I think it’s more that the general public aren’t too drawn to an entertainment show tailored around a specific artist unless it’s a housewife favourite like Gary Barlow. Those ‘... at the BBC’ shows they did a couple of years ago that had interviews and performances with a massive superstar always seemed to get below 2m.

Perhaps if it had more of an imaginative title and was marketed a bit differently as to what they were actually doing, it could have performed better. I’ve not watched it but from everything I’d seen I thought they were just following the usual process of 6 weeks of auditions and then creating bands at the end of it, but I see each episode is focused on making a specific band. That’s a big selling point that makes it stand out from other shows but it doesn’t seem to have been mentioned.

I wonder if the great reviews and word of mouth will help it get bigger viewing figures today / over the next few weeks?

I hope so

I do think that when this follows a bigger show like Strictly it could do better

From someone at PopJustice:

They literally gave it zero promo. That, and the fact the demographic will surely be watching it on iPlayer throughout the week/I’d love to know the majority of 20-somethings who were out until the 10pm curfew last night etc.

Live viewing figures are like the charts nowadays, they’re obsolete. It’s the week-long figures that need to be worried about.

Wow so The Chase did like 3m more nearly with an episode what was probably a repeat.

What did BGT do I know the direct clash was with The Chase but for comparison as that was the most similar show to The Search? I hope the ratings can increase i thought the fact it was new / different and the first reality show for a little while might’ve helped it out a little. There seemed to be a lot of talk about it on social media which I took as a good thing and the reviews were quite positive too.

Oh dear that’s awful, I’d be surprised if it’s not even lower than that tbh because it’s a Sunday!

Sunday night is actually a safer slot these days really (hence Doctor Who moving to Sundays a couple of years ago), people are less likely to be out on a Sunday night as it's a work night for most. I wouldn't expect a ratings bump but I could picture the Sunday ratings being more stable than the Saturday ones!

Really disappointing rating though. I hope positive word of mouth can help increase it for later episodes, but it's going to be an uphill battle.

Ouch :( It’s not even deserved, it was a great show overall and deffo better than the one episode I saw of X Factor: The Band. I don’t think you can blame the promotion, the only other shows I watch on BBC atm are EastEnders and the teatime news and I was constantly seeing trailers etc and it got BBC front page adverts. I don’t think it’s the girls fault, people are tired of these shows in general. The catch up figures will be important yeah but at 1.9m it’s still gonna be very low surely :/ Oh well...

How do TV ratings work. Is that 1.9m TVs are watching it but there could be like 6 people watching it on the same device but it counts as like one viewer?

Idk   maybe it’ll do well on iPlayer / a lot of people may have recorded it who knows.

These days on a Saturday night if I’m in I watch BBC shows live and record or watch the ITV ones on catch up so I can skip ads.

TV ratings are recorded weirdly, they monitor 12,000 people from various different backgrounds in the UK and work out the percentage of what it would be for the entire population.

It works fine for the main channels, but it's completely obsolete for niche ones

Apparently this has been extended a week now finishing November 1st?
They can't be too upset with the ratings if they're extending it. Maybe they seen a good response on iPlayer

Where is the confirmation of this?

I really don't think "lack of promo" can be used for this as an earlier comment said. I barely watch any TV but i've seen the ad for this so often whenever it is on! Also social media has been promoting it a lot too. I can see why the excuse has been made by fans to make up for the low figures, but I don't think it's warranted.

The numbers are disappointingly low but the format is great so let's see how it continues to do and whether viewers stick with it! It could have life in it yet~

Not surprised by those ratings at all. Don't think there'll be any improvement tonight either - can see it being between 1.6 and 1.8.

Well at least it was super entertaining. It’s a bummer the success won’t be added to that but I’ll try and ignore the ratings and just focus on the show.

Do we think the numbers could affect BBC’s support on the radio and eventually promo slots on the album’s release week? Like they’d be less inclined to support them?

I was thinking the same

Yes 100% in my opinion if ratings don’t pick up could be the beginning of the end.

Let’s face it Little Mix are nowhere near the force they used to be, The more flops or perceived flops they have, they will call it day ending in somewhat of a high.

That’s the way I see it anyway...Next year could well be the last album.
