Gorillaz – 19/2000

#6, 2001

The cartoon band feature in the quiz once more with their very fun second hit from 2001. I remember they played a much more upbeat remix of this on the radio at the time but I definitely prefer the original.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience – All Along The Watchtower

#5, 1968

I seem to have managed to shoehorn some epic guitar playing into this quiz! This was actually a Dylan cover. I didn’t mark down for missing the “experience” bit.

XXXtentacion – Sad!

#5, 2018

Well if XXXtentacion were still with us he might indeed be a bit sad that only 5 of you managed to identify his signature (posthumously peaking) song! I grant that this turned out to be a really tough one which I only properly realised when I listened back to my track. I gave a couple of extra seconds in the final version but it was still tough! It’s actually a really lovely track if you aren’t familiar.

Many of you thought this would be the least guessed, and it certainly is so far…

Chumbawumba - Tubthumping

#2, 1997

Now as Dandy pointed out I was unintentionally a bit naughty with this one as the Spotify intro apparently only appeared on the album version (and isn’t on this Youtube version either), so sorry about that! Nonetheless it was not the least guessed as some thought it would be, and a good number of you somehow managed to get it!

'SAD!' was the last one I got! I was kicking myself for ages because it seemed so familiar and then finally out of nowhere it hit, yessss

I approved of the multiple Gorillaz appearances

I got really familiar with the album version of 'Tubthumping' as it's the one in my favourite top 40 singles (1997 onwards) playlist (yes I need to finish that countdown) so that was lucky!

Aaliyah ft Timbaland – We Need A Resolution

#20, 2001

I actually thought this was one of the least well guessed ones, after I decided to go for this one instead of the more famous “More Than A Woman” or “Try Again”. Hence I included a bit of Timbaland mumbling which I thought might steer people in the right direction! Actually much more of you got it than I expected, though I was harsh and deducted a point for not mentioning Timbaland (especially as he’s right there on the intro).

I made sure to read the requirements of this quiz thoroughly after my comprehension skills flopped a bit in the last one, so I'm glad I put the feature :P Aaliyah

Think I've only heard 'SAD!' once or twice. I did think about checking some of his intros from Spotify but never got around to it -_-

I was sure I'd heard that version of the Tubthumping intro before but couldn't think where!

Freddie Mercury – Living on my own

#1, 1993

What an absolute corker of a song, though it wasn’t even a proper hit until after his death. Some of you recognised the voice but not the song and guessed “Queen”, for which I gave 1 point.

Panic! At The Disco – I Write Sins Not Tragedies

#25, 2006

Apparently this single was not originally chart eligible as it had been released with a free sticker (!) but then was re-released due to its popularity. It’s certainly become much more renowned than its peak suggests, and most of you knew it.

John Lennon - Woman

#1, 1981

This was the last in a triple bill of Lennon #1s following his death. I love John Lennon and the Beatles but I have to say for me this is a pretty dull track, but a nice intro!

Oh I just thought it was the dodgy sound quality that meant Bohemian Rhapsody didn’t sound like normal

Yeah Bo Rap didn't sound normal to me either but I wasn't sure whether it was the sound quality or a red herring to throw us off the trail... then I actually figured Julian wouldn't be so cruel to us so I settled for the dodgy sound quality theory  that'll teach me!

Happy with how I'm doing other than that though.

I realise I'd messed up some of the YouTube links so they should be working now!

Many apologies to unconventionally leave this on a cliff-hanger but I'm now going to have to pause the results until tomorrow. :o

Pleased how well I'm doing - putting a completely random guess of Ke$ha for #4 and it turning out to actually be her was a bonus! Kicking myself a bit for the 2Pac one, not many others. I know Tubthumping the single inside out but have never heard the album version!

So far so good minus the Timbaland feature - harsh host!!

Though I should have read the rules in full.... I failed for a 2nd week in a row unlike Jade!

No complaints so far, happy to get half scores on a handful of my wild guesses. That said I can't believe I didn't recognize 19/2000 and really didn't recognize Tubthumping! And I'm sad my Muppets guess for Bohemian Rhapsody was wrong :P
ugh if only I’d doubled checked the Bo Rap cover, I was sure it was Il Divo cos I completely forgot G4 existed.

#12 really sounded to me like greg lake i believe in father christmas, thought there'd be a christmas song in this!

#14 also really really sounds like derek and the dominoes - layla

i fell for the #10 red herring oops
