Whereas this is the lowest placed of FGTH’s three No 1’s, it’s video of Reagan and Chernecko lookalikes fighting helped it enter at No 1 where it stayed for 9 weeks- the longest run in the decade. This is King Rollo’s favourite chart topper of the 80s.

They are the last of the big four to leave the rate but it’s farewell to Duran Duran as this exits. Remixed by Nile Rogers for the single it spent a month at the top.

Glad ‘Karma Chameleon’ didn’t go top 10 like I thought it would it’s been overplayed for me. ‘The Reflex’ performance was one of my favourites of the 80s on TOTP!

Do love all 3 of FGTHs no1s but could find space for this!

My first double casualty in one of these three song reveals! 'Karma Chameleon' is a pop classic, definitely expected that to be higher :o on the other hand I expected lower for 'The Reflex' so pleasantly surprised there, it hasn't really been as enduring as the likes of 'Hungry Like The Wolf' and 'Rio' in public consciousness.

It makes more sense than the real lyric though. What on earth was she doing in Glasgow?

Not doing much more than eating, sleeping and singing, by all accounts!

Two good tracks gone there.

The Reflex is Duran's better No.1

Two Tribes just confirmed FGTH as an absolute juggernaut of the time.

Karma C... I'd be happy never to listen to again. Hugely overplayed.

The Reflex and Two Tribes are both amazing *.*

I used to love Karma Chameleon as a child but I don't think it's aged well at all sadly

LOVE The Reflex, i'd agree that its probably not as well remembered by the public at large as some of their other hits but I still think its up there with their best. Karma Chameleon is a great track too. Honestly i'm not that massive on Two Tribes, it's a decent enough song and I do like it but that's as far as i'd go- I much prefer their other two #1s!

Good riddance don't like any of those 3 :D

Reflex is good and Two Tribes is amazingly energetic, the mixing of stadium rock and dance beats in Two Tribes sounds like it may have influenced the KLF in the early 90s I think!

Always loved this TOTP performance while it was number one!

"Back To Life", "Pump Up The Volume", "Ride On Time" didn't deserve even 1 point.

3 songs at the forefront of their genre

Yep - that driving bass and maximalism of the production.

I have, until this day, never appreciated what this must have sounded like back then. :o

loved Karma Chameleon at the time, these days prefer most of their other singles and some album tracks from 82-84. The Reflex sounds even better than it did at the time, behind only Wild Boys for me of their 80's stuff. Two Tribes is the lesser of the trio of anthems, so thats fine and about right.

Incredibly their only No 1 for all their hits in the 80s with some help from Stevie Wonder on Harmonica. This is the third most popular chart topper of 1985 as the year becomes the first to have just 2 entries left.

Taken back to the top by Atomic Kitten in 2001, this was the only No 1 for the group who got their break when Prince gave them “Manic Monday” because he was attracted to frontwoman Susanna Hoffs. The flame mentioned was inspired by the tribute outside Graceland for Elvis. The first track to attract 9 voters!

A cover of the Isley Jasper Isley 1985 single turned into an acapella track which almost stole the festive spot but lost its midweek No 1 position to Jackie Wilson.

ahh shame for Annie Ternal Flame to miss out on the top 40, one of the more lovely 80s ballads. less so the pointless AK cover from the 00s.
