LOL well I agree. Just was pointing out that cringe lyrics can be written by everyone so no need to make that distinction you were making in the first place ;) :P

Maybe the point wasn't being made there, however there have been ALOT of posts about Geri's songs and how bad they are, how she has no talent, how she is either an attention seeking whore or boring in white... I'm not even a big fan of Geri haven't been for a few years but it can be quite uncomfortable reading.

Also lets use this thread for Forever chat, there wasn't really much need for Geri to be brought up regarding a song that doesn't even involve her.

I agree that some of the comments towards Geri lately are more of an opportunity to bash her than to offer constructive criticism, so please lets be mindful of that.

We all know that without Geraldine there wouldn’t have been any Spice Girls. To stay on topic, Forever proves that. I love Holler, it’s my favorite Spice song with Say You’ll Be There and Viva Forever, but the album was lackluster and had no personality. It missed the G element. It tried hard to be cool and it ended up being bland.

On the other side, you had Geri with Schizophonic, a cringefest, but with personality. That said, I still think it’s fair to say Geri lyrics were and still are bad. It’s a problem of all the girls when they went solo, that’s why they’ve always been co-writers and not the only songwriter.

ICONIC SINGLE!

They always KILLED IT with Holler performances :yahoo: :cheer:

and Let Love Lead The Way is a stunning track! Some of the lyrics are a bit meh and the video is terrible BUT it somehow works, specially in a live setting!!

I didn't buy the Holler single because the MAW remix didn't interest me but, I remembering buying 'Forever' the day it came out, and popping it in my CD player and thinking: there are going to be so many bangers on this because Holler is so great!

Holler played. Check.

Tell Me Why played. Check, but I didn't get into it until the very last 30 seconds of the song.

LLLTW played. Check, but cheesy lyrics noted.

Ok, pressure is on. Right Back At Ya better bring it. And then it didn't.

Then tracks 5 & 6 basically sounded the same. <_<

Weekend Love played. Check. Loved it. Mel B's rap scared the shit out of me and I loved it. :yahoo:

Time Goes By. Ooof. No.

If You Wanna Have Some Fun. Check. B-)

Oxygen. Check, huge potential but fell a little flat.

Goodbye. Check. Obviously. Amazing ballad. :w00t:

In short: Geri's absence was noted and I was left with a "well...it's over" feeling after playing Forever the first time. Sad day, but, in hindsight, the 4 piece blew it. Especially after scrapping a lot of the 1998/1999 recordings.

My point is: I also bought Schizophonic, but, I didn't find it to be as much of a cringefest as some other fans seem to think. Look At Me, Mi Chico Latino, Goodnight Kiss, Bag It Up (my favourite), and Someone's Watching Over Me ... they all had that "personality" that was missing from the middle section of Forever. I also thought the lyrics were decent. Bag it Up is my favourite because it's the closest thing to Who Do You Think You Are. Its lyrics are a lot of fun, and are close to not making any sense like some of the lyrics to Spice Up Your Life, which is pinnacle Spice energy for me.

I think the Rodney Jerkins production was the bigger down fall for Forever over Geris lyrical absence.

Yes the lack of Geris creative zest was felt but with the right producers they could've definitely kept a good spicy/personality driven sound that would have been a good continuation of the first two albums.

The Jam and Lewis tracks are definitely Forever's strength for me in hindsight I'd have been OK with the entire album being by them.

To be fair, we don't know what they (or their team) told Jerkins they wanted to sound like - they might've specifically told him that they wanted to sound like the ones he produced at the time - DC, Brandy, Toni etc.

The 4 “leaked” songs (the ones that came via the Scottish one) with the ranges in sound showed they didn’t necessarily “need” Geri, but her lack of input clearly came through when they decided to go for a more R&B route after scrapping these songs. Geri would never have gone for it and we know that from her own autobiography.

There's plenty of Spice in Forever

Biff is right: they needed to change things up and not do the same again. Was it too much of a risk? Of course. But it was an evolution, which unfortunately was badlt received because the press had its guns pointed at them (well documented) and the fans were (are) stuck in 1998.

As Emma said at the time, if they had done the same sort of sound from the first albums, they would have been slaughtered just as much back then. They were in a no-win situation unfortunately.

It is what it is. I love Forever and think it BOPS!! Bops after bops!!

Forever is a mediocre RnB album. Which is very disappointing coming after two pop masterpieces. Forever sounds soulless to me. The album has no identity of its own. It's clearly a Fanmail and The Writing's On The Wall clone. It just doesn't work.

If the Biff pop tracks are trash, then it proves even further how important Geri's songwriting is to the group.

Forever was a hastily made album. The songs are good but there's always a feeling that something is missing. There is a lack of production in some songs. A few more instruments would make some perfect songs. They wanted to radicalize, but the perfect way out would be to keep some pop, move to darker rock and some disco vibes. Forever would bring a new proposal without losing the group's identity.

My dream tracklist would be something like this:

1- WOMAN - Yes, the holy gral, controversial song from the Spice Girls story - I would definitely put it on the album, in a more Disco version like We Are Family and it would guarantee an anthem.

2- Holler - Perfect as it is. Nothing to change. Maybe add some guitar like the 1999 live version.

3- Tell me Why - this song would definitely sound better in a dark rock version with guitars and everything, and a pop beat. So it would be a strong candidate to be a single.

3- Let Love Lead The Way - I wouldn't change anything. Flawless production.

4- Right Back At Ya - The album version is more interesting than the leaked version. Although the pop version sounds more fun. I wouldn't change anything, maybe make it a little Rockier like I would with Tell Me Why.

5- Get Dow With Me - Believe it or not, there is a lot of potential in this song that was wasted on this cheap version. I once listened to a remix made by a fan, using the base of another song by another artist. And, dude, it would have been SO much better if they had used guitars and made a more electro beat.

6- Wasting My Time - Lack of quality and voices. Only 3 of them sing. The effects used are annoying and annoying. The only salvation for this song is to make it more Disco.

7- Weekend Love - Although many like this one, I would take it off the album and replace Pain Proff instead.

8- Time Goes By and Oxigen = Boring songs, too slow. I would trade them both for a version of A Day In Your Life. However, this version would be different from the leaked version, with a Spanish-style like Viva Forever

9- If You Wanna have Some Fun - Perfect as it is, it wouldn't change anything except for the repetitive ending "are u having fun?" What did they have in mind? Looks like they had to finish the song anyway and chose the worst way.

We totally missed the 21st anniversary yesterday!

Forever was released on 6th November 2000! Can you believe it has been 21 years? :o

Four more years to go until we get WOMAN?! :teresa:

Yes pleeeaasseee!!!

Gorgeous album this, full of great gems

There are at least 4 songs that the fans know of or heard about so far. I bet it will be from this bunch that will get released. Definitly seems like WOMAN will get a release, from what Biff has said so far.

Either way IM EXCITED AND HERE FOR IT!!

Things I would love to see in the Forever25:

- A new CD being released, probably limited edition

- A 2CD Delux with demos and unreleased tracks including: WOMAN, the original pop version of Right Bact At Ya and a couple of the Biff tracks we are yet to hear. It would also include notes from the producers and the girls on the album.

- A picture disk with the design of the four elements (like the videos)

- A limited vinyl edition of the album but in remix form including a studio version of the Holler 2019 tour mix

- A Spice-store exclusive vinyl on gatefold

- HMV exclusive coloured vinyl with the unreleased tracks

- Amazon exclusive vinyl with the unreleased tracks

I would also send signed copies of the vinyl album to independent stores, to support that trade!!

Would all be amazing. Why do I have an awful feeling that Forever 25 will be ignored though ?

I dont think it will be ignored, but it will definitely not be as expansive as the rest <_<

It makes sense. I’m not the biggest Geri’s fan, but I don’t think it’d be great to celebrate an album that doesn’t include her, an album that only fans remember it exists (don’t get me wrong, I love Forever, but I think Spice compared to it is a punk record).

I see Forever getting a re-release for 25 years but it would be more a deluxe cd, silver vinyl and cassette type release not the loads of formats of spice and Spiceworld.

You "see" or you "already know"? :cheer:

It's in the plan but who knows it's still 4 years off, I think the success of Spice would probably mean it will happen but I expect it to be low key compared to Spice and Spiceworld.

Right now I wouldn't rule anything out with them. Melanie C talking about new Christmas music just shows where they are right now that nothing is off the table. Spice has shown they can be successful and having new/unreleased music released won't hurt their legacy as feared.

There are plans for the movie getting a re-release which would bring us nicely into 2023 with the tour. Just depends if the tour they feel gives them a nice place to finish the celebrations or if all this makes them eager for more.
