i mean i can’t believe we’re even having a discussion about the quality of this track - you’d think they’d gone completely off-course + made something dramatically different. it’s a sonically current bop, radio are clearly loving it + it’s catchy as hell, if you give it a chance.

there’s absolutely nothing wrong with holiday - if your palate only stretches as far as bubblegum shouty sing-along choruses then its a shame for you - but don’t be shocked if you’re called out for coming for this track when your taste is clearly questionable.

So again, why is it flopping?

The fact that radio are 'clearly loving it' yet it's struggling to remain in the top 50 on Spotify after 10 days just shows you that nobody cares for the song. It's nothing to do with bubblegum shouty sing-along choruses....which, aside from Black Magic/Shout Out To My Ex/Break Up Song none of their singles really had. It's the fact that it's weak and forgettable.

Let's not try and get personal and act like someone has no taste for pointing out the obvious. If it's getting all this support then why isn't it clicking with people?

Radio won't affect streaming too much, it's exposure, sure, but we all know 95%+ of streaming is based on playlisting on those streaming sites?

Radio affect is more likely in line with iTunes (where it's still top 10) - the fanbase buys are predominantly first weekend, so airplay and video play tend to affect iTunes more than streaming.

So again, why is it flopping?

if i was replying specifically to you, i would have quoted your post like this one - i was speaking generally because other people in the thread have also commented - we’re having a discussion! (as much as i am agog we’re having it)

having questionable taste does not equate to having no taste - there’s nothing personal in making an observation.

it is also not flopping - it debuted top 20, is finding its feet + will hopefully stabilise. they still have their music video, live performance promo + better playlisting to come. i don’t think anyone here is unwilling to concede its performance may not be ideal so far but writing it off so flippantly, when your personal preference for the song seemingly casts a shadow (ha!) on your ability to look at it rationally, is an overreaction.

Because they're a girl group 10 years into their career.. 10 years not only brings a natural decline in commercial appeal, but also being a girl group is another negative, because they have more than 1-3 years of commercial value. Even looking at Sugababes & GA who were the "big" groups throughout the 00s never had consistent success, yeah GA had their streak but their longevity per song wasn't that big.

Also, as everyone else said, it's too early to call it a flop. It's struggling I agree, and yeah, I also agree that it's not as catchy as their only singles, but I don't think the quality/sound of the song has anything to do with this, it's very current with the pop climate so I don't understand that argument.

Badly flopping? The dramatics.

Some of you should try being a Katy Perry stan for a day. :drama:

This actually sounds like a recent KP single to me!

But could be Maroon 5's too.

Again....Break Up Song' was a big hit for them and that was only released three months ago. Is it underperforming because they're 10 years into their career or because the song just isn't good enough?

Pretty sure people were labelling BUS a flop for the first couple of weeks too...

Lol yeah it’s funny how all of a sudden Break Up Song was a big hit, it certainly wasn’t treated as such before Holiday.

I don’t think this discussion is worth it, there’s literally no point.

Non mover on Spotify at 52.

Remaining stable on most platforms now.

Spotify: #52

Apple Music: #26

Amazon Streaming: #48

iTunes: #10

Really hoping the music video comes this friday as it will (hopefully) give the song a good boost

The song just isn’t strong enough. BUS was a brilliant song, catchy and made an impression. Holiday is just weak. I am a huge of theirs but I haven’t even gone back to it in the last week. They need to give people what they want and this isn’t it.

People are saying on Twitter that they’re releasing an acoustic version on Friday. Probably one of those fake ones.

Yeah it wont be a proper one lmao. Does that also mean they wont release the music video then too ffs. I cant see them releasing both on the same day :/

I've heard it's out Monday. Videos get more traction on weekdays so it's probably better even though it's not a full tracking week.

Exciting, the acoustic will probably help the song a little anyways . So acoustic version this Friday (possibly) and then the video on Monday. Im expecting it to have a decent climb then!

I love Little Mix and I was super excited when this new single came out. It was the same day as the Taylor Swift release and I thought I’d been blessed by the gods above. On release, it was great to see it move quickly to #1 I think on KWORB. I listened to it for the first time and thought, okay, it must be a grower. And so I listened again... and again... I thought it must just be me and that I am now just too old and I don’t understand modern music anymore. That that day had finally come   I’ve gone back to it again today and still feel the same about it. I get that they are 10 years in the business & it becomes much harder for any females (especially groups) to remain successful but I also still think there’s enough hype and support for them to still do well and I really don’t think we can blame 10 years in the business for the lack of success - this time. Perhaps it will grow and reach a higher peak but ultimately the chorus isn’t strong enough & the song just isn’t catchy and memorable enough. I have no desire to play it again. However, I hope it reaches a higher peak and I’ll keep steaming it in the background & here’s hoping this is a poor choice for single and the rest of the album is awesome!
