The Telegraph and Express are still seemingly sticking by him but the Daily Mail are going in guns blazing :o

‘For the good of the Government, and the nation, Mr Cummings must resign. Or the Prime Minister must sack him. No ifs, no buts.’

To play devil's advocate, I tried to see if there was any way to find a picture of Cummings in the suspected vehicle, just in case someone defending him could be like "that is readily available information on the internet".

"Dominic Cummings Car", "Dominic Cummings Range Rover" and "Dominic Cummings Number Plate" came up with nothing...

But that wasn't allowed either, so the whole family is just digging themselves a bigger hole. I'd have loved to have been able to go and see my parents when my grandad had 48 hours left to live...

Precisely. The stuff being leaked from his side is all an attempt to humanise the story. But it doesn't work as everyone has been made to avoid seeing their friends and family.

Wonder how long it will be until the 1922 committee make some political moves against Boris.

Indeed. That’s why so many of the scientific advisers are so angry about this with several of them going on the record to say so. Once again, Johnson’s bungling could cost many lives.

Pretty easy to conclusively prove where and when he was - just offer up his mobile phone records to public scrutiny. Mobile phone records are used by police to confirm where and when people are.

Cummings and Johnson could volunteer this information by giving the mobile phone company permission to list his locations for that period.

They won't cos he obviously flaunted rules spreading Covid-19 wherever he went.

He was, after all, intent on herd immunity as a goal and clearly was doing his bit to save the economy......
