April 29, 20206 yr Author -pIEXUZqhIg 01. Forbidden Love From Madonna's 'Bedtime Stories' album, 'Forbidden Love' is the first song in the spotlight from the 90s. In this sultry song, Madonna compares being rejected to an aphrodisiac and she sings of the pleasure from a relationship tainted by taboo and wrong-doings. She states that in the wrongness, there is so much right and she seductively pours out her deepest fantasties in a most alluring and tempting way. The song features samples from "Down Here on the Ground" by Grant Green and perfectly sits between the dainty sounds of its parent album. What are your thoughts on this sordid number from 1994?
April 29, 20206 yr Could have even a single . Babyface knows how to write a slow jam doesn’t he. Was a fav of mine from the album as a kid , I think HN has overtaken now. I can totally see why this was included on STR.
April 29, 20206 yr Author I like this, but it's not love. Like much of the album, it works listening all together when wanting that vibe. On its own, the song is pretty stunning though and the lyrics are so alluring. I much prefer Confessions' version of the song, that's my favourite album track from her!
May 1, 20206 yr A big favourite of mine on Bedtime Stories! So soothing and inviting. I read it was set to be the fifth single from the album but was scrapped in favour of the Something to Remember ballads collection, which of course this features on. I love the Confessions version of the track too, it is one of her best album tracks but I feel that's meant this version is always overshadowed when it deserves its own attention.

It was recorded on the day her friend and fashion designer Gianni Versace was killed in Miami, and this explains the painful emotion that is present throughout the song. It is spiritual in its lyrics, as Madonna sings of washing away sins and being renewed. Heart-breaking lyrics of loss, life, birth and death, move throughout the song as the production ebs and flows. What are your thoughts on this wavey number from 1998?
May 10, 20206 yr Author 'Swim' is absolutely gorgeous in my opinion. The lyrics are haunting and so deep. It's great at the start of the album too as it allows the listener to shed away their thoughts and be renewed ready for the rest of the album that is to follow. It does the job of an album track perfectly: sets a tone, continues a message, acts as a thought-provoking moment and adds fluidity to the album.
May 13, 20206 yr There's something very poignant about 'Swim' and its lyrics of rebirth and freedom with Gianni Versace's death in mind. This is like a meditation piece with Madonna talking you through motions and images, easing you into a calm state of mind. I agree its place on the album is perfect for this reason.

May 19, 20206 yr Author 8pq-Tf8mh-M 03. Secret Garden From Madonna's raunchy and experimental album from the early 90s, Secret Garden is the final song on 'Erotica'. It is described as the album's most personal song, and is about the singer's vagina or as she coins it: "the secret place where she could enjoy herself.". It's a slow moving song, with a piano accompaniment alongside the album's signature drum beats and sees Madonna explaining the thrills and enjoyment she gets from her secret place. An incredibly bold song for a mainstream popstar to include on an album, and testament to just how far she pushed the boundaries in the 90s with regards to femininity and identity. What are your thoughts on this flowery number from 1992?
May 20, 20206 yr Author I can't say this is a favourite of mine. It works quite nicely as an album closer but that's about it. I never return to it on its own so it's one of my least played songs from her.
May 29, 20206 yr It's not a standout for me, but I do love the jazz-house production. It's a nice way to wind-down the album and the vocal style compliments the opening, title track.

The song is often cited as one of Madonna's greatest album tracks, due to its production and lyrical power. What are your thoughts on this gorgeous beauty from 1997?

June 11, 20206 yr The production on this album is flawless start to finish, but 'Sky Fits Heaven' is one of the best. I love the harsh techno sound, crashing and thumping, then this dainty piano melody appears in the chorus. It's a real experience, one of the songs that stood out to me even as a pre-teen with young, superficial tastes. I think if there had been a tour for the album following the Grammys, this should have been pushed as the sixth single. It already had some club exposure from the remixes that were commissioned and it seems to be regarded as one of her best album tracks across the board!
