I’m going late morning tomorrow and I’m torn between staying up til midnight for the soundtrack (or is it a 5am release ie midnight US time, I feel like it will) and waiting to hear the songs for the first time in the movie, I think i will end up hammering it on the way there anyway

Yeah I think the soundtrack will probably be a 5am release time for the U.K. unfortunately! I don't think I will have enough patience to hold off until seeing the film - so will likely check out the soundtrack as I'm getting ready for work in the morning, spam it where I can elsewhere in the day and then see the film on Saturday. Bring it on 🩷💚

Some more interviews:

The marketing budget for this film has been insane - almost Barbie levels of omnipresent for me on social media and there is so much merch out there as well!

Unnormalise 5am releases :drama:

I might try and hold off on The Wizard and I which is my other fave after Defying Gravity (except my ultimate fave No Good Deed which isn’t until part 2), so I’ve got one song as a surprise, especially as it feels like we’ve heard less of it than Defying Gravity or Popular, but I don’t think I can hold off listening to Defying Gravity

It’s out thank GOD, I had to stay up and see and now I can’t resist

Oh apologies, I was lied to when coming across a Reddit thread that mentioned a timezone for the soundtrack that translated to 5am in the U.K.

OMG then :w00t: the temptation to stay up and listen is real but better be sensible 💔

Watched this late morning and it was absolutely everything!! The time flies by, when they initially announced it was being split into two movies I wasn’t sure it was needed, but it absolutely is. It doesn’t feel like nearly 3 hours at all, and the extra time I feel makes the friendship more impactful and gives the story even more of an emotional weight, especially with the insane chemsiry of Ari with Cynthia and Jonathan Bailey with… everyone  Everything I hoped for and more.

Just got back from watching the movie and was not disappointed - Ariana, Cynthia and Jonathan in particular were magnetic.

I had goosebumps during the final 15/20 minutes or so, that was CINEMA.

My Cineworld was out of the Wicked cups already but did pick up a popcorn bucket!

Thrilled for everyone involved that this has been such a success :bratcheeseblock:

"Musical" has felt like a dirty word in film lately (probably post-Cats...), with trailers trying to conceal musical elements, but this film really celebrates this aspect and so it should, the talent!!

Went to see this today, was utterly blown away! Cinematically so BEAUTIFUL to watch and that last 15 /20 mins left me breathless!

Ariana is amazing in it, huge bravo to all the cast!

Number 1 in the US & the UK....

A record breaker as it's the biggest opening for a Musical Adaptation EVER in both countries I believe! It beats 'Les Mis' in the UK which opened to £8,127,991.

$114m in the US

£13,696,056 in the UK

UK stats:

- Biggest opening in the UK since 'Barbie' last Summer!

- 3rd biggest for any musical ever (behind 'Beauty and The Beast (2017) £19,700,000 and 'Frozen II' (2019) £15,088,012)

- 3rd biggest opening for a PG certificate (behind the aforemention BATB and 'The Lion King' (2019) £16,671,764)

MORE INFO IN THIS THREAD HERE (please show Lewis some love! He does this every week and I'd love for people to interact more as and when they can :P)

I'm going to see it on Saturday morning, I'm very excited! It'll be the first time I've been to the cinema since 2021 :drama: (House of Gucci). The 'Rain on Me' chanteuses bringing me to the cinema!
Im seeing it for a second time on Saturday can’t wait to watch again, it’s brilliant

Hope you both had fun seeing it (either first or second time) today :cheer:

What a truly fantastic film! One of the best I've seen in a very long time.

I didn't actually know too much about Wicked's plot before viewing, neither was I particularly familiar with the songs outside of Defying Gravity... and both aspects of the film are amazing. Despite its run time, there wasn't any point that I felt restless.

What an extraordinary voice Cynthia Erivo has, and an incredible actress too! Ariana was incredibly strong too, which shouldn't be a surprise but nevertheless she excelled even beyond what I already knew she was capable of. It wasn't long into the movie that I stopped seeing her as Ariana Grande and fully saw her as Glinda. I hope both get *all* the awards for this!

The scene of them at the Ozdust Ballroom party was incredibly moving  I think that was my favourite part of the film bar the closing scene with Defying Gravity which was so spectacular.

Thanks to Thanksgiving box office 'Moana 2' and 'Wicked' (+ others xx - but them two did the heavy lifting) carried Box Office to an ALL TIME Thanksgiving high!

'Wicked' increased by 2.6%. It's extremely rare that a movie increases in its 2nd weekend, especially after it debuted to high numbers too. Yes it was helped by a 5-day Thanksgiving holiday, but I *think* had 'Moana 2' not released this week, it would have been the 2nd biggest total for a Thanksgiving weekend after 'Frozen II' 2nd week pulled in $124m in 2019... (and presumably removing M2 would mean that 'Wicked' could have potentially even BEATEN F2 (it just depends how much 'Moana 2' and 'Wicked' audiences eat into each other)).
