August 31, 20204 yr The Verve lose money everytime it's played! Negative publishing lol That was all settled some time ago and they now make money from it.
August 31, 20204 yr True suppose they couldn't fit all the songs in! :o I meant that it was more a case that they don't want to play so many songs from the same band, rather than not being able to fit them all in.
August 31, 20204 yr Love 'Don't Look Back In Anger' Noel Gallagher really was an amazing songwriter, a poet really! Was? :) I think he has a good ear for melodies but his lyrics are kinda poor, wouldn't call him a poet
August 31, 20204 yr Author The Verve lose money everytime it's played! Negative publishing lol Not since 2019 when Jagger/ Richards signed over all future royalties to Ashcroft.
August 31, 20204 yr Love 'Don't Look Back In Anger' Noel Gallagher really was an amazing songwriter, a poet really! He always says he doesn't know what his lyrics mean!

August 31, 20204 yr Not since 2019 when Jagger/ Richards signed over all future royalties to Ashcroft. Ahhh that was nice of them. Least Urban Hymns sold bucketloads at the time.

August 31, 20204 yr well, if Stereophonics, Kula Shaker and Shampoo count as Britpop cos they are British and 90's, here's an alternative Popchart Top 20 Britpop :P (Based on chart performance, not how I rate them now) 1 BITTERSWEET SYMPHONY Verve 2 IF YOU TOLERATE THIS YOUR CHILDREN WILL BE NEXT Manic Street Preachers 3 YES McAlmont & Butler 4 WONDERWALL Oasis 5 SIX UNDERGROUND Sneaker Pimps 6 PUSH IT Garbage 7 THERE SHE GOES La's 8 STAY Bernard Butler 9 WHATEVER Oasis 10 COMMON PEOPLE Pulp 11 LUCKY MAN Verve 12 TO THE END Blur 13 DON’T LOOK BACK IN ANGER Oasis 14 FEMALE OF THE SPECIES Space 15 TATVA Kula Shaker 16 NEIGHBOURHOOD Space 17 GOVINDA Kula Shaker 18 SHE’S IN FASHION Suede 19 THE BALLAD OF TOM JONES Space & Cerys Matthews 20 GLORYBOX Portishead
August 31, 20204 yr The OCC now have an article on their web site. Using exclusive data from the Official Charts Company, Wonderwall by Oasis - a Number 2 hit in 1995 - tops the list at Number 1 with sales of 1.4 million, followed by their 1996 chart-topper Don’t Look Back in Anger in second place with 1.02m sales. The Verve’s Bitter Sweet Symphony, which topped out at Number 2 in 1997, takes the bronze medal with 773,000 sales. (no streams)
August 31, 20204 yr Author soooo...this is impossible to put sales to without knowing what figures they are using for the 94-96 period, neither can I rely on sales certs as they include streaming whilst this list doesn't...............sorry Here's the full list anyway with the 90s sales only (based on the higher multiplier) besides so you can see what has shifted the most downloads wise 01 Wonderwall Oasis 999k (sales given by OCC are now 1.4 million) 02 Don’t Look Back In Anger Oasis 761k (OCC now state 1.02 million) 03 Bittersweet Symphony The Verve 347k (773k sales) 04 D'you Know What I Mean Oasis 710k 05 Brimful Of Asha Cornershop 507k 06 Drugs Don't Work The Verve 384k 07 Whatever Oasis 594k 08 Country House Blur 645k 09 Roll With It Oasis 563k 10 Some Might Say Oasis 490k 11 Tender Blur 389k 12 If You Tolerate This, Your Children Will Be Next Manic Street Preachers 315k 13 Stand By Me Oasis 315k 14 Live Forever Oasis 281k 15 Song 2 Blur 129k 16 Lucky Man The Verve 186k 17 Common People Pulp 332k 18 Cigarettes & Alcohol Oasis 295k 19 A Design For Life Manic Street Preachers 268k 20 The Day We Caught The Train Ocean Colour Scene 206k 21 Alright Supergrass 283k 22 Champagne Supernova Oasis n/a 23 Supersonic Oasis 221k 24 All Around The World Oasis 223k 25 Just Looking Stereophonics 167k 26 Slight Return The Bluetones 214k 27 Mulder & Scully Catatonia 203k 28 Parklife Blur 88k 29 Beetlebum Blur 196k 30 Disco 2000 Pulp 264k 31 Shakermaker Oasis 231k 32 Road Rage Catatonia 151k 33 Why Does It Always Rain On Me Travis 117k 34 The Universal Blur 188k 35 The Bartender & The Thief Stereophonics 129k 36 Good Enough Dodgy 189k 37 Pick A Part That's New Stereophonics 146k 38 Hush Kula Shaker 201k 39 Hey Dude Kula Shaker 169k 40 Trouble Shampoo 181k 41 Girls & Boys Blur 109k 42 One To Another Charlatans 151k 43 You Stole The Sun From My Heart Manic Street Preachers 125k 44 Sorted For E's & Whizz/ Mis-shapes Pulp 295k 45 Walkaway Cast 120k 46 Hundred Mile High City Ocean Colour Scene 124k 47 Love Is The Law Seahorses 155k 48 Trash Suede 145k 49 Govinda Kula Shaker 138k 50 Wake Up Boo Boo Radley's 120k Some thoughts Some groups are notable for their absence: In the main I would suggest Space and Radiohead would have made the cut if they were included. The inclusion of Shampoo and Cornershop are contentious and as (personally) I wouldn't class anything post 1998 as Britpop then I would omit some of the tracks too. Sales wise: It's interesting they included the album track "Champagne Supernova" which is certified Platinum, yet omit the similarly certified "Half The World Away" or the gold certified "She's Electric". It is possible that the bulk of their sales stems from Streaming but I would imagine the bigger download sellers are now the bigger streamed songs when it comes to album tracks.
