I think Steps could actually take it!

It’s streaming way better than Gary..

Could Gary be more frontloaded?!

Close battle for sure!

nothing interesting except the 2 singles...

Well this is a lie.

I think Steps could actually take it!

How do we know it's streaming better than Gary!? We've had no streaming sales update have we?

Although its Worldwide when you hover over each track on Spotify, the new songs on Steps album are averaging 15,000 after day 1 while Gary's is averaging under 5K. So although not confirmed, they are doing better overall in streaming.

I'll take your word for it as I can't see anything when I hover over them  Good to hear anyway as both of them will be pretty much UK sales.

Their streaming is very weak though, albeit it better than Gary's, but I don't think it'll be enough to take the lead. Steps were also very frontloaded (and also aren't big sellers anyway whereas Gary is) so I think it's his to call. I don't see Steps losing their #2 position though unless Miley's streaming data ends up being HUGE and she overtakes, but doubtful.

of course Miley won't overtake, her 1st day streams are ok but nothing spectacular

Steps could easily take it if the label goes crazy ala Kylie and start releasing new vinyls out of the blue

I See Steps remaining at number 2, seems they are destined for that for another time. Would love a surprise number 1 from them though but either way it's great, never would have thought back in the 90s that by 2020 Steps would have achieved another 2 hit albums
So if Gary had 20k preorders as was reported, he only sold 3k on Friday which seems really low. I would be interested to see how much Steps sold on Friday vs what their preorders were, they seem to be ahead of Gary in both iTunes and Amazon. Gary is still probably going to take it given Graham Norton and Strictly, but I don’t think this album is going to be the blockbuster some people were predicting.

Both Apple and Spotify have album charts...

Also as above when you hover over you can see the streams..

For record, Miley's previous first week sales:

13,552 Breakout [#10]

20,675 The Time of Our Lives [#17]

17,954 Can't Be Tamed [#8]

30,759 Bangerz [#1]

10,024 Younger Now [#8]

She should definitely outdo Younger Now, which makes complete sense considering it's had a far bigger lead single. I don't think she was ever going to shift MASSIVE numbers, even the first week sale for Bangerz was the 2nd lowest of 2013's Q4 (beaten the week later by John Newman, who sold almost exactly 1k less) despite having two huge #1 singles on it. It's looking to be her second top 5 album which is great!

'Midnight Sky' hasn't even been that huge of a hit for people to expect super high numbers for the album, I'm not really understanding the reaction. If anything I'd say she has pretty decent numbers considering that's without any streaming included yet.
Both Steps and Gary on great sales, steps could outsell the opening of tears on the dancefloor. I expected much better sales for Miley Cyrus.

What formats are currently available? Steps are the cover story in the current issue of Music Week with a 5 page article. The article lists the formats that will be available:

When it comes to Steps, as Gemma Reilly-Hammond, BMG vice president marketing, UK, explains, “physical is clearly king”, with 88,000 of Tears On The Dance Floor’s sales being physical according to the OCC [with total album sales being 125,940]. Unsurprisingly, then, there is something of a royal roll-out of editions in store, with What The Future Holds set to be released on CD, vinyl (plus a limited edition transparent pink edition) and cassette, including a special collector’s box with five separate transparent pink solo cassettes with an intro from each band member

It is interesting to see how low sales is and I wonder how this even covers the promotion costs for Gary and Steps considering they are selling nowhere aside UK and possibly Ireland. If there is a tour (Gary tried the tour card before he postponed) money is there. To live from records sales tough is difficult for unknown artists and for the more established ones it does not cover one month of their expenses I assume
What did tears on the dancefloor do week 1?!

I agree and don't see Gary hanging round the top 5 very long up to Christmas.

37,624 of which: 36,525 were paid-for sales (1,110 on vinyl) and 1,099 were streams.

Miley also has only had 2-3 weeks of pre orders into comparison? I’m sure she will shift around 15k which would be a good result
