Little Mix have only had one chart topping album so it may well be a bigger deal to them to get another one. They always release on busy weeks and just miss out! With Kylie she’d be also be setting a record if she gets the number one but if she just misses out I don’t think she’ll be quite as bothered by it. I’m happy for whoever gets it but I think Little Mix will end up getting it especially with HMV stores likely closing.

Kylie as of yet hasn’t really done a great deal of promotion. Little Mix seem super hungry for it at the minute, but that might change come release week when Kylie is everywhere. The radio deal to promote the album she has with the Bauer group (Magic, Kiss FM etc) might help too.

 

There’s nothing desperate in shifting albums - that’s the idea.

I don’t think you can critique Little Mix for the different covers as a supporting statement for Kylie who notoriously released a ridiculous amount of different types of cassettes / CDs / vinyls for Golden?

 

It’s a good tactic for artists with big fan bases like Kylie & LM to pull better sales.

It’s a big release for them - their first on their new label away from Simon. I imagine it would be a big deal to them to scoop it and that’s why they’re going the extra mile this time.

 

How it will pan out will be hard to tell until the midweeks start to come in.

I can't remember that many to be honest..... No more than anyone else.

Yeah I remember kylie having a quite a few version's for golden so I dont see anything wrong with LM doing something similar

Plus there are not that many fans that buy everything. They really don't make up large amounts of the sales

Well the times have changed and lots of artists issue multiple formats. Little Mix usually don’t release that many, but now that everyone else does, why shouldn’t they do the same and level the playing field?

I have no issue with multiple formats as it’s something different I suppose but just a different girl on the cover is a total cash grab a desperate just like it was years ago, no difference.

Sorry has anyone actually looked at how many versions and bundles Kylie has like the Amazon exclusive vinyl which is just a different colour so you can hardly make the argument that Little Mix are desperate.

 

Kylie’s team have tagged digital versions of the album onto single vinyls too!

 

Both artists are trying to get as many multiple formats to help sell the album in general I’m sure it’s the fans that are creating the ‘battle’ as such.

It's all a cash grab, though. If record companies didn't care about cash they'd chuck albums on streaming services and call it a day. You think people started putting out cassettes recently because there was demand for that format? No, its a cheap way to sell more albums and make more money. One Direction released albums with each member given their own cover, The Vamps have released albums with each member having their own 'edition', 5SOS have released cassettes as recently as this year with each member having their own version, etc, etc. I guess it only becomes desperate when it's Little Mix and they're up against your favourite though.

I think that's the point Dannyboy is making: it was seen as desperate when boybands did it but supposedly not so much now that Little Mix are doing it.
