It's wild that this album was the best selling album in USA 1997. Sometimes, one needs a reminder of how huge they were! It's crazy!

I have this album to thank for properly getting me into the girls  this is because my parents owned the CD in their collection, so I listened out of curiosity and it allowed my slight interest in them to properly blossom  hearing tracks from this live last year was a life highlight. My ranking would be:

01. Say You'll Be There

02. If U Can't Dance

03. Who Do You Think You Are

04. Naked

05. 2 Become 1

06. Wannabe

07. Love Thing

08. Last Time Lover

09. Something Kinda Funny

10. Mama

Not a single song I dislike!

01. Who Do You Think You Are?

02. Naked

03. Say You'll Be There

04. If You Can't Dance

05. 2 Become 1

06. Wannabe

07. Love Thing

08. Something Kinda Funny

09. Last Time Lover

10. Mama

Completely iconic!

Buying this album on cassette on 2nd January 1997 in Woolworths, Cardiff (what a specific memory! :kink: ) was a life changing moment tbh *.* I played that tape so often it began to sound a bit warped. :') I struggled for a long time to work out how Victoria was posing like that on the album cover

It's so hard to choose favourite tracks, but I think Who Do You Think You Are has settled as my top choice, closely followed by 2 Become 1 and Say You'll Be There. My favourite album track is Love Thing. Last year's tour gave me a newfound appreciation for If U Can't Dance! Last Time Lover is very underrated and I wish they had performed it back in the 90s.

Totally iconic and the album that provided a strong staple of what a contemporary girl band could be: fun, modern, excellent music!

My only cripes about this album is the lack of a delux edition with a few more tracks on it. WILD that an album that sold over 20million copies (30million if some reports are to be believed) only ever had one edition...

I simply love it! This would be my top Spice Girls album if it weren't for If U Can't Dance... While I adore that song live I have never really liked it on the album it sounds very demoish, I normally end the album on Naked insead.

1. Who do you think you are

2. Say you'll be there

3. Wannabe

4. 2 become 1

5. Something kinda funny

6. Love thing

7. Naked

8. Mama

9. Last time lover

10. If you can't dance

^ Is my ranking of the album... WDYTYA is SUCH a stomper it should be played in clubs so much more (or at all lol) I bloody love it!

This was my introduction to music and the start of my music collection. I started listening to my parents music around the same time but your first album is always special.

I have so many memories listening to this album on cassette tape during 1996 and 1997 - such amazing times.

When I was a kid, I literally came across a copy of it on CD or cassette no matter who's house I went to whether I was playing with family, friends, neighbours etc

My favourite single was 'Who Do You Think You Are', I still love it but as I've grown older I think 'Say You'll Be There' and '2 Become 1' are my favourite singles. Favourite album tracks were always 'Love Thing' and 'If U Can't Dance' but over the past few years it's been between 'Naked' and 'If U Can't Dance'.

My ranking

1. Who Do You Think You Are

2. 2 Become 1

3. Say You'll Be There

4. Naked

5. If U Can't Dance

6. Something Kinda Funny

7. Love Thing

8. Wannabe

9. Last Time Lover (This is pretty low, but I've always been a fan of this song)

10. Mama

I can’t rank this album because it’s perfection!!

Had it on Cassette , then on CD !

I wish they had done Naked again on last years tour.

I think it would've been so fascinating to see the reaction from a grown up audience.

My ranking of each track on this amazing album =

01. Say You’ll Be There = 10/10
02. 2 Become 1 = 10/10
03. Who Do You Think You Are = 10/10
04. Wannabe = 10/10
05. Mama = 10/10
06. Love Thing = 9/10
07. Something Kinda Funny = 8/10
08. If U Can’t Dance = 8/10
09. Naked = 8/10
10. Last Time Lover = 7/10

It was a great debut and all round strong album and the buzz around the spice girls was so so huge at this time, its not as good as spiceworld but like spiceworld its one of the strongest albums by a girl group.

I adore this album start to finish. I prefer it to Spiceworld as the album tracks outside of Love Thing are much more cool and grown up with RnB tinged than Spiceworld.

For a pop band who burst on the scene with Wannabe, last time lover, naked, if you cant dance and something kinda funny are all very grown up and mature.

I cant fault this album at all.

I am making my way through their albums, starting with this :cheer: It's a great album and brings back so much nostalgia *.* 'Wannabe' is such a signature song but it's out of the top 3 in terms of an album ranking. The singles are all incredible - so many great pop moments and statements within them. Also the album tracks are all varying degrees of good/great too with 'If You Can't Dance' being the only one I'm not totally here for. I don't think there's any filler on the album :o The biggest grower was 'Naked' on this listen! Does anyone else get 'Erotica'-era Madonna vibes from it; maybe not in the chorus but in the spoken verses! Overall, a great album and a good example of quality over quantity with every track being a great inclusion to the album!

Here's my rank of the album:

1. 2 Become 1

2. Say You'll Be There

3. Who Do You Think You Are

4. Wannabe

5. Love Thing

6. Mama

7. Naked

8. Last Time Lover

9. Something Kinda Funny

10. If U Can't Dance

I hope it's an acceptable rank for this forum :kink:

Love Thing as your highest album track is the correct choice *.*

I actually didn't rate If U Can't Dance very highly, for many years... there was something about the studio version I found a bit lacklustre in comparison to the 1998 tour version. I have warmed up to it now though, last year's tour made me find a new appreciation for it.

Looking forward to your thoughts on Spiceworld and Forever

I still don't really rate the studio version of If u can't dance... it sounds like a demo. Live it is always total fire though I love it live!

If You Can't Dance is the #3 in Spice for me, overall, after Say You'll Be There and Who Do You Think You Are?.

It's almost perfect. It's super cool, chilled and interesting. I think it is so funny that people see them as these almost bubble gum group but when you dive into the album there are some quite experimental tracks in there that really marked them as quite differnt from the rest of the pop landscape.

I think beyond them, only Girls Aloud really showed a vast amount of versatility in their experimentations with pure pop music.
