I found ‘5,6,7,8’ okish at the time and I really enjoyed ‘Last thing on my mind’. Then ‘One for sorrow’ got released and they got a fan in me. This glorious piece of pop got me hooked and as soon the single was released here I rushed to the store to buy it. Then played it over and over again.

And...remained a fan ever since!

How about you?

One for sorrow first caught my attention but it was Tragedy that hooked me in! I rushed to buy Step One after that and loved every track. 5,6,7,8 and Last thing on my mind totally passed me by until the album.

For me I remember liking 5, 6, 7, 8 but never buying it. I rarely bought cds then, though it was when I just started getting into music.

I have Last Thing On My Mind but can’t remember buying it. I do however distinctly remember buying One For Sorrow from my local Target. I remember being annoyed it was in album style case and not a single style case. Anyway I was hooked from then.

Only after they reunited tbh.

As a kid I thought they were ok but too cheesy for me. As an adult though I appreciate what they were doing with the disco vibes. I also have a lot more respect for them as adults, when they were younger they gave off major messy vibes.

It was One For Sorrow for me and then I was obsessed with Heartbeat (remember buying the double aside on cassette when I was 12)
It was One For Sorrow for me as well, I remember seeing it on the music channels and I had to buy the single in stores. I remember also buying Better Best Forgotten and their Abba tribute performance song, but after that they kind of disappeared over here and it wasn't until Scared Of The Dark that I remembered them and became the fan I am today.

Exactly this for me!

I remember always liking Steps, although I thought '5',6'7'8' was cringey (and still do, to some extent.) 'After The Love Has Gone' was my favourite song ever at the end of the 90s according to my cute little notes from the time (I was v young), so by that point, I was a full fan.
Last Thing On My Mind confirmed Steps had a future and I bought into them and became a fan although at that point a Steps album was uncertain.

One for Sorrow is when I started paying them more attention! I think it's probably at this point that I started seeing them more on TV and in magazines. I didn't buy the single with my pocket money though, so I suppose I wasn't majorly into them even though I liked them. By Christmas time, after the release of Heartbeat/Tragedy, I must have started feeling like more of a fan because I asked for the Step One album for Christmas! Then I bought the Heartbeat/Tragedy single at the beginning of January 1999. I definitely became completely obsessed with them in 1999!

Prior to One for Sorrow - I would have heard 5,6,7,8 at the time it was a hit, but I don't think I particularly cared for it and at that point I probably didn't see the video or see much coverage of them in the kids magazines I read. Similarly I was aware of Last Thing on My Mind being in the charts, but I wasn't hooked in yet.

I honestly was obsessed from Last Thing On My Mind. Of course I found 5,6,7,8 and being the gay teenybopper I was, at the time I loved that as well but it wasn't the track to make me a fan of the band.

I was a fan since childhood and enjoyed hearing them on the radio, playing Steps songs on dance mats at arcades and hearing their songs at school discos.

I then listened to them throughout the noughties.

Me and my friends userd to pretend we were doing shows at Butlins to the Gold CD music.

I was very excited when they had their reunion TV show and I loved Light Up The World (the single) and I espeically love their latter two albums.

Even after the split i still listened to Gold alot as i still oved the songs, Step one was mainly their studio i listened to in those years aswell, i never once thought they would ever get back together if im been honest so when they did it was a complete surprise.
