March 31, 20241 yr 1st Steps - Deeper Shade Of Blue (19/35 votes) [54.29%] 0RtjfvK7rXw?si=Fkik3Nqw5d7yNA0y It's a second survivor win for Steps following 'It's The Way You Make Me Feel' which won back in the No.62 edition. 'Deeper Shade of Blue' reached number 4 becoming the bands eighth top 5 hit at that time (April 2000). It was originally recorded by Tina Cousins but aside from some 12 inch vinyl discs pressed in 1998, hers remains unreleased. This Steps song clearly a popular song for everyone nearly unlike the prior one that won as it didn't pick up any votes for a while into the survivor and a defiant pop winner, winning also against a sea of indie which all landed up top 5 along with Steps! 2nd Kaiser Chiefs - Everyday I Love You Less and Less (16/35 votes) [45.71%] xAkg4cwJp1Y?si=SICVijJRCfU0sWyG Kaisers lands runner up with 'Everyday I Love You Less and Less' which was the third single from the bands debut album Employment and peaked at 10. In doing so became their second of five top 10 hits overall. It was a closer battle with them out in front at first before being overtaken and keeping a good pace with Steps but never actually regaining the lead. The song also is the opener to Employment too! 3. The Raconteurs - Steady As She Goes (21/38 Votes) [55.26%] 4. The Verve - Love Is Noise (17/32 Votes) [53.12%] 5. Reverend and The Makers - Heavyweight Champion Of The World (12/34 Votes) [35.29%] 6. The Saturdays - Issues (14/33 Votes) [42.42%] 7. Britney Spears - I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman (14/33 Votes) [42.42%] 8. O-Town - Liquid Dreams (14/33 Votes) [42.42%] 9. Jaimeson Ft Angel Blue - True (12/34 Votes) [35.29%] 10. March 31, 20241 yr Gosh, didn't expect Steps to win. Two wins for them on here is pretty unprecedented.
March 31, 20241 yr At least this is a Steps winner I can get behind! Though would have preferred Kaisers.
April 15, 20241 yr Winner = 1. Kelly Clarkson - Because Of You (28/41 Votes) [68.29%] Ra-Om7UMSJc?si=wy69LjVG8JpYLyO9 Taken as the third single from Kelly's Monumental album Breakaway.. 'Because Of You' wins with 28 out of 41 votes out of a female clash. The song is a heartfelt ballad originally written by Kelly when she was 16 as a way of dealing with her parents divorce. She wanted it to feature on her debut album Thankful but the label rejected it so she polished up on recording it and managed to put it onto Breakaway. The track is also written with ex Evanescence member Ben Moody and peaked at number 7 both here and in the States. 'Because of You' won Best Female Video at the 2006 MTV awards, deservedly so as the video is one of the best ever as well as the song itself! Runner Up = 2. P!nk - Don't Let Me Get Me (13/41 Votes) [31.71%] asaCQOZpqUQ?si=t_KkwhxEdKz9xfmn 2nd single from P!nk's second album Missundaztood, 'Don't Let Me Get Me' comes runner up. It follows up on her previous big hit in 'Get The Party Started' which almost made number one, this one peaking at 6. The video sees P!nk change her look and persona so as to exhibit as greater resemblance to Britney Spears who she name drops in the song. L.A. Reid, music executive makes an appearance to give her tips in the video as well. Little did we know that Alecia Moore's next single would become her first solo UK Number 1! 3. Artful Dodger Featuring Craig David - Re-Rewind (The Crowd Say Bo Selecta) (21/36 Votes) [58.33%] 4. Arctic Monkeys - Fluorescent Adolescent (12/40 Votes) 5. Britney Spears - I'm A Slave 4 U (11/32 Votes) [34.38%] 6. Nina Sky Ft Jabba - Move Ya Body (12/39 Votes) [30.77%] 7. Mark Owen - Four Minute Warning (14/32 Votes) [43.75%] 8. Leona Lewis - Happy (17/36 Votes) [47.22%] 9. Jack White & Alicia Keys - Another Way To Die (15/32 Votes) [46.88%] 10. LL Cool J Ft 7 Aurelius - Hush (12/36 Votes) [33.33%]
May 7, 20241 yr 1st 24/39 Votes QPWUyAZZfK0?si=iwBKSNJp0pAul2wO For the second time round it's another win for 'Call The Shots' from Girls Aloud, joining The Killers 'Human' as the only other song to win 2 different survivor editions. Clearly Girls Aloud fans didn't seem to mind on whether it had won before or not as it collects 24 out of 39 votes which is one less vote than they won over Mary J Blige with back in the No.59 Survivor. It's of course one of their most loved singles. Interestingly they also won on May 7th last year and todays date is... May 7th  2nd 15/39 Votes Xsp3_a-PMTw?si=3LtBnB1o1xyXsPcS and Muse have to make do with runner up here with the lead single from Black Holes and Revelations, 'Supermassive Black Hole' which is still to this day their highest charting hit peaking at number four in 2006. 3. Sash! - Adelante (18/33 Votes) [54.55%] 4. Calvin Harris - The Girls (15/33 Votes) [45.45%] 5. Busted - What I Go To School For (11/30 Votes) [36.67%] 6. Miley Cyrus - The Climb (10/36 Votes) [27.78%] 7. David Gray - The One I Love (10/37 Votes) [27.03%] 8. Usher - Pop Ya Collar (18/38 Votes) [47.37%] 9. McFly - That Girl (14/37 Votes) [37.84%] 10. Blazin Squad - Flip Reverse (14/37 Votes)
May 7, 20241 yr I think Muse were 15-14 up so the last 10 votes all went to Girls Aloud, but the expected result overall.
May 7, 20241 yr Yeah it swung in Girls Aloud's favour in the past day. Can't underestimate them  (I do love 'Call The Shots' though but would've preferred a fresh winner).
May 20, 20241 yr 1st (27/35 Votes) [77.14%] TJAfLE39ZZ8?si=MK5zxFNN3DTeNGTl To the shock of nobody Amy Winehouse comes out the victor here with 'Back To Black' a song that was already hard to listen to but in context of the past 13 years is even more poignant. The song actually is about Amy's turbulent relationship with Blake Fielder-Civil who left her for another relationship and the video even features Amy at a churchyard dressed in black to signify the fate of such a relationship. It's also been heavily connected to Amy's alcohol and drug addiction which sadly led to her young passing in 2011. It's inspired by 60's Soul and Motown music which Amy grew up listening to which shaped this era in general for her. It wins out with 27 (oops) votes. 'Back To Black' originally peaked at 25 with a lengthy run which is why it made it to the 2007, 100 selling singles but of course nabbed a new peak of #8 in 2011. 2nd (8/35 Votes) [22.86%] PZYSiWHW8V0?si=GePteMD_c6H9O1Yu Released as the second single internationally from Britney's third studio album, 'Overprotected' comes runner up. It's a dance pop release about a girl who is overprotected and wants to just be themselves. The video features Brit dancing in an abandoned factory. The song peaked at number 4 and picked up 8 votes from those 35 in total. Britney hasn't had a good track record of making a final of these for what must feel like forever as she's normally exited before then so in this moment it is certainly a case of Britney's back.. bitch!
June 9, 20241 yr Winner with 19/38 Votes [51.35%] fPKi_iF0LI4?si=Ag7_U-J_TdEuK5Vj in a tight lipped battle to win it's british dance act N Trance who triumph with 'Set You Free'. Originally released in 1993 where it only peaked at 38 only to get a re push in 1995 and peak at 2. It then got a Rob Searle remix and a re-release in 2001 where it peaked at 4. Helped by soaring vocals from Kelly Llorena.. the track is one made to blow the roof off at dance festivals. Considering a lot of dance tracks usually don't manage to make it all the way to this point that's another impressive feat in itself and a true testament to how iconic this particular track is. 2nd = 18/38 Votes [48.65%] xgYUj_pAD-w?si=1KtuMfISVRlRPkYC Sadly on 25th August 2001 Aaliyah was killed in a plane crash at the very young age of 22. Since then she is still regarded highly as a trailblazer of the rnb scene. 'More Than A Woman' went to the top of the UK chart in January 2002 only to be knocked off the next week by George Harrison with his 70's classic 'My Sweet Lord' which was a very poignant occurrence of two recently departed acts hitting #1 back to back. It was like a lot of her records produced by Timbaland who of course went on to have a successful career of his own 5 years later! 3. Watergate - Heart Of Asia (13/30 Votes) [43.33%] 4. Mika - Happy Ending (16/30 Votes) [53.33%] 5. Jordin Sparks - Battlefield (11/32 Votes) [34.38%] 6. Ashanti - Only U (12/31 Votes) [38.71%] 7. Goldie Lookin Chain - Guns Don't Kill People, Rappers Do (18/36 Votes) [51.43%]
June 9, 20241 yr Yessss! I did not expect Set You Free to win as I didn't even realise the remix was that well known, they even put the original version on Now 50 for some reason (while using the remix on the Now Dance album that had come out a few weeks earlier).
June 18, 20241 yr Winner for the second time 23/34 Votes [69.70%] hAx6mYeC6pY?si=0mvldEUISCCXN16L Sophie reigns supreme yet again with 'Murder On The Dancefloor' which of course returned to the charts earlier this year after it's use in Saltburn. It becomes the third song to win two separate survivors it appears in as it is just that popular. 2nd 10/34 Votes [30.30%] k6EQAOmJrbw?si=N0AjRro98pC95bJ9 Coming runner up is the wild 'Teenagers' from My Chemical Romance which was the 4th single released from The Black Parade and peaked at number 9 becoming their third non consecutive top 10 hit and the final top 10 in their career! 3. Black Eyed Peas - Shut Up (17/30 Votes) [56.67%] 4. Kelis - Caught Out There (14/36 Votes) [38.89%] 5. The Coral - In The Morning (10/36 Votes) [27.78%] 6.
