I think the 80s was the peak for classic xmas tunes.

What are your favourites from the decade?

For me it has to be: Wham!, Pogues then Shaky (with Band Aid a close 4th) - all utter classics!

Shaky for me. Just so catchy and a classic. Then Mariah, Wham and Pogues.

Shaky has really grown in popularity over the last few years, quite right too.

Oddly an example of a classic that got to number 1 at the time haha

Mariah was the 90s :P

Mine is The Pogues, Jona Lewie, Bing&Bowie (released in 82), Bucks Fizz, The Pretenders, Waitresses, Queen, Shaky, aled Jones, Bruce Springsteen & Chris de Burgh!

Anne Charleston and Ian Smith - Old Fashioned Christmas

Twiggy - Winter Wonderland

Fairytale of New York is my #1, then Pretenders-2000 Miles

Harold and Madge 😂

Chris Rea gives me the most ongoing pleasure without me rolling my eyes and saying "not again!" every time it comes on radio.

Other than that, tracks that don't get played so much, like Freiheit or Jona Lewie, or Happy New Year if we're stretching the definition to include tracks that were out at Xmas which are associated with the Xmas period.

Shaky's is my favourite by a long way from the 80's. It's very cheesy but it's so joyful and I'm pleased it's gone back up in popularity again!

Shaky for me, love it. I like Wham! and Band Aid about equally and then The Pogues is fine but not something I listen to out of choice.

I actually play Shaky's 1990 Christmas song, The Best Christmas Of Them All, a lot too.

Also really like Waitresses - Christmas Wrapping, Band Aid II (!), ABBA's Happy New Year, Freiheit's Keeping The Dream Alive and A Winter's Tale by David Essex. I've also been known to play Mistletoe and Wine by Cliff!

The Pretenders followed by The Waitresses and then Shakin Stevens are my favourite 80s Christmas songs.

This is the one circumstance I don’t mind a bit o’Cliff either!

GD your the first person who’s stated they like Band Aid 2!!
I love Band Aid 2, prefer the original but love 2 in a different way.Band Aid, Shaky and the Pogues are my fave 80s Christmas songs.

Im not that religious but I actually prefer Cliff's Saviours Day to Mistletoe and Wine: the panpipe production is nice!

I also prefer Saviour’s Day and actually listen to it a lot. My sister was born when it was #1!

Santa’s List wasn’t bad either from 2003.

The Millennium Prayer, however, was unbearable.

Definitely has to be Wham! I recently read in GM's biography that the song came to him while he was watching Match Of The Day with Andrew Ridgeley in early '84 and he ran upstairs to record it on whatever device he had so he didn't forget it... and to think its outlived him now. :o

Other faves from the 80s: Christmas Wrapping, Do They Know It's Christmas? and Fairytale Of New York.
