October 23, 20213 yr https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-58992090 Russia and Romania should be added to the UKs travel red list I think, covid is spreading a lot in those two countries due to low vaccination acceptance levels and they are perfect breeding grounds for new variants.
November 7, 20213 yr I found the headline article really hilarious although it shows how scary the Republican right is becoming: https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/20...-covid-vaccines
November 7, 20213 yr The soon to be new mayor of Berlin is suggesting that the ability to chose between 2G and 3G for hospitality should end and they should be mandated to use 2G rules (2G = Vax & Recovered only. 3G add tested) but while I do agree that this is a good step, (personally I’d banish the disease monkeys from everywhere and make them get their shopping delivered from a Rewe driver in a hazmat suit), I would far rather see hospitality actually enforce the 2/3G rules. I was out Friday night and not one bar we were at asked for 3G proof. None asked for contact tracing either. Both of which are supposed to be a legal requirement. No point in having a measure if it’s just widely ignored https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-58992090 Russia and Romania should be added to the UKs travel red list I think, covid is spreading a lot in those two countries due to low vaccination acceptance levels and they are perfect breeding grounds for new variants. The way you say that implies that the UK is some virus free utopia that has zero risk of spawning a new variant, when the reality is that the UK is one of the highest risk countries on earth for a new variant
November 10, 20213 yr What's going on in Europe/Germany Silas? Looked like everything was fine there, but seen a few articles pop up about exploding case rates, especially in the unvaccinated. Not sure if it is more of an East/West Europe thing though? As seems the problem is in East Germany and looks like it's exploding in Eastern Europe too. Still think the UK has made vast errors and could do more, seeing as we're likely to be running 200-400 deaths a day now, but I do hope the mix of boosters and natural immunity from infection will get us through the winter.
November 11, 20213 yr Europe is a mixed bag. Places like Spain and Italy are holding strong, Sweden is too. Real strict enforcement of a vaccine passport seems to be linked to holding lower rates. See also France here. Heading east and it’s a bit more relaxed in terms of messaging and requirements and the colder weather has just bit in the past 4 weeks and the numbers have exploded. In Germany a district in Bavaria is so bad it got a purple rating from the RKI which is a new colour they’ve added beyond pink to suggest it’s got a 4 figure 7 day rate. Saxony, Thuringia, Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg Are by far the worst states but the rate is sky rocketing everywhere. We’re hitting new records. It’s quite annoying because we had been looking like the Delta wave was staying under reasonable control here too but the caretaker gov and general complacency and a lack of enforcement of the tools we do have. Caretaker state gov in Berlin had just made a 2G mandatory but I still firmly believe that actual enforcement would do more for our issues than swapping from 3G to 2G (but don’t mind the swap). Lot of people are saying the ending of free testing has been a big contributor and hasn’t boosted the vax rates and the new federal coalition gov that’s still negotiating has agreed to bring free testing back which night be helpful No lockdown is the mantra. Let’s hope it holds
November 12, 20213 yr Netherlands becomes first Western country to reimpose a lockdown - it's fairly strict with closure of bars, restaurants and non essential shops. I know they have been pretty crappy with their covid policy but still a bit worrying. Their double vax rate is pretty good at 69% Edited November 12, 20213 yr by Smint

It's gonna be a 3 week soft lockdown with bars, restaurants and stores closing at 7PM. That is far from a strict lockdown
November 12, 20213 yr Guardian - ah I didn't see the 7pm at first. That said no on site sales after 7pm must be pretty devastating for bars and restaurants after the previous 18 months...
November 18, 20213 yr It’s not going so great here but at least Berlin is in line with the Federal average for once  The Berlin Health Minister announced that boosters can be given after 5 months in Berlin instead of 6 so I’ve just booked in to have mine in December before I come home for Xmas which is great
November 19, 20213 yr What’s going on in Germany, figures seem to be getting out of control there and in Europe over the past few months!
November 19, 20213 yr What’s going on in Germany, figures seem to be getting out of control there and in Europe over the past few months! Looks like it's happening most places at the moment. Strangely it looks like the Mediterranean countries aren't getting hit quite as bad, so it could be weather dependent? I know the likes of Spain, Portugal and Italy have a slightly higher vaccine rate so that could play a part too. In the UK we have had our highest daily figure for a month, after it looked as if cases nose dived. Looks like the current spread is in primary schools. Looks like it might be a bumpy winter for us all. Not sure these lockdowns for the unvaccinated will work either that are been mooted in some European countries either. Just sounds like a great way to increase the hatred levels of anti-vaxxers. I think most people now who aren't vaccinated are more concerned about being anti-establishment than anti-vax.
November 19, 20213 yr What’s going on in Germany, figures seem to be getting out of control there and in Europe over the past few months! It’s f***ing cold, so everyone is moving back indoors and it spreads easier. That and a lack of hospitality places enforcing the 2/3G rules means disease monkeys, sorry „unvaccinated people“, are allowed in to spread covid without the checks and balances on the selfish behaviour that were supposed to be in place. It’s in part a plague of the unvaxxed and also there’s a lot of breakthrough infections here in Berlin because people under 40 apparently cannot imagine their lives unless it involves a minimum of 3 nights partying every week. Basically everyone forgot there was a pandemic still raging because it got in the way of their lives and they’re too selfish to care about anyone other than themselves.

Imagine being in a worse place this year than last year, somewhat impressive actually. Agreed about your second point, just look at Austria. Anyone not jabbed there will especially be thinking what's the point now given a full lockdown for everyone has been reintroduced. Very interested to hear about how they plan to make it mandatory next year, is that just banning certain people from life (which they tried for like 2 days lol) or forcibly entering into people's houses and jabbing them.

It's not good, I don't think the UK (or even Germany for that matter) will get to that stage. But it looks pretty clear a booster every year is going to be needed unless 3 doses end up giving a longer immune response. I think as Silas rightly pointed out, while the vaccine does not step people from getting sick, it sure as hell limits people being hospitalised. I'm just not sure how we can get through to that small portion of the world, especially now as in their eyes they are right in that the vaccine does not work.. (which of course, is complete bollocks).
November 19, 20213 yr It's a bit concerning though that Gibraltar, the most vaccinated place in the world, has cancelled Christmas again!
November 19, 20213 yr It's a bit concerning though that Gibraltar, the most vaccinated place in the world, has cancelled Christmas again! Suppose a lot of that is to do with tourism. I think the strain on the health service is telling us (across the 1st world) that it is not fit for purpose with an aging population. Not sure there is any easy way to solve this. Be interesting to see if the continual high level of UK infections help prevent a lockdown, along with loads of the unvaccinated hopefully having a small amount of temporary natural immunity, either way, gonna be a bumpy one.
November 19, 20213 yr Well I go back to the speeding/drunk driving analogy. People who do a certain action or refuse to do one which endangers and potentially kills others should be sanctioned. Noone sane enjoys punishing the anti vaxxers (well some may do) but this pandemic is a complete bugger and the more people are vaxxed the less damage and deaths it will cause.
November 20, 20213 yr The NHS app has now been updated so that it includes a record of booster jabs. Let's leave aside the fact that it should have been able to cope with an unlimited number of jabs in the first place. This may well mean that people who don't bother to get a booster will find at some point that they can no longer get a Covid pass which they may need to travel abroad.
November 20, 20213 yr That’s already the case for some countries. For example Austria only considers you to be fully vax for 9 months unless you have the booster

I’m not sure it’s all down to the weather as the countries in the Med have poor weather from here on in anyway!
