Are we concerned that threads like this might send the wrong message to membership by promoting quantity over quality? When I was a co-admin of a forum, I used to do end of year award threads but the recognition would be geared towards quality. For example, we would have awards such as "Thread of the year for most thought provoking discussion", "Member of the year", and this would typically be someone who consistently contributes in a manner that is conducive to positive and engaging discussion and adherence to forum values. Things of that nature ..

My concern with the above is potentially encouraging the off-topic one liners that don't contribute to or foster quality discussion.

No.

Are you able to articulate your feelings further so we might better understand why quality discussion might not be important to you?

We had that in December.

We've published posting figures for years and they're something that people like to see.

Cooper - can I ask, is there a constant need for you to border on passive aggressive interrogation? Here's the pattern at the moment. You suggest something after a limited time on the site > We say it's not necessary per se > You twist it into a need for us to take the suggestion on board and try and dictate what the site actually needs and wants, and criticising the way it's being run. We have been open to at least discussing your viewpoints but the fact your responses always nearly read as "tell us why you're failing your members" is insulting. If you have a point to raise, stop being so snarky about it.
Have you come to contribute or criticise?

My apologies if you aren't seeing my contributions as anything beyond criticism. I'm just trying to understand why we might be encouraging post count over quality discussion. Should we be recognizing and encouraging others to respond with the jokey one-liners just so they can grow their post count and be awarded? It's a sincere question.

Take a gander at the little pictures under our profilw pictures on the ledt. Click on one to see.
I feel like you're not suggesting the idea but actually making a case for 100% enforcement and won't take any other response. I like your passion for thinking outside of the box, but the repetition of you acting like your idea is the only way forward is not the mindset to have. The management DO have the will and the say so on whether it goes forward so please stop acting so defensive.

Which people like to see this and why? It seems very superficial and void of any true meaning if there's not some form of substance to go along with it. If someone's primary contribution to the forum in calendar year 2020 is "LOLZ" and they post this 15k times, do we want to recognize this individual at year's end and encourage them to continue with this posting style? It's a serious question.

Well, given the time commitment it would take to do that, then yes! It'd be an interesring tidbit of information for future buzzjack quizzes.

To answer your question, the people that like the fun and superficiality of fluff stuff? I can't say we all have the same zest for serious topics, I understand you came from a site where debating suicide and the death of someone for decades was perhaps a main focus, but over here - where we discuss chart music which inherently leads to stats, numbers etc. - it's actually a VERY apropos event. Your dismissal of what people want to see is unnecessary and unwelcome.

Cooper, some advice from me. If you are genuinely a new poster (which I have my doubts about), I think you should ease yourself in gently by posting in other parts of the forum first. If you are a Nirvana fan, you might like our Indie, Rock and Alternative forum. Or maybe you are interested in politics or sport which have their own sections. Coming straight into the lounge with all guns blazing is not the best way to go about things for a new member.
Statistics are good content and useful information to have. It does not need to detract from any other content and appearing at the top of this list as a poster is value-neutral, not something you want to win.

We are multi-faceted individuals who can enjoy both thought-provoking discussion and light-hearted one liners, you know. People have raised their concerns and we can organically move on, using common sense and a mod team who are willing to listen, rather than imploding the community with prison-like moderation. This constant criticism is really draining to read and it's particularly rude when coming from someone who doesn't know the ins and outs of this community at all.

...bring on more stats :cheer:

I for one am happy to have a site villain again!

I never could tell with Cropsy & Carol.

My two cents on this Cooper, with respect, it's kind of bizzare to me to come into an established community of people, critique pretty much everything in eyeline, and suggest that nothing here is working contrary to pretty much the position of everybody already existing in the community.

Ideas are grand, but maybe read the room a little?

To give some context to the boost in posting figures that 2020 saw (thanks, world), people such as King Rollo, Doctor Blind and ManicKangaroo posted more in 2020 compared to 2019 and are still managing to fall.

I'm concerned as to where I end up! According to the posters I should be on for a new peak for finally 'showing up' on the site

the numbers seem great to me though! shows the forum is active and thriving!
