May 15, 20206 yr What should the next Dua single be? The general consensus is that it’s between Levitating and Love Again. Anyone else have any suggestions? If someone says Boys Will Be Boys I’ll leave the forum. I agree Levitating and Love again are the obvious choices. Hallucinate is a good choice as well but the first two are more fresh sounding and different...
May 15, 20206 yr Ariana is really on shaky ground lately, her last 3. collar single are all crappy to say the least Monopoly, Don't call me Angel and Stuck with U are all a 0/10 :) I think we should wait until her next lead single before jumping the gun!
May 15, 20206 yr 02 | 01 | 6th week Drake Toosie Slide 1st single from Dark Lane Demo Tapes Released: 3rd April 2020 Label: OVO Chart Statistics NE (16/04/2020) | 2-3-4-4-1-2 Sales: 200k+ Certification: Silver Status: Standard Chart Ratio 08 Sales 02 Audio Streaming 03 Video Streaming Video xWggTb45brM Biography A couple of years after he broke into the mainstream with 2009’s So Far Gone, Drake was browsing art in Los Angeles when a piece caught his eye: a big neon sign that read, “LESS DRAKE, MORE TUPAC.” For a minute, he felt angry, embarrassed—he wanted to walk up and rip the sign off the wall. Instead, he bought it. After all, he figured, you get someone hanging your name next to Tupac’s, even if it’s only to take a shot at it? You must be doing something right. Born Aubrey Drake Graham in Toronto in 1986, Drake became—like Tupac—something of a generational voice, a prism for his pop-cultural moment. Was he an R&B singer who rapped or a rapper who sang? Was he really that sad, or just doing a bit? And if it wasn’t a bit, how could this guy—talented, intuitive, hardworking—really be so down? From minute one, there was something a little different about him: He could be confessional, vulnerable, but also incredibly coarse; he could make an earnest commitment one minute (“Take Care”) and be drunk-dialing the next (“Marvins Room”); he could convince you he was an underdog from his perch on top of the world (“Started from the Bottom”). Critics—and he’s had plenty—like to point out that he started as an actor: He played Jimmy Brooks in the Canadian teen show Degrassi: The Next Generation. But most of all, he felt like a person—someone who isn’t canceled by his paradoxes, but defined by them. Though the feelings remain (always feelings, big feelings), the sound—for the most part, courtesy of longtime affiliate Noah “40” Shebib—is always changing: a little dancehall here (“One Dance”), a little house there (“Passionfruit”), some old New Orleans bounce (“Nice for What”), a bit of Wu-style boom-bap (“Started from the Bottom”), some smooth, to-the-minute trap-soul (“Hotline Bling”). Like Kanye, Drake is as much a curator as he is a creator, an artist capable of arranging collaborators from a universe of styles and making them all fit into his personal vision—an approach that has made him one of the most definitive rappers and pop figures of his era. “I obviously spend a lot of time in my own world,” he told Beats 1 host Zane Lowe in 2016. “But when I do take a look at the broader scope of things, it’s often [in the studio]… Even though I don’t directly, literally address things in my music, I’ve always tried to make music that transcends gender, nationality—to try and unify people. Because that’s really what it’s about.” - iTunes Top 100 Chart History 2009 42 Forever (feat. May 15, 20206 yr 01 | 06 | 4th week DaBaby featuring Roddy Ricch ROCKSTAR 2nd single from BLAME IT ON BABY Released: 17th April 2020 Label: South Coast Music Group / Interscope Records Chart Statistics NE (30/04/2020) | 29-27-6-1 Sales: 60k+ Certification: - Status: Standard Chart Ratio 37 Sales 09 Audio Streaming 21 Video Streaming Video 83xBPCw5hh4 Biography In 2017, rapper DaBaby showed up to Austin’s South by Southwest festival wearing nothing but a diaper and sneakers—a gimmick, sure, but one that helped him go viral. Of course, that was the point: Since picking up the microphone in 2014, the Charlotte rapper (born Jonathan Lyndale Kirk in 1991) has demonstrated a keen awareness of how to cultivate presence in the internet era, coupling his bounciest tracks (“Suge,” “Walker Texas Ranger,” “Goin Baby,” “Baby Sitter”) with outrageous videos, crafting a persona by turns rude, violent, goofy, and dead serious. (His energy—he often sounds like he literally can’t wait to get on a track—can be so charismatic and infectious that you forget he’s rapping about how he’s prepared to mow down everyone in his way.) After a string of mixtapes, including eight released in 2017 and 2018 alone, he signed with Interscope in early 2019, releasing his first studio album, Baby on Baby, within a few months. - iTunes Top 100 Chart History DaBaby 2019 97 INTRO -1- 2019 66 BOP -2- 2019 13 My Oh My (Camila Cabello feat. May 15, 20206 yr Next week's contender? Katy Perry Daisies 3rd single from fifth studio album Released: 15th May 2020 Label: Capitol Records Video NutHKRKBgR0 Biography She’s the dream girl. The free spirit. The candy-coated pin-up and the well of inner strength. She’s a little Disney, a little Betty Boop. But she’s also an avatar for the modern female pop star in a post-Madonna world—the liberated woman who kicks open doors without knocking. Under all the sparkle and glitter, you could sense an artist grappling with messy human contradictions—about sexuality, about self-love, about asserting femininity in a man’s world. Talking to Apple Music in 2019, Katy Perry said she leads with her gut and lets her mind follow, and doesn’t make much sense of any of it until the work is done. “The themes are joy,” she said. “They are empowerment. They are trying to expand the boundaries of what I think, and trying to learn from all this opportunity.” She might actually be a superhero. But she also might just be what she is: a girl from Southern California who worked like crazy and didn’t flinch. Born in 1984 to Pentecostal pastors in Santa Barbara, Perry (originally Katy Hudson) grew up on gospel music, putting out her first album, 2001’s Katy Hudson, on a Christian label. At some point during adolescence, she discovered Queen, a band whose mix of flamboyance, power and sexualised wit cracked her creative world open. (Perry named her fragrance Killer Queen, after one of the band’s signature songs.) Club tracks, ballads, classic pop-rock and contemporary electronic music—Perry’s production collaborators are brilliant (Dr. Luke, Max Martin, benny blanco), but it's her songwriting, her image, her balance of playfulness and confidence that pull the package together. And for every “Teenage Dream” or “I Kissed a Girl”, there's a “Firework” or a “Roar”, music that turns expressions of vulnerability into anthems of inclusion and self-renewal—a dynamic that has made Perry an inspirational figure not only to young women, but for an LGBTQ community she vocally supports. Perry doesn’t quite know how she went so platinum—2010’s Teenage Dream reached commercial heights previously set only by Michael Jackson—but while the numbers are nice, the work is what's important. “It’s up to me to make the right choice in my mind to keep putting one foot in front of the other and going forward,” Perry told Apple Music. “Not going backwards—I could easily go backwards by literally looking at a photo. But I have to go forward, because I know what’s good for me now.” - iTunes Top 100 Chart History 2008 01 I Kissed A Girl -1- MILLIONAIRE 2008 04 Hot N Cold -2- 2009 27 Thinking Of You -3- 2009 19 Waking Up In Vegas -4- 2009 03 Starstrukk (3OH!3 feat.
