Not to be cynical but like. It makes sense to me that she would fan the flames of controversy to get as many views as possible on release week to get a high debut.

When every video play counts as a stream/sale, it's an optimal strategy.

Besides that, I've realised what had been throwing me about the video - that's very obviously an American or at least American-style neighbourhood, right? Literally nothing about that video gives any hint that she's a UK act apart from Nicki's opening bar.

She’s wearing the bikini which represents the UK, you might have missed it :)

Absolutely nobody:

Me every five minutes: ITS THE U.K. BADDIE AND THE BARBIE 🤪🤪

This has grown so much over the day, certified BOP.

This is basically her 'Swagger Jagger' isn't it? As in, ripped to shreds online but will still be a hit (and her career will probably follow a similar trajectory)

It really is such a bop! I was soo caught off guard at the beginning with Jesy’s first part!

I’m shocked how much I loved the song instantly!

I do think it is definitely a you either love it or hate it song.

She’s #8 on Apple Music UK in less than 24 hours which is a bit insane to be honest.

The song and video itself are just embarrassing, offensive and very very cliche. Like, how ignorant can a person be? Not just Jesy but also her fans, including this topic, defending her??? I mean, I hate all the bullying she has been through and feel pretty bad to diss her online, but at the same time that is not an excuse to show such problematic behaviour. And don't even get me started on all her Nicki love in the interviews, what is wrong with her

Not surprised this is taking off though. The gp doesn't care at all about blackfishing and the white gheys will lap it up.

One of the strangest samples I've heard never thought I would see an ode to P Diddy's 'Bad Boy For Life'. I'm really not sure what to think of the song.

I'd never actually heard the original before and ended up adding that to my playlist instead. I knew Jezy had sampled it but I thought it was just a subtle thing or a hook for the chorus or whatever - I was a bit shocked when I heard that it's basically the entire melody/production/instrumental.

I'd say this is a pretty good prediction.

Having more, bigger selling hits and even briefly making it in America with a couple of big hits?

I don't think.

This is not what I was expecting. I wanted better. It's growing on me but I think the whole package is pretty underwhelming.

Fizzling out within the space of 3 singles.

Ok it’s such a bad song but I actually Like it now (Who would have thought) it reminds me of Cher Lloyd swagger Jagger for sure!

Tries to be cool but is just cringe - Here for it.

I think MNEK / Little Mix girls should stay away from the blackfishing stuff whilst they have every right commenting or liking things everyone knows about it and it’s drama they really don’t need to be involved with.

Especially when it’s being done in such a shady way, if they want to go there then they should just address it and call her out on it rather than these bitchy comments or likes. I really don’t like that.

I agree with this. Jesy is definitely in the wrong but MNEK is insufferable with his pointed passive aggressive digs at her. It's not cute, it's not 'shade teehee', it's just plain f***ing annoying.

Most black people who understand blackfishing would be angered by Jesy's behaviour. But someone like Leigh-Anne is in a kind of difficult situation. I mean, she called her own fiance out in her documentary, and did express her dissatisfaction with Camilla Cabello, even though she didn't quite mention her name. One thing I can tell about the Little Mix girls is that they seem to not like controversy or drama. They tried to wriggle themselves out during the Nicki/Cardi B drama of 2018. So calling out Jesy publicly and squarely would just light up the Internet to a super degree, and I'm not sure Leigh-Anne would like that. But again, she must be boiling about the whole thing, so there has to be an outlet - even if it is just liking a post.

As for M-NEK, I think he's within his rights. Blackfishing is offensive, and I guess different people would handle it different ways - especially when Jesy is proving unteachable or even non-chalant. Would calling her out fully be better? People would still be uncomfortable and perhaps accuse him of choosing the day she's releasing her debut to call her out.
