Finally a girlgroup in the best group category. About time. Now give them that award for a full redemption.

Disappointed for "Sweet Melody", but the timing wasn't right since more songs sold more. Maybe next year.

We need another iconic performance there too.

I keep forgetting Single is based on the best selling, which is annoying, but I get it. :(

They were never gonna get an album nomination so I'm not too bothered about that, I'm just focusing on the getting the Best British Group win! Coz they deserve it so, so much and even if they were up for single, I'd want them to win Group more as I feel like it'd be a real moment in BRITs history.

If they end up performing, they're in with a shot of winning. If they're not performing, I think it's fair to assume they won't get it.

How far outside the best UK sellers was Sweet Melody?
Quite far, I think... I recall browsing through the best selling singles of 2020 thread around here a few weeks ago and when I got to the 10th one it was still near 700,000/800,000...
Spice Girls were nominated in 1997- but I agree that not giving it to them at the time was absolutely a mess considering what they achieved.

Little Mix have longevity on their side too and the fact that award shows are slowly realising they are very male and white oriented, so hopefully Little Mix should be within a decent chance.

It's sad though that their gender/race may be what gets them it but not the fact that they genuinely deserve the award for their records/achievements/talent/acclaim and had a better year than any of their peers.

I was referring to the achievements of the year they were not nominated... I thought it was ridiculous they didn't win best newcomer or best group in 1997 too I mean seriously!?!?

I agree re Little Mix however I think if they win it they are the rightful winners this year anyway!

Their competition:

Best British group

Bicep

Biffy Clyro

Little Mix

The 1975

Young T & Bugsey

Ugh. It's gonna be The 1975 again, isn't it? 😔

I think if they're not announced as peformers there's no way they're winning...

I agree. Songs released in Q4 - unless Ed/Adele kinda massive - are at a real unfair advantage nowadays with streaming :(

I think they should average their first 4 weeks or their highest 3/4 weeks of sales at the time or something.

I've never understood why the rules are different for the British Single category. Why is it only that one that is based on sales data?

I'm not a fan of 'Sweet Melody' but it pretty clearly deserved a nomination here, I thought they might bend the rules to allow it in but I guess not.

I think because it’s hosted by Capital- who aren’t necessarily playing the most critically successful music- like the rest of the awards judges for- but the most popular!
