Serve us a DIRRTY win!

Re: Hurt what. a. SONG! The vocal slayage alone deserves to be forever remembered. The video though. :deadbanana: It kills me! I'd lowkey love for Christina to do a sequel album (in sound - I don't actually want it to be called Back To Basics 2 ) because she suits the jazz era so well.

It's about time for my arrival

#02. Dirrty (ft Redman) | 9.326

Highest Scores: 11: (Nina West, ready for it), 10: (vibe, Liam, dandy, Nightcrawler, Davidson, Scene, Nick Jonas, #VoteGarden.keh, Jordan Lee, Riser, Slick), Lowest Scores: 6: (Bjork)

So in the runner up position is....Dirrty, released in September 2002 as the lead single from her follow-up album Stripped & features American rapper Redman. Despite scoring massive success with her debut, Xtina was displeased with the lack of control over image & sound, so in response she desired to create a song that would represent her authentic persona. She approached hip hop producer Rockwilder and suggested using Redman's 2001 song "Let's Get Dirty (I Can't Get in da Club)" as a guide. Along with the controversial music video which pretty eliminated her bubblegum pop image. Originally RCA wanted "Beautiful" as the lead single, but Xtina insisted upon this as she felt it represented her real persona. Upon release the song received mixed reviews, mainly aimed at her new image & music video, but nonetheless the track became a massive international success by topping the charts in UK, Ireland & Croatia, as well as top 5 peaks in Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Switzerland, Australia, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Canada & Hungary. However in the USA it became a disappointment, with a peak of #48, making this her first to miss the top 20. But still to this day, this is considered as one of her signature hits.

I freaking love this track, this was where I sat up & really started to take more notice of Xtina who by this point was emerging into an artist. With this serving as a crucial point in her career, with something daring yet empowering at the same time, as well being very ahead of its time. Even the music video, In its own explosive way was her respective moment to declare herself not a girl, most definitely a woman. Bold and over the top, but in a wonderful way with its sleek yet sleazy R&B production & aggressive vocals that shows her re-defining herself in the most iconic way possible. Even if this fantastic track doesn't quite represent the album it comes from, but this was still the perfect choice to lead as this really makes a bold statement & a very pivotal moment in her discography, someone whose making decisions for herself, a true diva if you will. For any young artist looking to reinvent themselves, they should look to this (if they haven't already).

THE WINNER IS...

Pretended not to see the truth

#01. Fighter | 9.369

Highest Scores: 11: (vibe, Liam, dandy, WinterFreeze, Slick, ElectroBoy), 10: (Nina West, Jonjo, Nightcrawler, Davidson, Nick Jonas, Lukuzz, #VoteGarden.keh, Jordan Lee), Lowest Scores: 2.5: (Nick F1)

So there you have it Buzzjack, your fave Xtina single by just a single point is another iconic classic hit; Fighter, released in March 2003 as the 3rd single from her 4th studio album Stripped. The track was characterized as a hybrid of rock and R&B that incorporates elements of arena rock and rock and roll. The theme & meaning of this song was about her chaotic & abusive home-life & being bullied at school due to her musical passion. However all of these experiences made her become smarter & stronger, and from all of this, 'Fighter' was born. Upon release this track received positive reviews & became a commercial success by reaching #20 in the USA becoming her 9th top 20 hit, while faring even better in the UK by reaching a #3 peak, making this her 8th top 10 hit there. Elsewhere it managed top 5 peaks in Canada, Ireland, Netherlands & Australia, as well as top 10/20 peaks mostly everywhere else.

A well & truly worthy winner of this rate with this empowering anthem, where she delves into arena rock in order to make the song's message more upfront & YES, she totally pulls it off & therefore shows Xtina not only expanding her horizons, but her audience expectations of her image & sound. Of course this was the obvious next single choice after the massive & excellent first 2 singles, as this seemed like the natural next step in her continuing evolution, as well as showing the variety of sounds that its parent album has. The song's broad yet defiant production, as well as Xtina's powerful vocal tones, really makes this one for the ages as not only one of her very best moments in her wonderful discography, but very important also. If you give the album another listen, then its amazing that each song is by the same artist, including this as one its many, many shining examples. On the whole just an amazing track, nothing more, nothing less.

Not my preferred winner but tbh that whole top 10 (minus 'Your Body') is absolutely stellar. Long live Xtina.
Wonderful winner - one of my favourite ever songs. 'Dirrty' is an absolute bop too.

Just ctaching up on the rest of the results...

Hooray for Beautiful missing the top 5!

And excellent to see Fighter win - by far her best!

Best rate results I've seen in a while! Excellent top 3 even though I'd have loved Hurt to be top 2. Fighter has always been a fave and I'm so glad it's stood the test of time 17 years later
