September 3, 20213 yr As long as there is no Adele album the same week, Abba will topple Ed Sheeran after just one week. However, I suspect Sheeran will reclaim the top spot the following week. Abba will sell more copies as Christmas presents so they may return to number one in December. An Adele release will throw a spanner in the works. If Adele is likely to sell similar numbers regardless of Christmas, perhaps she will wait until the new year and be number one from January until Easter. Would love to see an early 2022 release for Adele - perk up the early year album slump!
September 3, 20213 yr So is Adele ACTUALLY releasing or is this BJ just saying if? It looks like the source of these latest rumours is this news article (and an unverified Adele info Twitter account with ~8,000 followers lol) but even that says "Adele’s record could be put back a fortnight to avoid a direct clash with Abba". Unless Google is failing me I can't find any more direct source that says anything about an Adele release date. I really cannot imagine Adele would actually release on the same week as ABBA, even if she was scheduled to release on 5 November they'll surely change it now.
September 4, 20213 yr I assume the Christmas song will only get airplay and won’t be a hit! Abba have a song on the Christmas comps but it’s a new year hit I guess so doesn’t count!
September 4, 20213 yr I'd assume Ed and Abba will have the top 2 sewn up for pretty much the rest of Q4 unless Adele drops her album.
September 5, 20213 yr Okay, Sony have said that Adele "plans to release AROUND 5th November. She'd easily beat Abba.
September 6, 20213 yr Abba now reportedly have 80k pre-orders, anyone still think Ed will have them beat?
September 6, 20213 yr I'm still not certain but if these pre-orders are accurate then yeah I think ABBA have to be the favourites now. Okay, Sony have said that Adele "plans to release AROUND 5th November. She'd easily beat Abba. [citation needed]
September 6, 20213 yr Abba now reportedly have 80k pre-orders, anyone still think Ed will have them beat? Not on second week sales. I really hope Adele does release 5th November. That would be the most covered album chart battle in years, surely.
September 6, 20213 yr I actually think ABBAs first week sales may be around Ed’s possibly even more perhaps? I may be overestimating them but if that 80K figure is correct that’ll only increase, a lot of their fanbase won’t really be pre ordering either and will be picking up the physical CD. And I’m pretty sure I think there’ll be heavy coverage across the media maybe even TV specials across release week. They’ll definitely beat his second week. Wouldn’t even be shocked if they beat his first week sales. This is a gigantic and historic reunion for an act that has multi generational appeal. Edited September 6, 20213 yr by Jord
September 6, 20213 yr I'm certain that ABBA are coming for an insane first week sale that will definitely beat Ed's second week numbers. It would be nice if Adele released the week after so you could have three huge selling #1s in a row.
September 6, 20213 yr As I’ve said already the record industry are salivating at this Q4 lineup it could save the album chart!
