Good point, the media coverage would definitely help it get more sales over the weekend.

The OCC did a scare-mongering article today too. Basically saying Capt Tom Moore and Michael Ball are gonna lose unless downloads rapidly pick up today. So I imagine people will be sharing that or similar articles today.

Edit: Why have R1 released their Live Lounge single today? Lmao.

makes zero sense to release a charity single midweek, the handful of sales it'll get today could cost it a few chart positions.

although as it's not in aid of the NHS and coming so soon after the Tom Moore one I doubt it would be a #1 contender anyway.

You'd think R1 of all people would realise that it doesn't make sense to release this on a Thursday.
I think they just want it to be out in time for the Big Night In programme this evening, and 12:00 is the time Radio 1 usually do their Live Lounge sessions.
Why does it matter that it's released today? Surely it's the money raised for the charity that's key rather than chart positions and, as coi points out, the Big Night In programme airs this evening.

they could have just put it up for pre order though? would generate more publicity if it was to end up at number one even on midweeks only - just look at Tom Moore this week. though I suppose even if it gets there on itunes only that’ll be a publicity boost.

What a bad song, another example of sampling gone wrong. Let's hope this doesn't rise any higher.

That's what I was thinking, it doesn't really matter if it loses out on a full first week because people will just assume it's #1 and job well done if it is top of the iTunes chart on Sunday, as proved by Tom More.

I would find it extremely amusing if the Stay Home Live Lounge cover was able to stay on top of iTunes through the weekend to become #1 on the rival chart (where Tom Moore got the news coverage of being at number one) - Global’s stations announcing a BBC Radio 1 track as their number one
Global will probably "forget" to add it to their chart as they surely don't wanna give BBC any attention

I guess now they don't use the live iTunes chart anymore, they'd be able to do that as well
