Out Of Your Mind by Victoria Beckham. It should have been a two week no.1, but the press conspired with Spiller to stop her :(

It's amazing how many copies of Groovejet the press bought that week.

wow Shania! she really deserved the #1 but at least she got there in albums

'That Don't Impress Me Much' was REALLY unlucky, I think in another week it very narrowly missed out on being #2 behind The Wiseguys too.

Wasn't her other #3 'Man! I Feel Like a Woman' also quite unlucky?

The last 2 songs could well be contenders for the best and worst songs in this entire thread respectively. x

I think Girls Aloud have more songs I like than not but their list of #1s does not really reflect that outside of 'Sound Of The Undergroud' - 'Call The Shots' is easily my favourite song from them and up there with my favourite pop songs of all time, I wish it had been a #1 even if one with pitiful sales.

I'd agree that most of Girls Aloud's best songs missed out on #1 and I prefer most of them to their actual #1s.

I feel the same about Kylie in that respect actually.

'Call The Shots' such a shame that it missed out on #1 although its longevity was much better than they were typically used to, at least.

'Gimme More' also *.*

Call The Shots is great, deserved better but it had to settle with two weeks at #3 behind the same two songs (the last two weeks of Bleeding Love's reign as well), wow at the gap only being 300 behind Heartbroken, would have been nice if they swapped positions on one of those weeks.

As for the Girls Aloud #1s conversation, aside from the two charity covers I certainly prefer their other two #1s to any of their #2s, Sound of the Underground and The Promise are two of my faves from them!

The Promise, Call The Shots and Biology are the best Girls Aloud songs.
Gimme More is classic and a current TikTok hit which is just CORRECT

We're using the terms 'current' and/or 'hit' very loosely here x

Biology is probably my favourite Girls Aloud single, it's a wonderfully crafted pop song with all it's different sections.

01. Sexy! No No No...

02. Biology

03. Something Kinda Ooooh

04. Call The Shots

05. Wake Me Up

My top GA favourites. None of those are #1s but 'Sound of the Underground' isn't too far behind.

Perfect demonstration of how sales were at such a high in the late 90s and such a nadir in the mid 00s.

Shania deserved #1 that week tbh, especially above Boyzone with yet another dreary MOR 70s cover.

And also how the charts could be manipulated with held back releases!!

Great thread. Is it possible to list the no. 1 and 2 that week for all of these songs, please, as will remember the "era" a lot more. You have done it for some and not all. Thanks!

I listed it for the first part of the thread as it was relevant because the tracks were near being No 1 on that particular week. That isn't the case (necessarily) for the second part of the thread as what is important is the number of weeks it would have been No 1 in the year of release. :D I wrote the thread some time ago but if others want to add the top 2 of the time then that's fine.

It just blows my mind that in 1999 a sale of 109,000 could *only* get you #1 in 11 weeks of the year, so the other 41 weeks the #1 sold *more* than 109k. An amazing sales climate for sure.

To think Geri and her team didnt have a cd2!!

She would have 5 No 1 singles.
