I just fear it will go back to #1 next December because it could get a reset been less than three years old and the public appetite for absolutely anything with Sheeran's name slapped on it refuses to end.

I suspect the majority of the Spotify team have taken Christmas off (and rightly so) and playlist updates will happen from tomorrow

The last Heat Waves reset was automatic, because it gained a lot of traction quickly. It'd need a manual one at this current point and it's supposed to be songs that labels are intending to promote further, so not sure Heat Waves could qualify but it could well happen.
I thought a song could theoretically be automatically reset any amount of times if it increased streams enough until it reached the 3 year threshold. Is that wrong?
There's no limit as far as we know. Sunflower got automatically reset three times, and Train Wreck got two manual resets, so Heat Waves being allowed one after only one previous automatic reset is possible - although I think it's unlikely.

There was a TikTok on my For You Page yesterday with lyrics from this exact song highlighted on top of a photo montage, I think they were:

so I presume it's that part catching on! It really stood out to me as I knew it from being a retro U.K. #1 and thought how random :lol:

yes it's cos of Tiktok

 

Ah fair enough! Usually the YouTube comments for things like those are filled with 'came from TikTok' etc, but it doesn't seem to be the case for that one's video yet :lol:
