February 7, 20214 yr Author The thing is he’s ENGLISH so they take a while to complain about him! Looks like City’s title now after that from Liverpool! City will walk the title, there are no questions to be asked. There is no title race, if anyone thinks Man Utd or Leicester can keep the pace with City they are deluded. They are incredibly fortunate that in the majority of their cup runs they have had easier ties so they can rotate- and once you get to this part of the season it shows. It's what our midfield used to do between 2018-2020. Foden was so good today, that was a special performance. We just have little/no physicality in us whatsoever which is a byproduct of the injuries we have racked up. The subs changed the game, but up to that point I thought it was fairly even. Something isn't quite right us with- Ederson makes an error in the 3rd minute and we're so slow and unwilling to take a risk, Allison decides to channel his inner Karius and City are 1-3 up before you know it. Mental.
February 7, 20214 yr It's going to be hard for City to lose the league title now after winning today, hopefully there will be some slip ups along the way because it was refreshing up until recently to not have a team far ahead at the top like we've seen in recent years. As for Liverpool I can see why they went 30 years without winning the league, they've been living off ending the 30 year wait ever since. Truly great champions would have the desire to win and win again, the players knew how good it felt to win a Premier League title and instead of using that feeling as motivation to do it again they are just content with winning it once. 10 points behind in early February with one more game played is shameful but because of the "romantic" story behind them winning it last season no one will say anything. They've got a couple of documentaries on TV after all.
February 7, 20214 yr I’m sorry but I don’t get your random rant about Liverpool at the end there?? There’s no basis in fact about it at all just sounds like a united fan that hasn’t seen their team win the league in 8 years (god love yous). You do know it’s really hard to win the league and even more difficult to retain it. And Liverpool were unlucky to have won when they were reaching or passing their peak, they could have won the last three years only city were as good. One good thing about today is that hopefully city will win it and so united can’t for another season.

What were City last year when they were about 12 points behind in December? We were doing fine up until December this year when the wheels came off. The injuries have caught up with us plain and simple, we have nothing to rotate players that are out of form and our midfield is running on empties. I'd like to see any team compete without their three CBs for almost the entriety of the season. It's hard to be too critical as this team has been amazing. Neville hit the nail on the head in comms, teams go round in cycles and this team clearly needs a bit of freshening up. Time to blood the new CBs in and make a go of it to finish top 4 and go again next season.

February 7, 20214 yr Author Where do you think Liverpool will finish now? Anywhere from about 2nd to 8th. The mad thing is our away from seems to have morphed in to our home form. Biggest concern for me is it's open season on all our records and we play Everton at Anfield in a couple of weeks and they NEVER beat us at Anfield. When it rains, it absolutely pours and right now it's monsoon season in 2020/2021 for Liverpool
February 9, 20214 yr Lol^ I think everyone forgets that since 2012 every single title defence has been SHOCKING apart from the one year City defended it. It's an amazing run really, we finished 7th after winning. Chelsea finished 10th, Leicester finished 12th, City were a million miles off the pace last season. It's actually not at all a surprise Liverpool have been miles off this season. If anything it's more surprising when a champion actually does well the next season! I do agree somewhat with Houdini, both Liverpool & Klopp have been arrogant imo. Okay, mitigating factors etc. but to not even bother to cover your defence in the case of injuries was a glaring oversight. Everyone knew before the season started the games were gonna come thick & fast and more injuries were likely to happen. It does feel like now they've won the title the monkey is off their back and they're just satisfied with that so have massively taken their foot off the gas. But as I said this isn't really anything new, it's expected that the current champions have less desire than the teams chasing them to win it again!

But as I said this isn't really anything new, it's expected that the current champions have less desire than the teams chasing them to win it again! It's hard to blame too much about the defence though, with hindsight it was short sighted to go in with three CBs and an emergency CB, but Van Dijk plays every single game, it is just a case of who partners him usually. To lose all 3 CBs not even halfway through the season is just unlucky. Matip is injury prone which I agree was a bit short sighted, but Van Dijk was a horror tackle and Gomez did his knee in during an England camp with no contact. It is unfortunate, but it happened. City struggled last season just losing Laporte. If you took Laporte/Dias/Stones or Maguire/Bailly/Lindelof out of the sides they'd all struggle to pick up points consistently. One thing I have noticed is this is probably the first time under Klopp since 2015 where the media have turned against us. Our home form has completely dropped off a cliff after fans were banned in December and since the Brighton game the media has turned on Klopp. He's an emotional guy so he rises to in reality he should just do a Guardiola and give one word answers. But I also do believe there is something bigger at play too, teams have worked out how to play against us and we spent all the short pre-season training with a ridiculous high line which we can't play currently. Anyway like City this season, I cannot see us being as bad at dropping points as consistently as we have done so longer term I am not worried, but I am a little concerned unless we start to find some form we won't even get Top 4 which would be disastrous.
February 9, 20214 yr It was wrong not to buy a centre back during the summer to replace Lovern but not sure how you can link that to arrogance. Liverpool normally have had the best scouts and signed the right deals since 2015 so they don’t just buy randomly they have to fit so maybe they decided there was no one suitable and decided to take the risk. Not as if the market was bouyant last summer with the pandemic(apart from Chelsea)!

But as I said this isn't really anything new, it's expected that the current champions have less desire than the teams chasing them to win it again! The thing is with the exception of Leicester all of those teams have/had won the league before in recent years but with Liverpool you can tell that it was all about ending the 30 year drought in the league and now that they've done that there is nothing more to prove. I heard some pundits on Match Of The Day making excuses for them talking about not having fans at Anfield when it's the same situation for every team. They're even one of the lucky few clubs that had some fans in attendance during a period of this season, both Manchester clubs amongst many others didn't even have a single fan in the stadium at any point of this season. Players shouldn't need fans to get them motivated, they should be able to do that themselves. If they had the same intensity as last season they would be far ahead of everyone including Man City. As for the injuries they still have almost all of their title winning squad fit and their current group of fit players is still better than every other apart from Man City's maybe.

Yeah but I hear this fans thing all the time.. it's swings and roundabouts, just look at the data, there's no such thing as home form really. I said it before but Man Utd, Everton and West Ham are all doing really well and they have all had dire home form pre covid and are well renowned for the fans getting on their backs. They're playing without the pressure and it is having an effect. No fans to boo them when they drop points at home to someone shite. I said it before but look our home form, it has dropped off a cliff since fans were allowed back in December and then were banned again. It's not about motivation, it's about psychology, players feed off the crowd, especially with the sports science these days, which I have no idea about but it's why these clubs contract sports pyscologists. Not matter how bad we play, do we lose all 3 in a normal season against City, Brighton, Burnley- not a chance. Do Liverpool beat Chelsea in 2005 CL semi without the crowd? 4-3 Dortmund in 2016? 4-0 vs Barcelona in 2019? I'd say it would be nigh on impossible. It's not an excuse as they should be doing better but these things have a massive effect. We have a good squad there is no doubt about that and I would say it is as good as City's when everyone is fit but that's just it we barely have a squad right now. We have had Allisson, Gomez, Virgil, Thiago, Keita, Matip, Fabinho, Jota, Shaqiri, Tsimikas, Mane & Trent all out for over 4-6 weeks. That's your squad right there. Some of the replacements can do a job for a game or two, but when you're asking to do that for 6+ weeks playing every 3-4 days it really shows.
February 13, 20214 yr The inevitable talk about Manchester City winning the quadruple has started again. Some people never learn  , no way they are winning the Champions League this season. A domestic treble could very well likely happen though.
February 13, 20214 yr Author The inevitable talk about Manchester City winning the quadruple has started again. Some people never learn  , no way they are winning the Champions League this season. A domestic treble could very well likely happen though. They have a good shot at the CL this year, the thing should just be canned though. Plausibly there is a scenario where they play both the home and away leg in Hungary  They do look very good though, the benefits of rotation and having a 2 week break in December are paying off! I do think it will be incredibly difficult for them though, they are playing a lot of games between now and May..
February 14, 20214 yr Interesting to see Mourinho roll out a new excuse - it's the referee's fault for insisting on playing the second half. Not fair.
February 14, 20214 yr That win for Fulham with their next three against Burnley, Sheffield United and Palace means the title and relegation might not be foregone conclusions by the end of Feb - have to be getting 6-7 points from those three though really.
February 14, 20214 yr Author That win for Fulham with their next three against Burnley, Sheffield United and Palace means the title and relegation might not be foregone conclusions by the end of Feb - have to be getting 6-7 points from those three though really. The title is a foregone conclusion, City will walk to 90 points at this current rate. There is absolutely no way Manchester United are getting close, Leicester have a better chance, but I can't see how they keep pace trying to balance Europe, FA Cup and the League now it's getting serious. Fulham definitely have a chance to get out though, I totally agree. Newcastle and Palace are extremely vulnerable so if either of the bottom 3 sides can pick up some form they definitely have a shot.
