March 31, 20214 yr Young T & Bugsy a British Group nomination. AND a Best Single nom?? WHAT THE f*** AHAHAHAHAHA
March 31, 20214 yr Author Childish Gambino is an odd choice, I forgot he even released anything last year!
March 31, 20214 yr 4 women in AOTY :cheeseblock: All great albums 😍 Well, Lianne La Havas isn’t winning female solo artist x
March 31, 20214 yr Wow the female domination in AOTY :o I've not heard the Arlo Parks or J Hus records but love all of the Celeste, Dua and Jessie ones <3
March 31, 20214 yr Author I hope they don't just give International Group to BTS by default every year (as they do release albums annually) so their fans don't kick off...
March 31, 20214 yr Chloe and Halle should have got nominated for International group disappointed they got snubbed there.
March 31, 20214 yr Rina missed album :( Agreed about CxH for best international group too. Pleased for Little Mix getting Best Group! Was kinda hoping they would flip the single rule eligibility a bit due to the times, but it is what it is!
March 31, 20214 yr Author Rina missed album :( Rina unfortunately wasn't eligible as her album didn't reach the top 40! :/
March 31, 20214 yr That album category is a mess  And Miley and Cardi over Gaga? They are just nominating the potential performers it seems, just like EMAs and VMAs.
March 31, 20214 yr Sam, Kylie & Gaga deserved better..... Basically when Sam declined the male categories the Brits downright shut them out entirely..
March 31, 20214 yr omg Jessie pull through!!! Was not expecting an album nod but absolutely deserved! Great to see Arlo Parks noms too!
March 31, 20214 yr Pretty good set of nominations on the whole here! They have no chance of winning but it's excellent to see Run The Jewels getting some acknowledgement in the International Group category (and great to see Fontaines D.C. and HAIM on there too, though fully expecting it to be one of the other two who wins). Also thrilled at Bicep getting 2 nominations and happy that UK rap is being well represented between the J Hus AOTY nomination and 3 of the 5 British Male noms being rappers (plus Young T & Bugsey with the Breakthrough nom although that definitely feels like it is a year late considering both of their big hits were in 2019, albeit one of them having a second wind in 2020). Interesting to note that the BRITs are treating Tame Impala as a solo artist this year after giving him / them the nomination (and win) for International Group in 2016 - I don't think anything has changed between then and now with regards to the 'membership' of Tame Impala (it's always been essentially a solo project of Kevin Parker but with additional touring 'members' making it ambiguously either a group or a solo act). Maybe the difference is just that they're not able to tour at the moment. Also interesting that AOTY is nearly the exact mirror image of what it was last year - 2020 had the 5 British Male nominations exactly line up with AOTY, 2021 has 4 of the 5 British Female nominations in AOTY. Really happy to see Jessie Ware making the list and I'd love for her to pull off an upset win somehow. It'll probably be Dua though, but that would be good as well. x (btw... no Laura Marling? are they ok? xx)
March 31, 20214 yr Does anyone know the exact criteria of how Intl. Female artist has been chosen over the years? I would have expected Lady Gaga to be nominated over most of these nominees considering Chromatica's success and how huge Rain On Me was in the UK. Edited March 31, 20214 yr by alohomora
March 31, 20214 yr Does anyone know the exact criteria of how Intl. Female artist has been chosen over the years? The shortlists are just decided by industry insiders voting on them. If there were exact 'criteria' that could be checked by anyone then we'd all know the nominations ahead of time and there'd be no point in revealing them. (except for the British Single which I believe is always just the 10 highest selling eligible songs so that one is highly if not entirely predictable ahead of time)

Nominees and winners voted by the people in the industry?
March 31, 20214 yr Lady Gaga is a very unfair snub, especially when Cardi B's there and she only put out 2 songs in the last year, and Billie Eilish didn't put out an album in the last year either, did she do something to piss the BRITs off I wonder.
March 31, 20214 yr Probably not gonna watch, the way these awards shows are calculated and the industry politics just doesn't sit right with me anymore (Lady Gaga not being up is a good example). Not a bad set of nominations though, Bicep getting 3 is quite a surprise but a great one, I really enjoyed their album.
