You're the only person using the term groundbreaking? People are just saying its a great song and the number are showing many agree

I’m referencing people on Twitter her fans! Not anyone on here.

I gave a general opinion and once again I get jumped on because my opinion goes against the general consensus.

F you all.

Trust the middle aged men to be pressed about a young female star breaking through. Sad :(

Middle aged?

Since when was 28 middle aged?

Wow just wow!

Also, stop putting words into my mouth when my favourite artists are mostly young females!

Middle aged?

Since when was 28 middle aged?

Wow just wow!

Log off and go and get some fresh air, this is a shambles.

It's just a song tbh, these days practically no one cares about who is #1. In fact most people wont even know who is #1, it's not worth getting agitated over. Besides the best days of the chart have long gone anyway.

I’m ready for warning number 2

At least SZA has gone top 10.

I agree totally! Sweet Melody is nothing groundbreaking nor have I ever claimed it to be? Your point?

What I’m saying is those that are claiming it’s a massive breakthrough in pop are deluded.

I'm not sure anyone has said that? The song has broke through massively but I think it's just a good pop song that's got caught in the hype. These massive hits don't need to do anything different or groundbreaking, they're just very popular and in the right place at the right time.

I was making reference to comments on Twitter / Instagram where the Hype about the song is in overdrive saying it’s groundbreaking etc etc...

Half of what I said was misinterpreted anyway as usual.

I’m not saying songs have to be groundbreaking to be a hit but I gave my opinion on whether it deserved to get over 600k streams..Based on the songs quality. It was only my opinion!

Wow haven’t heard the song yet but nice to see something fresh breaking through for the new year to tune into the chart on Friday!! Least sales will be back above 50k and this could well be our biggest seller of 2021, long way to go though!

Laroi #2 is amazing to see

I've given Olivia's song 5 listens over last couple of days and maybe I'm just a cynical old bitch (31) but it seems like a really contrived copy and paste job from a million other songs of the same ilk. Nice production though, and will probably be one of the biggest sellers of the year.

I think regardless of how huge she is smashing, the generation of musicians coming up will find it easier to chart very well but will find it much harder to become household names. E.g. Selena Gomez, Bieber, Rihanna etc. barely made top 10 when they blew up but everyone instantly knew of their names.

This girl is smashing like there is no tomorrow and nobody even knows who she is. It seems that all you need now is a niche base who really mess with what you do and then allow word of mouth to take over, and you can do really well on the charts.

Edited by Jaffery13

You know what is nice to see is female artists smashing it!

Maybe pop is actually going to be bigger this year and it’s all turning back around.

I was making reference to comments on Twitter / Instagram where the Hype about the song is in overdrive saying it’s groundbreaking etc etc...

Half of what I said was misinterpreted anyway as usual.

But you're not on Twitter/Instagram atm, so making references to those platforms without telling us that you're referencing them is gonna get confusing? How are we to know you're referencing Insta/Twitter more than the forum you're posting on?

great to see a song doing big numbers again and by a newcomer, but I don't get the song at all, seems rather odd that it's blown up to such an extent.

I just thought it was fairly obvious I was talking in general terms of the songs hype, I didn’t quote anyone on here.

That’s what’s happened though and then I get riled when people put words into my mouth or assume I’m anti young females breaking through when I do nothing but support female music artists.

It’s my fault anyway I’m not very objective so I come across like a total w*nker!!

To me it's because you are bringing these opinions to our forum which often don't reflect the general membership of our site. A lot of the stan Twitter world is very full on and can give the impression of blind support without reason behind it. When you respond to these opinions, but at the same time bring them to the conversations in these threads for the first time, you can come across as rather defensive and hyperbolic because that's how those communities interact, which is something that usually doesn't go down well on here! Like you disagree with their opinions, but you bring that energy over here too, would probably be better to stay more linear or deliberately refer to what you're reacting to. We prefer to be a bit more logical and converse rather than battle!
