Its surprising though Madonna had a 'protegé' only about two years into her chart career but I suppose she had had lots of hits in those first two years.

there was lots of speculation at the time about an affair but both always denied it

It was number one in 8 European countries apparently so I'm not sure what went wrong for it in the UK.
