Those album sales are surely the lowest ever in the 2nd last week before Christmas?

Terrible album sales as people said, lockdown is lifted so more people in the shops I thought woulda meant more physical sales but maybe not.

 

Hope Kid Cudi can remain in the top 40 to represent the new album release!

Does anyone know what Cardigan opened with? I know it debuted at 6 and Willow is expected to debut higher but I want to compare the sales between the two...

 

Hoping Evemore can clear 30k! It easily would have if physicals were out.

'cardigan' did 35.3k in its first week - there is a pinned thread which has the sales of the top 10 singles and albums in every week of the year!

 

It was on 17.4k in its Tuesday update so it appears 'willow' might actually be doing slightly better? (Although not sure if there may have been more missing data in that update etc.) 'folklore' by comparison was on 22.6k in that update so this album is definitely doing slightly worse than that but not by a huge amount.

I feel like Willow will have more longevity than Cardigan did. For some reason it sounds more radio friendly than Cardigan does (love both obviously).

Lockdown is lifted and there are a lot of people who will come out and shop... but there are also a LOT of people who still won't leave the house for their own reasons, even though the restrictions are lifted in places. It's not going to be "normal service" until the vaccine has been distributed on a broader scale.

And obviously physical albums as presents are only thing for older demography/hard core music fans these days.

Those album sales are truly dire for 10 days before Xmas.

True but there seems plenty out in the shops in the place I’m from! Think it’s more that less younger people especially are buying cds

Well, yes and no. I think Ball & Boe's sales are a lot worse than what they could be, for example. Their target audience are primarily the audience who are likely to be "high risk" and self-isolating more. Especially in cities in a higher tier. This close to Christmas, I think Ball & Boe (even with declining sales) would be on about double what they're at atm.

 

EDIT: But ultimately it's so hard to judge, just coz of how unique the situation is.

The thing is the people purchasing at this time of year will be from all backgrounds FOR the ball/Boe fans rather than them going out and buying themselves.

 

Anyone not think Robbies albums under performing? He had his big promo at the weekend there and yet he’s a non mover plus the new singles getting a lot of airplay!
