September 13, 20213 yr Another absolute mess now with the JCVI not recommending vaccinating 12-15 yos but the CMOs are. I'm sorry but who are the actual 'experts' here? And regardless of the outcome, the fact they faffed about all summer and not actually made a hard decision before schools returned pretty much sums it all up.
The JCVI looked at one factor only - which was the human risk to the individual. The CMOs have assessed against other criteria e.g. time missed off school due to covid, longer term effects associated to catching covid etc. and also the fact many other countries are vaccinating 12-15 year olds, so they have a range of real data to go off too. Pretty sure there is also good evidence coming out that the mRNA vaccines are much better against stopping the spread. I can understand why it has taken time as it is not an easy decision to make.
September 13, 20213 yr Think it’s just Pfizer-BioNTech that’s MHRA approved, but Moderna was also greenlit in the EU and the US for that age group Both companies are currently studying the effects in younger kids too with it expected that results for 5+ from Pfizer in the US is expected this month and Modernas a month later. Shortly after the under 5s results are expected to come in from both before the end of the year so we could have a 6months+ campaign approved by the time the new year ticks over (although how many over 5s by Xmas that won’t have had it remains to be seen) Schools are absolute disease factories right now, inoculating kids will help to kill off one of the final fronts in the Battle against unchecked spreading. I am all for adding Covid to the vaccine schedule for kids
September 13, 20213 yr I completely agree that they should be vaccinated -this will cause a massive row and there are reports about some schools being targeted by angry parents and anti vaxx campaigners. Going to get nasty.

Going to get nasty. They should be vaccinated, but there's no way it should be done in school. It should be opt-in as it is for adults and done at normal vaccination centres.
September 13, 20213 yr Logistically, it has to make more sense to do it in school. If it has to be done outside school hours, it will take ages.
September 13, 20213 yr Schools are well versed in running vaccinations too. I got a few at school over the years. Parents can withhold consent still but this is an efficient way to do it
September 13, 20213 yr Schools could easily conduct the vaccinations, we already do. And we already have a small pocket of kids that don’t get any vaccine so that wouldn’t be an issue either (although we actually had crazy parents protesting masks in schools the other day even though they aren’t mandated.) We have almost half the upper school off with Covid right now and some staff too. It’s everywhere. I honestly have no idea how I still haven’t got it.
September 14, 20213 yr I honestly have no idea how I still haven’t got it. Vaccine? Natural immunity? More people in the country haven't had it than have had it. Edited September 14, 20213 yr by common sense
September 14, 20213 yr Vaccine? Natural immunity. More people in the country haven't had it then have had it. I suppose I was one of those people that hadn't had it, then had it.
September 14, 20213 yr Vaccine? Natural immunity? More people in the country haven't had it than have had it. I know but less people in the world are being forced into crowded environments on a daily basis than those who are. Most staff at school are double vaccinated and still managing to get it so I’m just surprised I’ve dodged it so far.
September 14, 20213 yr I am kinda surprised at the length of the booster programme, seems like this is the only way to get through the winter and suppose it will give us some great data for how to cope in 2022. Can certainly see the "Plan B" tools implemented by November time. Fingers crossed we have a mild autumn, no surprise we have had a relatively warmish start to September and the case numbers have seemingly dropped.

September 14, 20213 yr Perhaps you have been a symptomatic? Surely would have come up in at least one of the many twice weekly LFD tests I’ve been doing for the last 6 months.
September 15, 20213 yr Ah didn’t realise you were testing too, you have been lucky to avoid it though!

September 15, 20213 yr Ah didn’t realise you were testing too, you have been lucky to avoid it though! Yeah we have to do them twice a week. Well, we don’t have to but they’d like us to. Just about to do another one, wish me luck!
