The books may have started in the late 90s and the films may have finished in the early 2010s but the 2000s was when Harry Potter was at it's peak with book and film releases! It's one of those rare time where you can say it was an actual cultural phenomenon and I remember trying to speed through reading the books to catch up with everyone else at school. I couldn't avoid the ending of the Half Blood Prince however!! The films have also become just as iconic and it's one of the highest grossing franchises in film history.

Share your experiences with Harry Potter and which is your favourite book and film?

I love the books. I picked Goblet of Fire just ahead of Prisoner of Azkaban for that one as 2000 was just peak Potter time fore the books, it was so amazing. Interesting fact: I have never read the standard addition of Prisoner of Azkaban. My cousin worked for Bloomsbury and gave me a proof copy of it at Christmas 1998-6 months before it was officially released!

The films were hard to choose between as well but I ended up going with Deathly Hallows Part 2. Unpopular opinion-Prisoner is the worst of the films.

I'm Goblet of Fire for both - it feels the most consistent throughout and kind of sets the scene for the rest of the series!

Half Blood Prince is definitely the worst for me, it's just fluff until last part. Deathly Hallows is a lot of fun but obviously a distinct move away from the rest of the series, and the films being split into two damages the pace of both.

The first two films feel so separate from the rest of the series but I kind of enjoy the detail they both go into whereas the later ones feel more stripped back in terms of adapting the books?

Prisoner of Azkaban was definitely the best of the books for me, particularly with the Sirius twist! I only watched the first three films then stopped as they were taking away how I imagined the characters to look so I stopped watching, don't think I could give an honesty answer for them so just went for POA again.

I can't fairly judge the books as once they started hitting 400+ pages I would begin reading them and then...not get to the end

But I've gone for "Goblet of Fire" for the movie. It's when the series steps up a gear and the plot of the tournament is amazing

Ugh that scene was nothing compared to how it happened in the book. Such a terrible adaptation.

The Halfblood Prince is definately my favourite book, I was so disapponted by the movie adaption. I was looking forward to that Dumbledore Army fight :(

Goblet of Fire is my favourite movie. The effects, the story, the growth in characters, the entrances of the schools :cheeseblock:

Goblet of Fire is my favourite in both as I think it's that perfect crossover point between the very child friendly and fantastical of the first three books and the darkness of the later three. Plus it has the biggest internal climax with Voldemort returning/Cedric's death (I presume we're fine to have spoilers in here?).

My relationship with Harry Potter is... strange.

I remember the first film I saw at the cinema being Prisoner of Azkaban - it was great and it's still probably my favourite of the films. I then started to work my way through the books - but to this date I think the only ones I've read in full are The Philosopher's Stone and Chamber of Secrets. :kink:

When The Deathly Hallows was released though it was all anybody spoke about at school, and you'd have people going around like 'omg i finished it i know what happens at the end xoxo'.

HEATHEN!

Get ur reading on gurl, they are amazing! I read them all in Dutch but I plan on buying them in English as the Dutch translation is a bit meh.

Part of the magic gets lost, literally, in translation

I’ve read the first one in Welsh but the others haven’t been translated yet :nocheer:
