1st Steps - Deeper Shade Of Blue (19/35 votes) [54.29%]

 

It's a second survivor win for Steps following 'It's The Way You Make Me Feel' which won back in the No.62 edition. 'Deeper Shade of Blue' reached number 4 becoming the bands eighth top 5 hit at that time (April 2000). It was originally recorded by Tina Cousins but aside from some 12 inch vinyl discs pressed in 1998, hers remains unreleased. This Steps song clearly a popular song for everyone nearly unlike the prior one that won as it didn't pick up any votes for a while into the survivor and a defiant pop winner, winning also against a sea of indie which all landed up top 5 along with Steps!

 

2nd Kaiser Chiefs - Everyday I Love You Less and Less (16/35 votes) [45.71%]

 

Kaisers lands runner up with 'Everyday I Love You Less and Less' which was the third single from the bands debut album Employment and peaked at 10. In doing so became their second of five top 10 hits overall. It was a closer battle with them out in front at first before being overtaken and keeping a good pace with Steps but never actually regaining the lead. The song also is the opener to Employment too!

Taken as the third single from Kelly's Monumental album Breakaway.. 'Because Of You' wins with 28 out of 41 votes out of a female clash. The song is a heartfelt ballad originally written by Kelly when she was 16 as a way of dealing with her parents divorce. She wanted it to feature on her debut album Thankful but the label rejected it so she polished up on recording it and managed to put it onto Breakaway. The track is also written with ex Evanescence member Ben Moody and peaked at number 7 both here and in the States. 'Because of You' won Best Female Video at the 2006 MTV awards, deservedly so as the video is one of the best ever as well as the song itself!

2nd single from P!nk's second album Missundaztood, 'Don't Let Me Get Me' comes runner up. It follows up on her previous big hit in 'Get The Party Started' which almost made number one, this one peaking at 6. The video sees P!nk change her look and persona so as to exhibit as greater resemblance to Britney Spears who she name drops in the song. L.A. Reid, music executive makes an appearance to give her tips in the video as well. Little did we know that Alecia Moore's next single would become her first solo UK Number 1!

For the second time round it's another win for 'Call The Shots' from Girls Aloud, joining The Killers 'Human' as the only other song to win 2 different survivor editions. Clearly Girls Aloud fans didn't seem to mind on whether it had won before or not as it collects 24 out of 39 votes which is one less vote than they won over Mary J Blige with back in the No.59 Survivor. It's of course one of their most loved singles. Interestingly they also won on May 7th last year and todays date is... May 7th :lol:

To the shock of nobody Amy Winehouse comes out the victor here with 'Back To Black' a song that was already hard to listen to but in context of the past 13 years is even more poignant. The song actually is about Amy's turbulent relationship with Blake Fielder-Civil who left her for another relationship and the video even features Amy at a churchyard dressed in black to signify the fate of such a relationship. It's also been heavily connected to Amy's alcohol and drug addiction which sadly led to her young passing in 2011. It's inspired by 60's Soul and Motown music which Amy grew up listening to which shaped this era in general for her. It wins out with 27 (oops) votes. 'Back To Black' originally peaked at 25 with a lengthy run which is why it made it to the 2007, 100 selling singles but of course nabbed a new peak of #8 in 2011.

Released as the second single internationally from Britney's third studio album, 'Overprotected' comes runner up. It's a dance pop release about a girl who is overprotected and wants to just be themselves. The video features Brit dancing in an abandoned factory. The song peaked at number 4 and picked up 8 votes from those 35 in total. Britney hasn't had a good track record of making a final of these for what must feel like forever as she's normally exited before then so in this moment it is certainly a case of Britney's back.. bitch!

in a tight lipped battle to win it's british dance act N Trance who triumph with 'Set You Free'. Originally released in 1993 where it only peaked at 38 only to get a re push in 1995 and peak at 2. It then got a Rob Searle remix and a re-release in 2001 where it peaked at 4. Helped by soaring vocals from Kelly Llorena.. the track is one made to blow the roof off at dance festivals. Considering a lot of dance tracks usually don't manage to make it all the way to this point that's another impressive feat in itself and a true testament to how iconic this particular track is.

Sadly on 25th August 2001 Aaliyah was killed in a plane crash at the very young age of 22. Since then she is still regarded highly as a trailblazer of the rnb scene. 'More Than A Woman' went to the top of the UK chart in January 2002 only to be knocked off the next week by George Harrison with his 70's classic 'My Sweet Lord' which was a very poignant occurrence of two recently departed acts hitting #1 back to back. It was like a lot of her records produced by Timbaland who of course went on to have a successful career of his own 5 years later!
