Var has been so much more consistent already in this, it doesn’t stop every 10 seconds like in England. It actually gets used properly!

So true. It was also used very well in the World Cup despite it being very new at the time. Just goes to show what shit officials we have in the PL.

Cue there being a massive England VAR controversy in Friday's match now.

The highlight of that match was the Greenpeace parachutist gate crashing it

Not wrong

The game was actually a little more open than I envisaged which I guess is because both teams can't just necessarily rely on beating Hungary to advance.

I totally agree about VAR, the tool itself is fine but the way our refs use it is ridiculous. They could really learn a lot from how UEFA use it as it's the same in the Champions League too.
At major tournaments and in the Champions League only the very best referees are used from elite lists. It's not used particularly differently, it's just not a surprise that both the on field ref and the video ref make fewer mistakes. In a domestic league you need the 30 or so best from that country to have a ref and a VAR at each game. It doesn't really work any better elsewhere than in England, other domestic leagues it's not really any different to the Premier League, the Europa League had far more complaints and dodgy decisions than the Champions League, but UEFA don't use it any differently in their own competitions, one has better refs. I've quite enjoyed not seeing the lines as they're drawn for offsides either (which is a broadcasting decision, not a VAR one)
Clive has been a joy to listen to - shame on ITV for demoting him.

I think he's still awful. Thankfully, if he goes on for a few more years then his screeches will be high-pitched enough for me not to be able to hear them.

U.S. broadcasts get Jon Champion/Taylor Twellman or Ian Darke/Stewart Robson for most our matches on ESPN. I think we're blessed.

He loves mentioning the big players and he annoys me as he can’t hold back his love for United!

Clive is largely fine but John Champion/Ally McCoist from the last World Cup was definitely the winning combination.

Class, some great stories 😁

Should be a comfortable win for France this afternoon, Portugal and Germany could be a draw.
Portugal and Germany could be a draw.

I think Germany will push for a win, they need the points. I still think Portugal are weak, when you take Ronaldo out of the equation.

Hungary!!!
Superb goal from Hungary, after all the dominance of the French in the first half.
Why what’d he do?

Oh my at Hungary of the world champions!

His comments about the response of the crowd made it sound like he was surprised by it.

I feel for Hungary I would have liked them to take the three points because France certainly don’t deserve to be top of the group they did nothing against German to deserve the three points. Poor Hummels and his dodgy clearance. They are really poor for a supposed favourite
Great result for Hungary! France have not looked like a team that will win the tournament, they needed an own goal to beat Germany and can't even beat Hungary. It was an unfortunate missed clearance from one of Hungary's defenders that led to Griezmann's goal.
I personally thought they were very impressive against the Die Manschaft and looked like they didn’t need to get out of second gear, poor today though! Was a hot day in Budapest though!

Only 28 in Budapest. 31 in Munich for GERvPOR

They were so bad against Germany. They looked like no threat whatsoever. Both of their goals are from fumbled clearances, thats not even a performance that deserves to qualify from the group stages never mind allegedly win.

Germany starting off HEAPS better, even with a ropey VAR call (doesn't look like Gnabbry got a toe to that at all)

Didn't watch the France game but Hungary are not wipping boys so I'm not surprised they managed to take a point. They were unlucky against Portugal too. They're a bit like England in that they have so many good individual players, but never really been that impressed by the manager. I know they won the World Cup but they were bloody terrible.

He didn't get a toe to it, but he made an attempt to get the ball, so it counts as interfering with play.
