June 11, 20206 yr Author Should have been a single! Perhaps instead of 'Drowned World'. Truly magnificent track. I know Drowned World has its fans, but I agree with this!
June 11, 20206 yr I think all the singles are 10/10s for me, but I can see a point about dropping 'Drowned World' for 'Sky Fits Heaven'. It carries on the chaotic, clubby production style of 'Ray of Light' and it would have been nice to have pushed that further. I guess 'Drowned World' was an usual choice of single too, but as I say I love all the singles, I'd rather have had six than try replace one!
June 17, 20206 yr Now I've heard the album, I'm SO happy 'Sky Fits Heaven' is seen as a major highlight as that one really struck, with me! Absolutely gorgeous. I love 'Drowned World / Substitute for Love', but I agree. They should have switched them out! DW/SFL serves perfectly fine as the introduction to the album, whilst SFH would have served it's purpose more as a single than the former ever did, imo. STUNNING
June 23, 20206 yr Author R0cfZczo4yk 05. I'll Remember I'll Remember was recorded for the film 'With Honors'. It was released as the lead single from the film's soundtrack album and was later included in her ballads collection 'Something to Remember'. The song showcased a radical change in image and style following on from her release of the Sex book and the 'Erotica' album. It was critically appreciated and a commercial success. The song was nominated for Grammy and Golden Globe Awards. What are your thoughts on this ballad from from 1994?
June 23, 20206 yr I have a real soft spot for I'll Remember. It's a lovely ballad and was also home to a William Orbit remix so I like to think it sort of started the Ray of Light album in a way! It's not the most adventurous song in her catalogue but it's very effective in what it does, it's a simple little song but I really like the sort of shimmery production and it has a lovely little tune to it too.
June 23, 20206 yr Agreed with you Dandy. It's a song I've been guilty of neglecting but I've been appreciating it more since the rate. The production is reminiscent of some of her latter half 80s music (you can tell it's Patrick Leonard produced) and I like how the lyrics are a positive, hopeful spin on a break-up. The music video is like a precursor for 'Rain' too.
June 25, 20206 yr Author I hardly ever listen to this because it doesn't feature on a studio album (which I tend to go for when I want some Madge), but it is beautiful. Her whimsical, airy vocals are heavenly
July 13, 20205 yr Author sJV29ZQIUhs 06. Deeper and Deeper Deeper and Deeper was released as the second single from 'Erotica'. It was later included on GHV2 as a shortened version. The song is the most club-ready song on the album. Lyrically it is on the surface about sexual desire but others have argued it is about coming to terms with a person's homosexuality. It was a commercial success and has continued to be loved by new generations, and has been included in subsequent tours, bringing new life to the song decades later. What are your thoughts on this electrifying single from 1992?
July 17, 20205 yr Author Definitely one of her best. It truly came alive at the Rebel Heart tour and i'm so glad I got to witness it live! Pure love
July 23, 20205 yr Author zAJ09uYagog 07. Survival Survival opens Madonna's 6th studio album Bedtime Stories. It is a very fitting album opener as it introduces the era by exploring "a narrative of the punishment she endured from the media and her feelings leading up to the release" of the album following on from the controversy of the Erotica era. Throughout the song, Madonna sings of dualities such as heaven and hell, up and down, angels and saints, perhaps representing the conflicting thoughts in her head at the time of the album's release and the attention she had from the media. What are your thoughts on this album opener from 1994?
August 14, 20205 yr Author KD_1Z8iUDho 08. Don't Cry For Me Argentina Don't Cry For Me Argentina was performed by Madonna in the film 'Evita' and it was released as the second single from the soundtrack. For its release, Madonna remixed the song to put her own stamp on it. It went on to become a top 10 hit across the seas. What are your thoughts on this movie track from 1996?
October 20, 20205 yr Author WyhdvRWEWRw 09. Erotica To commemorate the 28th birthday of the album, let's go to title track Erotica. The ode to S&M is delivered in a spoken word tone, as Madonna becomes Miss Dita, luring her lover in to explore the boundaries of pain and pleasure. What are your thoughts on this erotic track from 1992?
October 25, 20205 yr Author It is a great lead single and still stands the test of time today as being unique, alluring and captivating. You don't really get lead singles like this from the pop girls now!
October 28, 20205 yr I've gone on a big journey with 'Erotica' - I immediately dismissed it on first listen but time has allowed me to really appreciate it's worth. Everything is executed perfectly: the hypnotic beats, the spoken vocal, the crackling of vinyl at the start; the whole tone gives the impression that this is something forbidden yet undeniably intriguing. Agreed with vibe that the remixes are great, as are the alternative versions of the song. I particularly enjoy 'Love Hurts' and its nod to MJ: 8wkjSPcqquU
October 28, 20205 yr Author 'Love Hurts' is sublime. I actually listened to MJ's Dangerous album earlier today, so that's a great little coincidence :D
November 8, 20205 yr Author 0-CoaxbhXj0 10. Little Star Released as a promotional single, Little Star features on Madonna's 7th studio album, Ray of Light. In the song, Madonna sings of how happy she is following the birth of her daughter, Lourdes. It's a gentle song filled with Madonna's jovial, proud and ecstatic emotions pouring through every lyric. What are your thoughts on this delicate track from 1998?
November 9, 20205 yr There's so many big moments on 'Ray of Light' and I've often ended up sidelining 'Little Star' because of it, but I've tried to show it more attention as it is a really touching, gentle song. "May the angels protect you and sadness forget you" is a great lyric and the production conjures up feelings of wonderment and hope and sweetness, which complements the message beautifully.
November 9, 20205 yr I also adore the lyric that Liam has pointed out !! Little Star is gorgeous !!! And we have the Oprah performance live !!
