June 6, 20214 yr Author 39. YOU DON’T KNOW ME- Jax Jones featuring RAYE (53,310) No 1 in 20 weeks in 2017 As with all our 2017 entrants it was again Ed Sheeran that prevented this going any higher but it had impressive weekly sales nonetheless. It samples Booka Shade Vs MANDY’s “Body Language” and was Jax Jones second hit after hitting the top as the featured artist on Duke Dumont’s “I Got U” three years before. 0m61XkXQbvI
June 6, 20214 yr wasn't Happier a Single in the UK? loved Alex Parks, even bought the album <3 Happier was a single in the UK, yes. Quite liked that Alex Parks song although I've never heard her album.
June 7, 20214 yr the album sadly was not very good, it was the single + a few original songs + then some covers she'd done in the program
June 7, 20214 yr I really liked Maybe That's What It Takes at the time and I quite liked the album too, in the context of what it was.
June 7, 20214 yr Author 38. ONE LOVE- Blue (80,000) #3 No 1 in 20 weeks in 2002 Lead single from their second album and widely tipped to be their third No 1, “One Love” was seen as a slight underperformer when it arrived at No 3. Co-penned by the band themselves (yes even Lee Ryan) it actually sold at a comparable level to all their chart topping efforts so it’s place here shows no real sign of slacking in their fanbase. 1G5F2vpe3KA
June 7, 20214 yr Author 37. BORN THIS WAY- Lady Gaga (82,487) #3 No 1 in 20 weeks in 2011 Talking of singles underperforming (real or imagined) this has to be one of the biggies in recent times. The release strategy of putting this on sale on a Friday saw over 61,000 copies sell as the song debuted at No 3 but the following week it lead from the off only to see a 9k lead eroded first by Jessie J then Adele whose BRITS performance saw her storm to the top. uniajejuBjs
June 7, 20214 yr Author 36. GOLD FOREVER- The Wanted (82,490) #3 No 1 in 20 weeks in 2011 And just weeks after Gaga debuted with that The Wanted also arrived at No 3 with even more sales! That year’s Comic Relief single was given to the boys who had clocked up three top 20 hits already in 2010 including the chart topper “All Time Low”, this track was written by the same team as that hit, in addition to the writers penning many a chart topper for Westlife! June 7, 20214 yr Milli Vanilli- Girl You Know It’s True (92.4%) W/E 12/11/1988 1- ORINOCO FLOW (SAIL AWAY)- Enya (53,000) 2- JE NE SAIS PAS POURQUOI- Kylie Minogue (52,500) 3- STAND UP FOR YOUR LOVE RIGHTS- Yazz (50,000) 4- GIRL YOU KNOW IT’S TRUE- Milli Vanilli (49,000) Enya’s last week at No 1 was exceptionally close with three other records not far off the pace including Milli Vanilli who were of course shamed just over a year later when it was revealed they didn’t sing on their tracks. The song is a cover of a track by Numarx from the previous year and this version went to No 2 in the US. gtM-NFj6EE4 I don't totally understand this how is Milli Vanilli one of the most unlucky ones here when Kylie's outsold it? Don't know if I'm missing the premise is it acts who never had a #1?
June 7, 20214 yr Author So would Born This Way have reached #1 it were released two days later? I believe in terms of first 7 days sales it would have been no 1 yes
June 7, 20214 yr And it only took the UK 4 more years to synchronise chart weeks with the rest of the world...
June 7, 20214 yr I really dislike ‘Born this Way’ - such a drop in quality from her previous single and yes I know it’s a cliche but it was ‘Express Yourself’ rip off. Although I kind of expected Adele would take the no.1, the fact that Jessie J finished ahead was kind of shocking.
June 8, 20214 yr Author 35. HOW LONG WILL I LOVE YOU- Ellie Goulding (82,872) #3 No 1 in 20 weeks in 2013 Children In Need single for the year, Goulding’s version of the Waterboys 1990 release gave a new lease of life to the re-issued “Halcyon Days” which finally topped the charts in January 2014 on the impetus. 2FlgVN03fNM
June 8, 20214 yr Author 34.SMOOTH CRIMINAL- Alien Ant Farm (83,000) #3 No 1 in 20 weeks in 2001 Covering a Michael Jackson song is always a risky business but somehow this works, with a helping hand from getting featured in the “American Pie 2” movie. Up against Kylie’s “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head” and DJ Otzi’s “Hey Baby” relegated it to third place. EvNdtnb6Zl0
June 8, 20214 yr Author 33.MOVE- Little Mix (83,070) #3 No 1 in 20 weeks in 2013 Launching that difficult second album is always difficult and for an X Factor winning act it’s all done in a blaze of publicity which has seen many of them crash and burn. Not so Little Mix who navigated the whole thing with this lead single which shifted enough to easy top the charts in 20 weeks that year. hsF8r8n_xAs
June 8, 20214 yr 'Move' REALLY should've been a number one! Also still annoyed at how Ed Sheeran decided to release two songs and block Jax Jones, which would've been an excellent number one. :(
June 8, 20214 yr 'Move' REALLY should've been a number one! Also still annoyed at how Ed Sheeran decided to release two songs and block Jax Jones, which would've been an excellent number one. :( Move's peak was certainly the record label's bad for not pushing the release a week forward, it would've likely been #1 if it did. 9/11/13 1. Eminem ft Rihanna [74,674] 2. Lorde [59,903] 3. Fatboy Slim & Riva Starr [55,743] 16/11/13 1. Storm Queen [105,559] 2. Eminem ft Rihanna [96,095] 3. Little Mix [83,070] Martin Garrix was #1 the following week with 105,767 - what an intense chart battle it would've been had he gone head to head with Storm Queen. :o And indeed Ed Sheeran cockblocking Jax Jones was a huge shame. -_-
