Posted November 24, 20204 yr Never watched it properly but why all the dislike for Mrs Brown's Boys?, everyone on Twitter is furious about its upcoming Christmas special.
November 24, 20204 yr Just watch it for five minutes and you’ll know why. It is odd how it seems to always rate so well, even the repeats, when literally no one seems to like it.
November 24, 20204 yr I really don't get why people are so vocal about their dislike. It's easy enough to avoid, like any other TV show! Clearly it has its audience
November 24, 20204 yr Well it stinks up the Christmas schedule every year for one thing and seems to set the benchmark for other ‘comedy’.
November 24, 20204 yr Truly one of the worst shows ever created. It's not hard to ignore and I've mercifully only seen snippets here and there, my gripe is more than it exists AT ALL. It's painfully unfunny and trades on the most inane tropes and stereotypes and feels very much like it should be from a bygone era (probably the 1970's) when we didn't know better.
November 24, 20204 yr It’s so goddamn unfunny I'm gonna be that person I love it x It’s fitting you stan. x
November 24, 20204 yr It's very much simpleton humour that appeals to people that read The Sun and the Daily Mail.
November 24, 20204 yr For a show that’s so unpopular it’s viewing figures are very high. I can’t bare it though. Dated humour and horrendous OTT stereotyped acting  That laugh Mrs Brown does as well lives in my head rent free as well and I can’t ever unhear it whenever the show is mentioned it plays in my mind for hours after
November 24, 20204 yr Because it's viewed as a "low status", the sort of comedy that is popular with what would be unfairly viewed as the "underclass" of society. It's the sort of comedy that gets up the nose of the sort of people who write opinion columns at The Guardian, and is beloved by the sort of people who think that high art is the third page of The Sun newspaper. If you're comfortably middle-class, I am going to guess that you don't know anyone who's a fan of Mrs Brown's Boys because it's not being targeted at you. And there's evidence to back up my claims - a YouGov survey in 2018 shows that fans of Mrs Brown's Boys are more likely to be in the C2DE educational category, were more likely to vote for Brexit, and are more likely to not have a university education. More interestingly, and somewhat surprising to me, are that men are more likely to hate Mrs Brown's Boys than women, and that Labour/Tory voters are almost identical in their love/hate of the show (although this based on 2017 voting patterns, 2019 might have shifted this somewhat).
November 24, 20204 yr I used to watch it, was a bit funny when you first watch it but it got boring quickly. The likes of ITV2 Celebrity Juice seemed worse though for comedy, immature and low brow. Edited November 24, 20204 yr by JustSnakeyHoney
November 24, 20204 yr My Mam loves it. It was actually not as awful as I expected when I did watch some of it.
November 24, 20204 yr My parents love it. It's old-fashioned but it's not hate-filled, it's well-intentioned & good-natured. I don't go out of my way to watch it and never will, but I'm not frothing at the mouth that it's making some people happy for 30 minutes. The PC-inclined will obviously not be keen on the premise. Snooty intellectuals have always looked down on low-brow comedy, it's the equivalent of saying you liked Carry On films back in the day or Benny Hill, or in the US the Beverley Hillbillies & all the other "rural" sitcoms which were hugely popular with big ratings, but which all got cancelled by the networks cos advertisers wanted programmes that attracted high-earning professionals with wads of dosh. Me, I love some so-called low-brow comedies, nothing wrong with slapstick & fart-jokes, it's eternal and always will be. See My Top 50 Sitcoms for a right old mix of "high-brow" and "low-brow" (warning: Mrs Brown not included!). Personally I'd rather watch it than excruciating TV like Big Bother, I'm Not A-list Celebrity & Have Nothing To Say, Cricket-to-sleep-by, or the latest 15-minute My Perfect Wrinkled Eyes advert, but if folks like those, what the hey, not hurting anyone and providing pleasure :)
November 24, 20204 yr It also REALLY gets my goat how it won best comedy at the National Television Awards ahead of such truly great stuff like Derry Girls, Fleabag and Sex Education. This exemplifies why the public can't be trusted when it comes to voting on anything.
November 25, 20204 yr The early episodes and Christmas specials were good but the Christmas special last year was in particularly bad. Its harmless and good intentioned but its probably time to finish it up,i dont like the all round to mrs browns format at all,
December 15, 20204 yr The show has been renewed for specials up to 2026! :cheer:  It seems they've also agreed a clause which guarantees it will air on Christmas Day otherwise they don't have to make it...words fail me.
December 15, 20204 yr It's the perfect show for Brexit Britain so who can honestly say they're surprised? x
December 15, 20204 yr I tried watching it about a decade ago and I just found myself not laughing. My mum loves it though.
