I love Applause but it came and went too quickly and, outside of the chorus, had all the Gaga quirks that the locals were tired of. I think Do What U Want, Sexxx Dreams, and Gypsy were all more accessible — in whatever order.

ARTPOP should have been the promo single — rather than Dope. If she was really feeling a piano moment for the promo tour then Gypsy was right there.

Single #1: Gypsy
Single #2: Venus/Do What U Want [Dual Release]
Single #3: Sexxx Dreams (ft Rihanna)
Single #4: Aura
Single #5: Dope [uSA Release]
Single #6: Applause
Venus is terrible and would have killed her career. No. Gypsy, DWUW and Sexx Dreams with Rihanna would have been hits though.
Yup! Aura and Venus could not have been singles, ever. Venus is probably the worst thing she has ever done, too.
Gypsy is the last song on the album, so of course it doesn't get as streamed on a forgotten album!! It would have been a no.1 smash.

Are you sure the radio would play this?

Russia, UK, Paris

I'm Italian, Asia combined

Africa, India

I’m gypsy, gypsy, gypsy

I'm Latin American

I dont speak German, but I try

Some day in Jakarta, I’m American

I’m gypsy

I’m Bangkok, Australia

Malasia, Sweden

Finland, Norway

Be my home just for the day

I’m a gypsy, gypsy, gypsy, hey

I would have still released applause first, I wasn’t the biggest fan when it was released but listening back it was clearly the strongest most radio friendly song. I think I would have gone:

1. Applause

2. Gypsy

- Release album with a decent cover and a better name Applause would have been a good title

3. Do what you want (with someone else, the Christina one is excellent, Madonna would probably have been great, Cher??)

4. Sexx dreams (while I like GUY and Venus neither were commercial enough to be big)

Not some of you putting Sexxx Dreams as a lead single and Applause (the only radio-friendly song on the album alongside DWUW) as the last single :deadbanana:
And Gypsy would never be played on the radio, it's just a fan favorite song, same for Heavy Metal Lover on BTW.

No. Gypsy is HUGE. Loads of songs on radio reference a bunch of countries. Let's look at top 3 UK hit and USA no.1 La La La La La by Fergie:

Thinking Russia need a visit

I'ma run it to the limit

Texas grill, Cadillacs through Miami then back

To London, Jamaica, then France

The whole damn world took effect to Ferg

Tell 'em

Get in with the business

When I come from Kansas City

Hit Manila till it's Christmas

Out to India I'll visit

So! You were saying? Applause didn't even manage top 3. Gypsy is the biggest song on ARTPOP, rivalled only by DWUW.

S1: Applause (mid-August to early September 2013)

PS1: Aura

S2: DWUW (November 2013)

PS2: Venus

S3: Gypsy (February 2014)

S4: Sexxx Dreams (June 2014) [w/ remix]

I honestly think that everything was going fine until her team scrapped Gypsy from a potential single push and waiting too long after DWUW peaked to push something else. Aura would have worked perfectly as a promo single to help push Machete Kills, and as much of a bop as G.U.Y. is, Gypsy outclassed it in every way. It was much more radio friendly and more palatable to Gaga’s more feel good style of music.

I really wanted Aura as a single the first time I heard it but looking back now I don’t think the public was ready for psy trance... I mean they still aren’t now. That song is truly ahead of its time.

Gypsy is just noise, it wouldn't play on the radio unless Gaga spent a few thousand dollars for it.

If Gypsy is "just noise" what do you consider songs such as Swine, MANiCURE, Donatella, Jewels n Drugs et al to be
