Last year may have been unusually big for Christmas too due to Covid and everyone willing something nice to happen and for the end of such an awful year. I think I started listening to them around this time in 2020, but I don't really have any appetite to hear them right now.

 

It wouldn't surprise me if Christmas songs aren't *quite* as dominating as they were last year. They'll still be absolutely huge, especially in December, but I wouldn't be surprised if they take a little longer to get going properly.

Also the Christmas songs are looking less likely to dominate the very top of the chart due to the competition. Last year we had Positions limping to six weeks at #1 with 40k per week and then being knocked off by Mariah also on 40k odd. By contrast this week we’re likely to get a whole Top 5 over 50k.

We'll still get the usual total domination on post-/Christmas week but hopefully looks like the total domination throughout the entirety of December (see my analysis below) was just a one-off thing for last year and we'll be back to normal now.

Adele's lead has expanded again today to 92k - not that this really matters any more as her early CD release is probably ending any chance of this being an actual contest for #1 this week :lol:

 

She is back to #1 on US Spotify today too after falling behind Lil Nas X for the past two days so seems to have been a good day for her in general.

Looks like Adele is bouncing back well now Halloween is over.

 

I think releasing the tracklist of her album yesterday may have also helped a little.

 

Ed's album tracks are holding up very well! They're almost all top 50 with "Be Right Now" at #51. Will likely be quite a consistent seller over the next year I feel.
