February 27, 20215 yr This West Brom Brighton game has turned into a complete farce. I haven't seen the incident but have been hearing about it on Final Score. It has always seemed mad to me that a defending side can take so long setting up to defend a free kick. It means that they can gain an advantage by committing a foul and having the chance to organise their defence. The advantage should be with the attacking side. If they take the free kick quickly and screw up, that's tough. If they take it quickly and score, good on them. That doesn't mean they should be able to take it as soon as the referee blows for a foul but nor should they have to wait until a goalkeeper has got his defence exactly where he wants them.
February 27, 20215 yr Author Brighton probably deserve to be relegated for missing two penalties  BUT on a more serious note, I know I have been banging on about the referees and VAR for weeks but I fail to see how anyone can defend the referees after that? They're honestly a complete joke. PGMOL basically do whatever the hell they want and have zero accountability.
February 27, 20215 yr Brighton's continued 'ability' to not score goals is quite something, almost admirable

You make it sound as if this is the first time a team has ever missed two penalties in one game. The excuse for the nonsense over Brighton's goal that never was seems to be that the referee blew the whistle a second time just before the ball crossed the line. Nobody seems to know why he blew a second time.

Nobody seems to know why he blew a second time. It was only tongue in cheek  The 2nd one is probably karma as that was an incredibly harsh penalty against West Brom. But as always, the referees in this league just seem to make their own rules up as sometimes you see that given, sometimes you don't. Referees do this every week, they make shit up and then come up with a lame excuse. It was a horrible error and shows up that the majority of them are completely clueless. I can't believe people stand for this, VAR just makes the problem worse as clearly the VAR referees don't even know what they should be doing either so now you have two muppets looking at the game rather than one.
February 28, 20215 yr I echo what has already been said about the poor referring in the West Brom Vs Brighton match. That poor decision from the referee could end up having a big impact at the bottom of the table by the end of the season.
February 28, 20215 yr Lee Mason was meant to be the fourth official at Bramle Lane tonight and he’s not there as he picked up an injury allegedly 🤔
February 28, 20215 yr Author Lee Mason was meant to be the fourth official at Bramle Lane tonight and he’s not there as he picked up an injury allegedly 🤔 It did make me laugh when it broke last night  Felt a bit sorry for Man Utd for once (). They should have had a penalty. Although I'd argue that it not being given is karma due to the ridiculous free-kick they got earlier with McTominay booting someone in the head. One thing I am starting to see which is really pissing me off and was as clear as day that it was going to happen, is teams abusing the concussion rule to stop dangerous counter attacks. Not good!
March 1, 20215 yr Was always gonna happen wasn’t it! Weird as a united win woulda been good for us yday but still found myself half shouting for Chelsea to score when they attacked lol. Wonder if united will ever pick up any injuries at some stage?
March 1, 20215 yr We have lol. Bailly, Shaw, Pogba, Cavani, Rashford. What you mean is you're wondering if Fernandes will pick up an injury  I've now watched 6 hours of PL football against Chelsea and Arsenal and all 4 games were absolute garbage. Obviously should have been a pen though. So you can blast the ball at a defender at 100mph from 1 yard and get a pen but when someone specifically handles the ball away from the attacker that's absolutely fine? Go PL logic. The fact the ref allegedly told Maguire he couldn't give it "due to it being too controversial" is all the evidence we need.

I do find the lack of self-awareness from Solskjaer quite funny though  Yes it was a penalty. My gut feeling is he bottled the penalty after the free-kick, which should have been a drop ball. Now he's battering on about outside influences not giving penalties to them. I guess I just dreamt they got one against Newcastle?
March 1, 20215 yr Yeah agreed that he shouldn't lower himself to those types of comments. That Chelsea pre-match report was a joke though and such a pathetic low blow so can see why this one in particular rattled him when he usually is very level-headed and doesn't blurt out excuse after excuse (like a certain other few managers in the league). At the end of the day we have to be looking to challenge for the league next season and relying on a penalty to beat Chelsea especially when we absolutely smashed them twice in the league last season shouldn't be the way. Yesterday's match was 2 teams absolutely not wanting to lose, didn't see any urgency from either team to go for the win.

I do think a lot of these dour 0-0s between the top teams are a by-product of no crowds. There's no urge or intensity. Listening to Klopp last night, loads of have fans have been clamouring on him to go back to counter attacking football and soak some pressure up, but he said he refused to do it as that's not the way to win. And I think he has a point. I think for United to be challengers they almost need to change how they play - the old Benitez/Mourinho/Ferguson way of keeping the big games tight and hoping for an opportunity to nick it but settling for a draw is long gone. You will still win the odd games, but you even change a couple of those 0-0s in to wins and you'd at least have a small bit of pressure on City.
March 1, 20215 yr It definitely should have been a penalty but it was clear from very early on that it would end in a 0-0 draw. We seem to always play with a lot of caution in the matches against the "big six" and don't really go for it. It will probably be the same in the Manchester Derby next weekend, I can't see us winning that match but if we avoid defeat then we will have a good chance of going the whole league season unbeaten away from home which is something that has only been done twice by Arsenal. People are now actually believing that Manchester City will win the quadruple. Like I've said here before there's no way that they are winning the Champions League this season, Man United have a better chance of winning it than them! I really hope they get drawn against Bayern Munich in the quarter finals to put all of that talk to rest for another year.
March 1, 20215 yr i feel like we're going to get a city v liverpool quarter final champions league chelsea are the dark horses to win this, i think they're going to be very difficult to beat and beating Atletico 1-0 is huge.
March 1, 20215 yr This isn't even City's best team in the last 5 seasons. Yet they've still never made the final. They most certainly *can* win the CL based on their players though and in a final anyone can beat anyone but there's definitely still some inferiority complex with them in Europe, a bit like with PSG. Tbh a City vs PSG final would be an absolute must watch. Edited March 1, 20215 yr by Dobbo.

Should maybe change that to ‘season ending injuries’ then to be more accurate, we have had plenty of the above types of injuries too. Nearly fell off my chair when I seen Kieta coming on! Yeh would be interesting to see how’s yous cope without Fernandez for a decent period, would be interesting to see how loud her screamed if he actually got injured from a challenge as he’s a big fan of screaming like a child when he gets touched. March 1, 20215 yr Author City have as good a chance as anyone of winning the CL. But it's a cup competition and anyone can win it- different conversation! What I will say is I think they are only 2-3 games away from dropping points/getting beat now. Could easily be in the Man Utd game.
