December 10, 20213 yr Author it is wrong, and it has nothing to do with overtaking beatles or spice girls or artist X. not to mention that those artists did that on a much different era, where u should actually get people buy ur product, instead of a bunch of teenagers having spotify playlists on repeat while they are studing for their exams or wtvr :P Yet LadBaby has reached #1 each time on pretty much entirely sales, with minimal streams?
December 10, 20213 yr Yet LadBaby has reached #1 each time on pretty much entirely sales, with minimal streams? i dont know much of what this guy is doing and what background powers he has, but apparently the 'buy the song so u can help poor people' motto is working. Now we have the billion grossed ed sheeran also stating we are helping 4.5m children to eat... oh come on. 100k pounds income would help the kids but half a billion wouldnt...
December 10, 20213 yr My cynicism about this "record" increases as it doubles as extra exposure for the Ed/Elton Christmas song and another chance for him to replace himself at #1.
December 10, 20213 yr I refuse to get on board with this. To overtake the Beatles / Spice Girls just feels so wrong to me Maybe with Ed/Elton on it won’t just be a 1-Out chart run I was thinking the same, it might help it have a better chart run. Ladbaby has never done well here in Ireland so this might help him have a hit here.
December 10, 20213 yr It is a Christmas song, it definitely isn't going to have any more longevity than the other LadBaby songs. (Sheeran is spelt wrong in the subtitle of this thread btw lol)

(Sheeran is spelt wrong in the subtitle of this thread btw lol) No that’s how he’s credited, it’s another one of his methods of chart abuse to get more singles eligible to chart x
December 10, 20213 yr Imagine how that board meeting went...'let's try for another Christmas number 1!', 'OK, let's get Elton John and just stick every popular Christmas song into a blender and see the result', 'Hold on guys, Ladbaby may be releasing, gonna be tough and some bad PR', 'Hmmm you're right...HOLD ON, I'VE GOT IT' I could get very angry over this, but I find the meltdowns funnier x
December 10, 20213 yr This is such a brazen move I almost respect LadBaby for it. Coming for a near unbeatable record for the shortest time between an original song going to #1 and a cover of the same song also going to #1 I guess! PinkPantheress & Central Cee outdone :cheeseblock: It's happened at least twice before. Two versions of Answer Me were back to back number 1s in 1953 and two versions of Singing The Blues did the same in 1957.
December 10, 20213 yr As much as I find the sausage roll "joke" deeply unfunny and LadBaby extremely cringeworthy... I have to take my hat off to them for this

December 10, 20213 yr I dont get the hatred behind this. Surely will sound better than the other Lad Baby songs (well couldn't sound worse tbh!). And surely earn more for charity, a good cause especially when considering the evil Tory government forcing more onto food banks. Maybe people should get angry with them instead - I know I am! And Sam Smith kind of did this before with two versions of "Lay Me Down" charting separately- solo and with John Legend. Edited December 10, 20213 yr by Smint
December 10, 20213 yr It's happened at least twice before. Two versions of Answer Me were back to back number 1s in 1953 and two versions of Singing The Blues did the same in 1957. I did think of those but I wasn't really considering them because they kind of predate the concept of songs having 'original versions', as I understand it it was normal at that time for popular songs to be released by several different artists around the same time rather than being tied to any particular artist (so you could say that all 4 of those #1s were 'covers'). I guess they will still hold the joint unbeatable record for the gap between 2 versions of the same song reaching #1 though as both were only one week apart. Not sure what the previous record would be excluding those 50s oddities - may be 'Wake Me Up' having a 16 month gap between the Avicii original and the Gareth Malone's All Star Choir cover? No that’s how he’s credited, it’s another one of his methods of chart abuse to get more singles eligible to chart x Harry Stiles teas
December 10, 20213 yr Even though I didn't like any of his songs, I appreciated that LadBaby is just a regular guy who wanted to raise money for charity. Seeing Elton and Ed talking about how we can make a change by buying the song while they could just easily donate the money feels wrong to me
December 11, 20213 yr It won't happen but wouldn't it be hilarious if against all expectations, the LadBaby version didn't get to #1 and ended up getting cockblocked by the original version it was copying. There would be some egg on the face of whoever came up with this joint concept then.

December 12, 20213 yr They will only EQUAL the Beatles record. They need 5 to overtake their 4 Xmas No.1's. No they will beat them for consecutive Xmas #1s and of course they will go for 5 next year.
