December 19, 20204 yr It's not just London though it's the whole country. I've been out tonight and there's been people out from Manchester, Leeds, Wakefield, Newcastle, Middlesborough etc. etc. all where I am. People just do not give a f***. Police came to the venue where I was at and the excuses were "it's been a tough year, have some compassion". The Government can't win, hospitality wants the money after a hard year. It's going to be a shite start to 2021 that's for sure. Yep just been reading Mumsnet with people saying they don't give a F any more and are keeping to their plans with some leaving tonight for one to two weeks with parents, children etc. Others having a right go, including Covid nurses saying to think of the extra cases in Jan.that they'll cause.
December 19, 20204 yr And besides, I doubt they are going to have people on the Scottish/English border at Coldstream waiting for people to pass through. Yeah I really wouldn’t bet on that if I were you. @1340414800699006977
December 19, 20204 yr Yeah I really wouldn’t bet on that if I were you. @1340414800699006977 Agreed. Nicola said "it's the law, not just advice"
December 19, 20204 yr I never thought I'd say this but I think we kind of have to look at what makes sense to us. I've self isolated for the past 10 days alongside my boyfriend so we can go home to see my Mum and Sister who also have both been self isolating - going in a car. I am avoiding seeing grandparents though. I think, personally, if you're being safe and not having a huge Christmas party and taking precautions etc, you can't be blamed. I get the need for further restrictions but to announce it this late when people have made plans, and set their expectations is ludicrous and going to have such a damaging effect on people's mental health.
December 19, 20204 yr I honestly cannot speak on what anyone else does after flying home for 8 days from Berlin, a major hotspot still, but I do agree with Jack. You’ve got to take the measures you think are most suitable for you and your situation while taking every precaution you reasonably can. Like if you’ve been on a quasi quarantine for this upcoming week then yeah we should be able to be go to see family and that. Sadly, there are too many people that aren’t following any form of sensible precautions
December 19, 20204 yr I know its one Christmas and all that but I can’t spend a day with people who have isolated since March after spending the last 16 weeks in close proximity with up to 150 teenagers a day from different families where I don’t know where they’ve been or what they’ve been doing. Once again, it feels like the government value literally everyone’s health over my own.Exactly this, it's absolutely fine for me to spend weeks on end in close proximity with hundreds of different people at work because schools are absolutely fine to keep open (because of childcare essentially) even to the point where there are several confirmed cases going through school but I can't see my family over Christmas because they announce this bullshit a day before I'm about to drive home? Despite the fact I've tested negative this week. Nah f*** off.

December 19, 20204 yr Y'all can keep your new strain please. UK please selfisolate from the rest of the world We can’t self-isolate from ourselves so fat chance that’s happening I’m afraid
December 19, 20204 yr Absolutely gutted but it is what is. Luckily I live with my sister so I have somebody to be with and we are going to go to our Nan so she’s not on her own. She’s within our bubble (not sure if that’s allowed in Tier 4) but she’s one of the vulnerable and lonely and I just can’t leave her on her own. She’s only round the corner! She has spent most of the year on her own, her partner has gone into a home and as she’s not immediate family she hasn’t even been able to visit him. I am conflicted and wondering if we are doing the right thing but I just can’t see her on her own for the whole time. I have taken all the precautions and won’t be leaving the house until we go. Will be weird having the first Christmas without Mum being there. She’s pretty devastated as will be the first Christmas without us all together but it is what it is. I think she’s worried it will be Nan’s last Christmas but she is forty minutes away from us and it’s just not worth the risk for them to come down. I’m pretty gutted I won’t see my little nephew either, he’s just turned 3 so it’s the first Christmas he’s has a slight understanding of what’s going on and was looking forward to him opening his presents as I’ve spoiled him rotten but will hopefully be able to see him at some point when the restrictions are lifted whenever they may be. But it is what is, and lots of people are in the same predicament. I think the worse thing is that it’s been left so late and we were given false hope. But I suppose we just have to try and make the best of it, I feel for anybody that is left on their own. I think this has just been badly mismanaged.
December 20, 20204 yr It does seem ridiculous that the government force teachers and the likes to work with children as education is so important but then they can see family at Xmas. Think at this stage people have to make their own decisions on what’s safe for them and the likes. It is funny seeing a lot of people rebel though compared to their views back in the first lockdown. It’s clear Boris is using the old ‘new strain’ advice from Witty and co as an excuse to have to announce new rule changes tonight.
December 20, 20204 yr If I were the Conservative Government, I would have created future projections, drawn up a number of different, clearly communicated and demarcated scenarios well in advance, made the public aware of the consistent rules in the event of all such scenarios and not deviated from them. If fricking Eurovision can do it... I would not have... accused the Labour leader days before of playing politics and trying to cancel Christmas, created numerous plans on the fly and maybe retract it later if there's enough public outcry, let members of my staff flout the rules as they please, shovelled money to my friends "to fix it"... all very much on them. If I wanted to, I could go to a nightclub for Christmas, that's not my speed, so I shan't be, but the difference in how different governments have handled it is striking and the UK seems to have the most amateurish government of them all. It's this determination to keep the schools open that is so worrying to me (and why I can't see this cancelling Christmas thing solving anything other than add more chaos and ill-feeling before the schools come back in January), they were some of the first things to shut when it first began spreading in Asia and some of the last things to re-open.
December 20, 20204 yr We can’t self-isolate from ourselves so fat chance that’s happening I’m afraid :gaga: Well at least the Dutch government is trying to help y'all self isolate by banning flights. I'm sure it's more to make people think they're trying, as I'm sure it won't help
December 20, 20204 yr Wife's employer, Tier 4, texted her saying he doesn't know whether to still go to his parents in Berkshire on Wed. They were taking everything to cook there. Both are 90's and have dementia so they'd have no dinner. He hates breaking rules but he thinks they may still go. It's difficult though. Lots of families will have this dilemma. December 20, 20204 yr Hancock on Sky now saying they couldn't have predicted the new strain and it being more transmittable when Boris announced the Xmas plans two weeks ago. He says it's unfortunate but that's how it is. No plans whatsoever to fully close schools. Edited December 20, 20204 yr by CHRIS-TMAS
December 20, 20204 yr Hancock on Sky now saying they couldn't have predicted the new strain and it being more transmittable when Boris announced the Xmas plans two weeks ago. He says it's unfortunate but that's how it is. No plans whatsoever to fully close schools. There was plenty of evidence before this week that the five-day lifting of most restrictions was a terrible idea. Barely a day went by without various medical experts saying so. Hancock is just using the new strain as an excuse.
December 20, 20204 yr People would have been ok with a smaller Christmas if it hadn’t been dropped on them less than a week before the day. I seriously doubt anyone had planned a ‘big’ Christmas anyway, just a chance to see some relatives they hadn’t seen all year. If I’d been told at the end of November that Christmas would be restricted, I’d have been upset but have had time to get used to the idea. It’s this last minute changing when people had organised themselves within the rules. This is just incompetence and pretty unfeeling from this government. I still see everyone blaming the public with I generally feel is unfair. The government should not be left off the hook here. I don’t know about anywhere else in the UK but I see people wearing masks everywhere, there are no parties where I live, etc. It’s just been badly managed since we left lockdown the first time.
December 20, 20204 yr Without being hyperbolic, I'm starting to think the only thing stopping widespread civil war from breaking out is that it is jolly chilly outside.
December 20, 20204 yr Reports saying tier 4 restrictions could be in place until the vaccine is rolled out. Isn't that til Summer?! 😭 Or even later?!?
