This from the recent FIFA Women's World Cup qualifiers from the latest two matches of qualifying:

Republic of Ireland 11-0 Georgia

Spain 12-0 Faroe Islands

Spain 8-0 Scotland

North Macedonia 0-11 Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland 9-0 North Macedonia

Luxembourg 0-8 Austria

Belgium 19-0 Armenia

Albania 0-7 Norway

Armenia 0-10 Norway

Lithunia 0-7 Switzerland

Germany 8-0 Turkey

Slovenia 6-0 Estonia

France 6-0 Kazakhstan

I know that some countries have a much more developed women's game than others, but I am not sure how it helps the growth of women's football in Latvia to be thumped by 20 goals in a game or to concede 46 in 5 games.

What do you think?

Yeah it's not ideal - pre-qualifying could sort it but I always think it's nice to see everyone get an equal chance (although maybe there's an exception when double-digit winnning victories become the norm)

Isn't it the flip side of this that Latvia hosting England means increased ticket sales which bring more funding in to their respective FA?

I agree that for the players it's demoralising but there has to be an upside somewhere.

The gulf in the women's game is even greater than the men's between the bigger nations, you can't tell me winning 19 or 20 nil is a competitive football match. Don't know what the answer is, possibly pre-qualifying. Maybe it is also one of those things that is going to take 10 years to sort out as the women's game gets bigger.
Quite a lot of countries fielding statues then!

If they lined several of the statues up between the posts, their results might improve

Couldn't find a more suitable thread. Spare a thought for New Zealand defender Meikayla Moore who scored a hat-trick of own goals in a 5-0 defeat against USA, she also got substituted before half-time. Two of those own goals came in the first six minutes of the match. This surely must be the worst day at the office for a footballer ever
Only thing that sprang to mind to rival that was Jon Walters scoring 2 own goals and missing a penalty in a match for Stoke vs Chelsea.
I don't know why pre-qualifying rounds were cancelled in this competition. They worked well in the past.
