1st place P!nk-Just Like A Pill [77.14%] (27 votes out of 35)

And so it wasn’t even close, P!nk steals a second win! Joining the likes of Shakira, Britney, Lady Gaga and Sugababes to achieve this feat. Just Like A Pill was the third single released from the M!ssundaztood album and it became her second UK no.1 in September 2002 and also her first solo No.1. It was at the top spot just in time for my 14th birthday and was somewhat of a surprise chart topper at the time going head to head with Eminem and Busted’s debut. Hindsight is a great thing though and this is possibly P!nk’s most beloved single which is still kept in high regard to this day.

2nd place Alphabeat-Fascination [22.86%] (8 votes out of 35)

I could see this winning in other rounds so bad luck to Alphabeat. The Scandi group took Fascination to no.7 in March 2008 and it was very much a theme to my first year of uni. They were due to play at the Aberystwyth May Ball but pulled out which was gutting. Sugababes also pulled out after one of them missed a flight (though going on form, they could have literally plucked out any student to replace her) and so we were left with ikonec headliners…..Vengaboys.

1st place Sugababes-Hole In The Head [58.82%] (20 votes out of 34)

Their 4th win out of 5 polls, Hole In The Head triumphs for Sugababes! It was the lead single from their third album 3 and it raced to no.1 in October 2003 becoming the song to finally unseat Where Is The Love by Black Eyed Peas.

2nd place OutKast-Ms Jackson [41.18%] (14 votes out of 34)

Runner up is Ms Jackson. OutKast took the track to no.2 in February 2001 to become their highest peaking sing if not their biggest hit. I remember feeling at the time it was a sure fire no.1 but it couldn’t dislodge Atomic Kitten on their fourth week.

1st place Madonna-Sorry [51.52%] (17 votes out of 33)

Madge finally wins one of these! By a whisker as well! Sorry was the second single released from Confessions On A Dancefloor and Madonna took the track to no.1 in March 2006. I recall following the week on CoolClarity shortly before the collapse and Westlife reached No.4 the same week which lead to many a meltdown.

2nd place Blue-All Rise [48.48%] (16 votes out of 33)

Commiserations to Blue! All Rise was their debut single reaching No.4 in May 2001. It overcame Radiohead but couldn’t pass DJ Pied Piper, S Club 7 or Dido to hit the top spot though it went on to become a long running hit and much more remembered than their 3 No.1 hits.

3rd place Take That-Rule The World [38.89%] (14 votes out of 36)

4th place U2-Vertigo [31.03%] (9 votes out of 29)

5th place Mason Vs Princess Superstar-Perfect (Exceeder) [36.11%] (13 votes out of 36)

6th place Ciara Feat Missy Elliott-1, 2 Step [32.35%] (11 votes out of 34)

7th place Lumidee-Never Leave You (Uh Oooh, Uh Oooh) [36.36%] (12 votes out of 34)

9th place Limp Bizkit-Take A Look Around [34.21%] (13 votes out of 38)

10th place *NSYNC Feat Nelly-Girlfriend [27.03%] (10 votes out of 37)

Wow that was close, I'm surprised people seem to have been predicting Blue to win! I do like 'All Rise' but 'Sorry' was an easy choice for me there, one of my favourite Madonna songs and I think it's aged really well.
It was about time Madonna got a win and some of her best songs have been and gone in these polls, looking at what’s to come for her lower down, there aren’t loads. Sorry was deserving.

1st place Kesha-Tik Tok [54.55%] (18 votes out of 33)

Kesha is victorious here! Following on from her feature on Flo Rida’s no.1 Right Round from earlier in the year, she released her first solo hit Tik Tok in November 2009 and it went on to peak at No.4. It’s such a shame to think of the treatment she was receiving when having this success.

2nd place Eve Feat Gwen Stefani-Let Me Blow Ya Mind [45.45%] (15 votes out of 33)

Eve’s second UK hit becomes second place here. The rapper teamed up with No Doubt’s Gwen Stefani in August 2001 to chart Let Me Blow Ya Mind at No.4. Eve had moderate success following this and Gwen went on to have more success with her band and even more as a solo artist.

1st place Tomcraft-Loneliness [63.64%] (21 votes out of 34)

Tomcraft are victorious here. Loneliness won a close battle against Craig David/Sting of all people back in May 2003 to take the no.1 position.

2nd place David Guetta Vs The Egg-Love Don’t Let Me Go (Walking Away) [36.36%] (12 votes out of 34)

David Guetta’s first huge hit was this remix/rerelease Love Don’t Let Me Go (Walking Away). The track hit no.3 in August 2006.

3rd place Kylie Minogue-Spinning Around [41.94%] (13 votes out of 31)

10th place Blue-Breathe Easy [30.30%] (10 votes out of 33)

1st place The Killers-When You Were Young [67.65%] (23 votes out of 34)

A landslide for the Killers! Their second win in these polls, they took When You Were Young to no.2 in September 2006 to become their highest peaking song and lead single from their sophomore album. I loved this era for the band and I’m happy to see I’m not the only one.

2nd place Gwen Stefani-Hollaback Girl [32.35%] (11 votes out of 34)

I was amazed to see Gwen Stefani finish so high but I’m not complaining! Hollaback Girl was the third single from her solo debut and peaked at No.8 in May 2005 becoming this biggest seller of the year not to make the top 5. It also helped millions learn how to spell bananas.

3rd place Billie Piper-Day & Night [42.42%] (14 votes out of 33)

4th place HelloGoodbye-Here (In Your Arms) [44.12%] (15 votes out of 34)

1st place Dido-Here With Me [56.76%] (21 votes out of 37)

Dido wins her second round! Following her feature on the Thank You sampling Stan by Eminem, the UK became intrigued with Dido, her debut album No Angel creeping up into the top 10 shortly before the release of Here With Me and eventually to no.1. This single charted at No.4 in February 2001 and she ended the year with biggest selling album. The theme for Roswell, Here With Me helped me fall in love with Dido’s music and is one of my most favourite songs.

2nd place Alesha Dixon-The Boy Does Nothing [43.24%] (16 votes out of 37)

Mis-teeq’s Alesha Dixon had a failed attempt at a solo career in 2006 but fresh from a Strictly Come Dancing win, she returned in November 2008 with the pop tactic The Boy Does Nothing. Released in ‘diva week’ amongst Beyonce, Britney, Leona and Christina, the track eventually peaked at No.5. Many were voting this out from day 1 so I’m glad to see it finish as high as second.
